Objective: The diagnostic criteria of lymphatic vascular invasion have not been standardized. Our investigation assesses the factors associated with lymphatic vascular invasion positive tumors and the impact of lymphatic vascular invasion on overall survival for patients with non-small cell lung cancer undergoing (bi)lobectomy with an adequate node dissection.

Methods: The National Cancer Database was queried from the years 2010 to 2015 to find surgical patients who underwent lobectomy with at least 10 lymph nodes examined (adequate node dissection) and with known lymphatic vascular invasion status.

Cardiotoxicity is a well-known pathophysiological consequence in breast cancer patients receiving trastuzumab. Trastuzumab related cardiotoxicity typically results in an overall decline in cardiac function, primarily characterized by reduction in left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and development of symptoms associated with heart failure. Current strategies for the monitoring of cardiac function, during trastuzumab therapy, includes serial echocardiography, which is cost ineffective as well as offers limited specificity, while offering limited potential in monitoring early onset of cardiotoxicity.

ECOG-ACRIN EA5181 is a current prospective, randomized trial that is investigating whether the addition of concomitant durvalumab to standard chemo/radiation followed by 1 year of consolidative durvalumab results in an overall survival benefit over standard chemo/radiation alone followed by 1 year of consolidative durvalumab in patients with locally advanced, unresectable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Because multiple phase I/II trials have shown the relative safety of adding immunotherapy to chemo/radiation and due to the known synergism between chemotherapy and immunotherapy, it is hoped that concomitant durvalumab can reduce the relatively high incidence of local failure (38%-46%) as seen in recent prospective, randomized trials of standard chemo/radiation in this patient population. We will review the history of radiation for LA-NSCLC and discuss the role of induction, concurrent and consolidative chemotherapy as well as the concerns for late cardiac and pulmonary toxicities associated with treatment.

Cardiotoxic manifestation associated with breast cancer treatment by anthracycline regimen increases patients' susceptibility to myocardial injury, reduction in left ventricular ejection fraction and complications associated with heart failure. There is currently no standardized, minimally invasive, cost effective and clinically verified procedure to monitor cardiotoxicity post-anthracycline therapy initiation, and to detect early onset of irreversible cardiovascular complications. This study aims to create a panel of novel biomarkers and circulating miRNAs associated with cardiotoxicity, further assessing their correlation with cardiac injury specific markers, troponin I and T, and demonstrate the development of cardiac dysfunction in breast cancer patients.

Background: Upper gastrointestinal (UGI) malignancies including esophageal, gastroesophageal junction (GEJ), and gastric cancers have a poor prognosis in the metastatic setting. Consumption of walnuts has slowed breast cancer growth and/or reduced the risk of mammary cancer in mice. The benefit against cancer was associated with altered expression of genes for cancer growth and survival. We hypothesized that walnut consumption would alter gene expression in pathologically confirmed breast cancers of women in a direction that would be expected to decrease breast cancer growth and survival, as was seen in mice.
