Targeting Aquaporin-5 by Phosphodiesterase 4 Inhibition Offers New Therapeutic Opportunities for Ovarian Ischemia Reperfusion Injury in Rats.

This study aimed to examine the effect of Phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibition on Aquaporin-5 (AQP5) and its potential cell signaling pathway in the ovarian ischemia reperfusion (OIR) model. Thirty adult female rats were divided into five groups: Group 1; Control: Sham operation, Group 2; OIR that 3 hour ischemia followed by 3 hour reperfusion, Group 3; OIR + Rolipram 1 mg/kg, Group 4; OIR + Rolipram 3 mg/kg, Group 5; OIR + Rolipram 5 mg/kg. Rolipram was administered intraperitoneally to the rats in groups 3-4 and 5 at determined doses 30 minutes before reperfusion.

Comparison of treatment methods in plastron appendicitis: a tertiary center experience.

Background: It is controversial which treatment method is superior in plastron appendicitis and the research is still going on. The aim of this study is to compare treatment methods for plastron appendicitis in the adult population with our experience.

Materials And Methods: The data of 92 patients who were diagnosed with plastron appendicitis in university hospital between 2015 and 2021 were analyzed retrospectively.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and the resulting coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) represented a global public health crisis and the most significant pandemic in modern times. Transmission characteristics, and the lack of effective antiviral treatment protocol and protective vaccines, pushed healthcare systems, particularly intensive care units (ICUs), to their limits and led to extreme quarantine measures to control the pandemic. It was evident from an early stage that patient stratification approaches needed to be developed to better predict disease progression.

Objective: We aimed to investigate sleep disorders in patients with epilepsy (PWE) and to investigate the effects of sleep disorders on quality of life.

Methods: In our multicenter study conducted in Turkey, 1358 PWE were evaluated. The demographic and clinical data of the patients were recorded.

Real-life outcomes of COVID-19 vaccination in kidney transplant patients: a single-center experience.

Introduction: In this study, it was aimed to investigate the clinical (real-life) impact of the vaccination protocol on patients undergoing kidney transplantation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methodology: A total of 260 patients who underwent kidney transplantation between June 2012 and May 2022 were retrospectively evaluated. Patients chose vaccination Sinovac-CoronaVac (CoronaVac) and/or BNT162b2 (Biontech), the first vaccine available in the country) in line with the regulations and recommendations of the Ministry of Health.

Comparison of Sacroiliitis Grade Readings on the Same Plain Radiographs by the Same Observer at Different Periods.

Background:  This study aimed to investigate whether there is a difference between the readings of plain sacroiliac radiographs of patients with sacroiliitis by the same observer.

Materials And Methods:  In the study, we included patients diagnosed with sacroiliitis through sacroiliac MRI who had undergone plain radiographs at our center between 2015 and 2022. The radiographic grading of patients was conducted by transferring their demographic and clinical information into a computerized environment so that these details would not be identifiable.

Background: Herein, we analyzed the efficacy of main antibiotic therapy regimens in the treatment of healthcare-associated meningitis (HCAM).

Materials/methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted in 18 tertiary-care academic hospitals Turkey, India, Egypt and Romania. We extracted data and outcomes of all patients with post-neurosurgical meningitis cases fulfilling the study inclusion criteria and treated with empirical therapy between December 2006-September 2018.

Predictive value of triglyceride/glucose index for cardiac outcomes in non-diabetic renal transplant recipients.

Objectives: Insulin resistance (IR) is associated with an increased risk of adverse cardiovascular outcomes. The triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index) is a reliable marker of IR. No study has examined the impact of the TyG index on major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCEs) in RTRs.

Assessment of Sleep Disturbances on Mental Health in Patients with Restless Legs Syndrome.

Background And Objective: In our study, we aimed to evaluate the sleep disturbances of patients diagnosed with restless legs syndrome (RLS) regarding their mental health according to the severity of the disease.

Materials And Methods: The study included 166 patients diagnosed with RLS and 161 healthy controls in the same age interval as patients. Sleep disturbances of patients were defined with the "personal information form" (PIF) prepared by the researchers, while the mental health status of patients was defined with the "Brief Symptom Inventory" (BSI).

Evaluation of dry eye and meibomian gland function in pregnancy.

Purpose: To evaluate the signs and symptoms of dry eye in healthy pregnant women and investigate the effect of pregnancy on meibomian gland loss using non-contact meibography.

Methods: Healthy pregnant women and age-matched healthy non-pregnant women were included in the study. Subjective symptoms were assessed using the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI).

Objective This study aimed to investigate the cytomorphological effects of heavyweight and lightweight mesh on the ilioinguinal nerve in an experimental animal model. Methods Sixteen New Zealand male rabbits were included in the study. The left inguinal regions of the first six animals were assigned as controls and the right inguinal regions were assigned as the sham group.

The association between frontal QRS-T angle and reverse dipper status in newly diagnosed hypertensive patients.

The frontal QRS-T angle (fQRS-T angle) in ECG is a new measure of myocardial repolarization, in which a higher fQRS-T angle is linked with worse cardiac outcomes. Reverse dipper hypertension is also linked to poor cardiac outcomes. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between the fQRS-T angle and reverse dipper status in individuals newly diagnosed with hypertension who did not have left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH).

The Predictive Importance of Body Mass Index on Response to Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy in Patients with Breast Cancer.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of body mass index (BMI) on the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) in Turkish patients with local and locally advanced breast cancer.

Methods: The pathological responses for the breast and axilla were assessed according to the Miller-Payne grading (MPG) system. Tumors were grouped into molecular phenotypes and classified as response rates according to the MPG system after the completion of NACT.

Should multifocality be an indication for prophylactic central neck dissection in papillary thyroid cancer?

Although multifocality is common in patients with papillary thyroid cancer, its effects on lymphatic metastasis and the necessity of central dissection in the presence of multifocality are still controversial. In our clinic, 258 patients who underwent thyroidectomy between 2015 and 2020 and were found to have papillary thyroid cancer in postoperative pathology reports were analyzed. The tumor characteristics contributing to central lymph node metastasis positivity were evaluated.

Effect of Blood Groups on Clinical Presentations and Treatment Outcomes in Immune Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura Patients with Severe ADAMTS13 Deficiency: A Multi-Center Experience.

Introduction: Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a thrombotic microangiopathy caused by accumulation of ultra-large von Willebrand factor (vWF) due to the significantly reduced activity ADAMTS13. Limited studies have been published examining the blood group as an epidemiological factor that can contribute to development of TTP. It has been suggested that due to low vWF levels, the distribution of the "O" blood group among TTP patients may be lower than anticipated compared to the blood group distribution rates in the normal population.
