Inorganic and organic-inorganic (hybrid) perovskite semiconductor materials have attracted worldwide scientific attention and research effort as the new wonder semiconductor material in optoelectronics. Their excellent physical and electronic properties have been exploited to boost the solar cells efficiency beyond 23% and captivate their potential as competitors to the dominant silicon solar cells technology. However, the fundamental principles in Physics, dictate that an excellent direct band gap material for photovoltaic applications must be also an excellent light emitter candidate.

Hydroiodic acid (HI)-treated reduced graphene oxide (rGO) ink/conductive polymeric composites are considered as promising cold cathodes in terms of high geometrical aspect ratio and low field emission (FE) threshold devices. In this study, four simple, cost-effective, solution-processed approaches for rGO-based field effect emitters were developed, optimized, and compared; rGO layers were coated on (a) n+ doped Si substrate, (b) n⁺-Si/P3HT:rGO, (c) n⁺-Si/PCDTBT:rGO, and (d) n⁺-Si/PCDTBT:PCBM:rGO composites, respectively. The fabricated emitters were optimized by tailoring the concentration ratios of their preparation and field emission characteristics.

Background And Objective: Early detection of cardiovascular (CV) disease or associated risk factors during childhood is of paramount importance, allowing for early treatment or lifestyle modifications, respectively. The objective of this study was to describe the development of an electronic health record (EHR), with integrated computerized decision support system (CDSS), specifically designed for supporting the needs of a pilot pediatric CV disease screening program applied on primary school students of a Mediterranean island.

Methods: Evidence-based knowledge, national and international practice guidelines regarding sport preparticipation CV screening of children and young athletes has been used for the design of the designated EHR.

Metal halide based perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are considered among the most promising photovoltaic technologies, and already present certified efficiencies that surpass 22 %. The high performance and low fabrication cost make this technology competitive with that of state-of-the-art thin-film photovoltaics. However, PSCs present some striking disadvantages that hinder their commercialization, including short operational lifetimes, high toxicity, and hysteresis effects, which lower both the performance and long-term stability of the devices.

Hybrid lead halide spin coated perovskite films have been successfully tested as portable, flexible, operated at room temperature, self-powered, and ultrasensitive ozone sensing elements. The electrical resistance of the hybrid lead mixed halide perovskite (CHNHPbICl) sensing element, was immediately decreased when exposed to an ozone (O) environment and manage to recover its pristine electrical conductivity values within few seconds after the complete removal of ozone gas. The sensing measurements showed different response times at different gas concentrations, good repeatability, ultrahigh sensitivity and fast recovery time.

CHNHPbI perovskite thin films have been deposited on glass/indium tin oxide/hole transport layer (HTL) substrates, utilizing two different materials as the HTLs. In the first configuration, the super hydrophilic polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate), known as PEDOT:PSS, was employed as the HTL material, whereas in the second case, the nonwetting poly(triarylamine) semiconductor polymer, known as PTAA, was used. It was found that when PTAA is used as the HTL material, the averaged power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the perovskite solar cells (PSCs) remarkably increases from 12.

The development of large-scale production methods of two-dimensional (2D) crystals, with on-demand control of the area and thickness, is mandatory to fulfill the potential applications of such materials for photovoltaics. Inverted bulk heterojunction (BHJ) organic solar cell (OSC), which exploits a polymer-fullerene binary blend as the active material, is one potentially important application area for 2D crystals. Efficient ternary organic photovoltaics incorporating a graphene-based porphyrin molecule as a universal electron cascade material.

A graphene-based porphyrin molecule (GO-TPP) was synthesized by covalent linkage of graphene oxide (GO) with 5-(4-aminophenyl)-10,15,20-triphenyl porphyrin (TPP-NH2). The yielded graphene-based material is a donor-acceptor (D-A) molecule, exhibiting strong intermolecular interactions between the GO core (A) and the covalently anchored porphyrin molecule (D). To demonstrate the universal role of GO-TPP as an electron cascade material, ternary blend organic photovoltaics based on [6,6]-phenyl-C71-butyric-acid-methyl-ester (PC71BM) as an electron acceptor material and two different polymer donor materials, poly[N-9'-hepta-decanyl-2,7-carbazole-alt-5,5-(40,70-di-2-thienyl-20,10,30-benzothiadiazole)] (PCDTBT) and the highly efficient poly({4,8-bis[(2-ethylhexyl)oxy]benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b']dithiophene-2,6-diyl}{3-fluoro-2-[(2-ethylhexyl)carbonyl]thieno[3,4-b]thiophenediyl}) (PTB7), were fabricated.

High mobility thin-film transistor technologies that can be implemented using simple and inexpensive fabrication methods are in great demand because of their applicability in a wide range of emerging optoelectronics. Here, a novel concept of thin-film transistors is reported that exploits the enhanced electron transport properties of low-dimensional polycrystalline heterojunctions and quasi-superlattices (QSLs) consisting of alternating layers of InO, GaO and ZnO grown by sequential spin casting of different precursors in air at low temperatures (180-200 °C). Optimized prototype QSL transistors exhibit band-like transport with electron mobilities approximately a tenfold greater (25-45 cm V s) than single oxide devices (typically 2-5 cm V s).

The dispersion behaviour of graphene oxide (GO) and chemically reduced GO (rGO) has been investigated in a wide range of organic solvents. The effect of the reduction process on the GO solubility in eighteen different solvents was examined and analysed, taking into consideration the solvent polarity, the surface tension and the Hansen and Hildebrand solubility parameters. rGO concentrations up to ∼9 μg/mL in chlorinated solvents were achieved, demonstrating an efficient solubilization strategy, extending the scope for scalable liquid-phase processing of conductive rGO inks for the development of printed flexible electronics.

Improving the efficiency of organic photovoltaics by tuning the work function of graphene oxide hole transporting layers.

A facile, fast, non-destructive and roll-to-roll compatible photochemical method for simultaneous partial reduction and doping of graphene oxide (GO) films through ultraviolet laser irradiation in the presence of a Cl2 precursor gas is demonstrated. The photochemical chlorinated GO-Cl films were fully characterized by XPS and Raman measurements, in which grafting of chloride to the edges and the basal plane of GO was confirmed. By tuning the laser exposure time, it is possible to control the doping and reduction levels and therefore to tailor the work function (WF) of the GO-Cl layers from 4.
