In Southern and Eastern Africa, initiation of daily oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention has been high among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) offered PrEP. However, persistence and prevention-effective use of PrEP among this critical group continues to be a challenge. We conducted a qualitative sub-study of AGYW from the Community PrEP Study in Eastern Cape Province, South Africa who had high rates of pick up for monthly PrEP refills over two years, but differing levels of PrEP adherence based on tenofovir-diphosphate (TFV-DP) measurements in dried blood spots (DBS).

Globally, systems have invested in a variety of dementia care programs in response to the aging population and those who have been diagnosed with dementia. This study is a qualitative secondary analysis of interview data from a larger study investigating stakeholder perceptions of programs that support caregivers and people living with an Alzheimer's Disease or Alzheimer's Disease-related dementia (AD/ADRD) in five North American jurisdictions. This study analyzed interviews with individuals living with an AD/ADRD and caregivers of individuals living with an AD/ADRD (n = 11).

Objective: Sexual assault perpetration remains prevalent among young men, and emotion regulation (ER) is a prominent contributor to sexual assault perpetration among young men experiencing anger or sexual arousal. However, little is known about the specific ER strategies which men use when perpetrating. Thus, the present study used latent profile analysis to group men into profiles based on their in-the-moment use of several ER strategies during two, hypothetical sexual situations: one which induced anger and another which induced sexual arousal.

Background: The prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) and its related cancers is a major global concern. In the United States, routine HPV vaccination is recommended for youth aged 11 or 12 years. Despite HPV being the most common sexually transmitted infection and the vaccine's proven efficacy, the vaccination rate among US youth remains below the recommended 80% completion rate.

This scoping review explores findings from the psychological and medical literature on the adaptive grieving experiences of bereaved dementia family caregivers and integrates what healthcare professionals can do to support bereaved dementia family caregivers transition into a post-death role. Bereaved dementia family caregivers are particularly susceptible to prolonged grief disorder post-death due to the protracted caregiving demands and progressive course of the illness. The mention of caregiver grief while the person with dementia is living is quite common in the literature; however, limited research focuses on the bereaved dementia family caregiver and the methods they use to grieve adaptively.

Background: Having multiple sleep problems is common in adulthood. Yet, most studies have assessed single sleep variables at one timepoint, potentially misinterpreting health consequences of co-occurring sleep problems that may change over time. We investigated the relationship between multidimensional sleep health across adulthood and mortality.

Background And Objectives: Sleep disorders often predict or co-occur with cognitive decline. Yet, little is known about how the relationship unfolds among older adults at risk for cognitive decline. To examine the associations of sleep disorders with cognitive decline in older adults with unimpaired cognition or impaired cognition (mild cognitive impairment and dementia).

Purpose: Alcohol use and sexual assault (SA) are common on college campuses. The purpose of this study is to examine if the association between alcohol use and SA differs by gender identity, sexual orientation, race, or ethnicity.
Methods: A total of 3,243 college students aged 18-25 at two large, minority-serving, public universities in the southwest and southeast United States completed an online survey about alcohol and sexual behaviors.

Objectives: Pain typically prompts individuals to seek relief. This study aimed to develop and psychometrically validate the Pain Relief Motivation Scales, applying revised "reinforcement sensitivity theory" to measure the neuropsychological systems underlying motivation for pain relief. We hypothesized a 6-factor structure based on previous work, including one Behavioral Inhibition System (BIS) factor, one Fight-Flight-Freeze System factor, and 4 Behavioral Activation System (BAS) factors.

Nursing home (NH) residents' capacity to communicate deteriorates with dementia. Consequently, NHs with high proportions of people living with dementia (PLWD) may receive fewer resident complaints, and/or investigating complaints may be challenging. We assessed NHs' proportion of PLWD in relation to total and substantiated complaints.

Background: Climate change, increasing recognition of institutionalized discrimination, and the COVID-19 pandemic are large-scale, societal events (ie, forces of change) that affect the timing, settings, and modes of youth physical activity. Despite the impact that forces of change have on youth physical activity and physical activity environments, few studies consider how they affect physical activity promotion.
Methods: The authors use 2 established frameworks, the ecological model of physical activity and the youth physical activity timing, how, and setting framework, to highlight changes in physical activity patterns of youth in North America that have resulted from contemporary forces of change.

The objective of this study was to understand stakeholders' perspectives on challenges in deprescribing these medications for post-acute HHC patients.
Design: Qualitative individual interviews were conducted with stakeholders involved with post-acute deprescribing.

Background And Objectives: Dementia-related anxiety (DRA) is the fear of a current or future diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or another type of dementia. Previous studies suggest diverse factors contribute to DRA, including emotional, social, and cognitive concerns. A mixed-methods investigation was designed to explore DRA's underlying causes; we present a thematic analysis of these causes.

Background: The efficacy and safety of Folfirinox (FFX) or gemcitabine + nab-paclitaxel (GnP) to be used as the first-line drugs for pancreatic cancer (PC) is yet to be established. We conducted an analysis of retrospective studies to assess the efficacy and safety of these two regimens by comparing their survival and safety outcomes in patients with PC.
Methods: We conducted an extensive review of two electronic databases from inception till February 2023 to include all the relevant studies that compared FFX with GnP published and unpublished work.

Background: We sought to determine if risk for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a history of OSA, and/or treatment of OSA has a different association with incident cognitive impairment or cognitive decline in Black individuals and White individuals.
Methods: To determine whether the risk for OSA, a history of OSA, and/or treatment of OSA has a different association with incident cognitive impairment or cognitive decline in Black individuals and White individuals; data from the REasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS) was used. Lee and Cubbin's (2009) call for a "socially just" Ecological Model of Physical Activity (EMPA) prompted an inquiry into physical activity (PA), active living (AL) research that advances social justice framed as a set of equity-centered principles for research. In response to the call, we conducted a scoping review to explore how PAAL research has operationalized equity to advance a socially-just EMPA. We searched for original research, published between 2010 and 2020, using key terms for 'physical activity' and 'equity' that produced 5,152 non-duplicated records.

Introduction: Adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) face barriers that jeopardize their prevention-effective use of daily oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). We sought to understand factors that influence AGYW's prolonged breaks in PrEP use, and their decisions to re-initiate or discontinue using PrEP in the context of a community-based adherence support intervention.
Methods: In-depth interviews (IDIs) were conducted between December 2019 and April 2021 with purposively selected AGYW (aged 16-25) enrolled in the Community PrEP Study (CPS) in Buffalo City Metro Health District, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.
