Background: The effect of platelet factor 4 (PF4) on bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) and osteoporosis is poorly understood. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of PF4-triggered bone destruction in mice and determine the underlying mechanism.

Methods: First, in vitro cell proliferation and cell cycle of BMMSCs were assessed using a CCK8 assay and flow cytometry, respectively.

The research on the treatment of primary immunodeficiency diseases by hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: A bibliometric analysis from 2013 to 2022.

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is curative in patients with primary immunodeficiency syndrome. The safety and efficacy of HSCT as a therapeutic option for primary immunodeficiency diseases (PID) have been studied by many research groups. The purpose of our study was to perform a bibliometric analysis of research on HSCT for the treatment of PID, to assess research trends in this field, and note future research priorities.

Progesterone vaginal ring as a new contraceptive option for lactating mothers: Evidence from a multicenter non-randomized comparative clinical trial in India.

Objectives: Evaluate and compare contraceptive efficacy, safety, continuation rates and duration of lactational amenorrhea (LA) in married lactating women (20-35 years) using the progesterone vaginal ring (PVR) or Copper-T380A intrauterine device (IUD) during the first postpartum year.

Study Design: We conducted a one-year multicenter, non-randomized, non-inferiority, open-label, comparative trial at 20 centers in India and compared efficacy, safety, continuation and LA plus feeding patterns and growth/well-being of participants' infants. Women used four 3-month PVRs consecutively (lost PVRs were not replaced) and were to breastfeed at least four times/day.

With the rapid economic development and dramatic changes in lifestyle, the prevalence of overweight and obesity in China has been increasing significantly and become a serious public health threat. This article introduced the main contents of "China Blue Paper on Obesity Prevention and Control", aiming to facilitate understanding and applications of the "China Blue Paper on Obesity Prevention and Control" by policymakers, researchers and practitioners in related fields. Built upon these, recommendations were made for obesity screening, diagnosis, treatment and management, prevention and control policies and strategies, and future research priorities in China.

[Analysis of body composition and resting metabolic rate of 858 middle-aged and elderly people in urban area of Beijing].

To understand the overweight rate and obesity rate in middle-aged and elderly people in urban area of Beijing, and analyze the changes of body composition and resting metabolic rate with age. From November 2014 to December 2015, body composition measurement and resting metabolic rate detection were conducted among 858 people aged 51 to 99 years, including 760 men, 98 women, who received physical examination at Beijing Hospital. The overweight rate was 51.

Metformin-Induced Changes of the Coding Transcriptome and Non-Coding RNAs in the Livers of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Mice.

Background/aims: Recent studies have suggested that changes in non-coding mRNA play a key role in the progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Metformin is now recommended and effective for the treatment of NAFLD. We hope the current analyses of the non-coding mRNA transcriptome will provide a better presentation of the potential roles of mRNAs and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) that underlie NAFLD and metformin intervention.

A multi-center survey on dietary knowledge and behavior among inpatients in oncology department.

Objective: To investigate the current associated factors of dietary knowledge and behavior, the intake and nutritional status in malignancy Chinese inpatients, and the malnutrition causes involved in dietary nutrition knowledge level and behavior, providing recommendations to patients for nutrition education and intervention.

Method: Five hundred and thirty-five participants from 18 hospitals were investigated by a questionnaire related to dietary knowledge and behavior. Physicians asked and recorded the level of dietary intake and appetite scoring of the participants.

Sildenafil Improves Vascular and Metabolic Function in Patients with Alzheimer's Disease.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the leading cause of degenerative dementia in the aging population. Patients with AD have alterations in cerebral hemodynamic function including reduced cerebral blood flow (CBF) and cerebral metabolic rate. Therefore, improved cerebrovascular function may be an attractive goal for pharmaceutical intervention in AD.

[Effects of Breastfeeding Empowerment Program on Breastfeeding Self-efficacy, Adaptation and Continuation in Primiparous Women].

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a breastfeeding empowerment program and to investigate the effects of the breastfeeding empowerment program on self-efficacy, adaptation and continuation of breastfeeding for primiparous women.

Methods: The 5 session breastfeeding empowerment program was developed and a non-equivalent control group non-synchronized quasi-experiment design was used. Fifty-five participants were assigned to either the experimental group (n=27) or the control group (n=28).

Quantitation of proteinuria in nephrotic syndrome by spot urine protein creatinine ratio estimation in children.

In Nephrotic Syndrome the amount of protein excretion is a reflection of activity of disease. Quantitative measurement of proteinuria by a 24-hour urine collection has been the accepted method of evaluation. Recent studies have shown that calculation of protein/creatinine ratio in a spot urine sample correlates well with the 24-hour urine protein (24-HUP) excretion.

Ethics and practice in organ transplantation in patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus.

In sum, much more needs to be known about the issue of transplantation in HIV-infected patients before the current state of extremely limited access to transplantation for these patients can be medically and ethically justified. Approaches to remedy this situation may include well-designed outcome studies; revision of existing local, regional, and national policies to better reflect the current state of knowledge; and education of clinicians, patients, and the public about this topic. Nurses can effect change in this area as informed clinicians, patients' advocates, researchers, and policy makers.

Pre-labour rupture of membrane: the histological study of membrane and bacteriological profile.

One hundred two (102) cases of pre-labour rupture of membrane (PROM) were studied and special attention was given to the histological study of the amniotic membrane as well as to the bacteriological study of high vaginal flora, cervical flora and flora of amniotic fluid, in search of probable causes or factors leading to PROM. The incidence was found to be 3.16% in the age group of 20-25 years without any relation to parity; and the duration of gestation was 38 to 40 weeks in most of the cases.

How safe is caesarean section.

Over an almost 5 year period, 8,017 caesarean sections were done, and there were 51 maternal deaths following caesarean section (of which 5 were done outside). Caesarean section deaths accounted for 1 in 8 overall maternal deaths in the hospital, and institutional mortality for caesarean section was 5.7/1,000 operations.

Perinatal mortality in caesarean section: a disturbing picture of unfulfilled expectations.

Indications for caesarean section had been studied in a 2-year period and the incidences were compared to that of the same 15 years back. Though there are more incidences of caesarean section, still perinatal death is a major concern to all. The study included a total of 291 perinatal deaths of which there were 208 early neonatal deaths and 83 stillbirths over a period of 2 years from January, 1990 to December, 1991.

Needle tract implantation of papillary carcinoma of the thyroid following aspiration biopsy.

A case is reported of a slow-growing papillary carcinoma of the thyroid that caused clinically apparent implantation along the tract of a fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy. This appears to be the first report of a cutaneous needle tract metastasis from a papillary thyroid carcinoma. It represents a highly unusual complication of an FNA biopsy of an indolent, slow-growing tumor.

Refractory ascites due to POEMS syndrome.

A 52-yr-old woman developed exudative ascites 2 yr after the onset of peripheral neuropathy. Extensive evaluation revealed that the patient had no underlying liver disease, malignancy, infection, or cardiac or renal disease. The ascites initially responded to high-dose corticosteroid therapy.
