Surgical repair of large orbital floor and medial wall fractures with destruction of the inferomedial strut: Initial experience with a combined endoscopy navigation technique.

The application of navigation and endoscope is an area of intense interest in the surgical repair of orbital fractures. This study explored the advantages of a combined endoscopy navigation technique (ENT) for repairing large orbital floor and medial wall fractures (OFMWFs) with destruction of the inferomedial strut (IMS). Fifty-two consecutive patients with large OFMWFs with the destruction of the IMS underwent ENT-assisted surgical repair from January 2013 to February 2016.

Introduction: To report our experience with lateral eyelid island flaps for reconstruction of large central and medial full-thickness defects of lower eyelid.

Methods: Retrospective case series of patients with large central and medial full-thickness lower lid defects repaired with medial transposition of the lateral lower lid combined with a temporal myocutaneous flap. Preoperatively the authors collected demographic data, etiology and percentage of the defects.

Ocular-periocular burns in a tertiary hospital: Epidemiologic characteristics.

Purpose: Ocular burns are ophthalmic emergencies that can cause devastating injuries. This study aimed to analyze the epidemiology, complications, and management of ocular-periocular burns.

Methods: A total of 193 patients with ocular-periocular burns were admitted to our tertiary hospital from January 2018 to December 2020.

A case series study of lacrimal canalicular laceration repair with the bi-canalicular stent.

Background: Lacrimal canalicular laceration can be caused by trauma on the ocular adnexa, such as penetrating or blunt injuries, accounting for approximately 16% of eyelid lacerations and 20% of eye traumas. Historically, canalicular anastomosis combined with bi-canalicular or mono-canalicular stent intubation has been used for canalicular laceration repair. In this study, we analyzed the epidemiological characteristics of lacrimal canalicular laceration and evaluate the clinical outcomes of repair using the bi-canalicular stent in central China.

Background/objectives: Adverse effects of topical glaucoma medications (TGMs) may include development of ocular adnexal disorders. We undertook a study to determine the effect of TGMs on the risk of developing lacrimal drainage obstruction (LDO) and eyelid malposition.

Subjects/methods: All patients 66 years of age and older in Ontario, Canada initiating TGM and all patients diagnosed with glaucoma/suspected glaucoma but not receiving TGM from 2002 to 2018 were eligible for inclusion in this retrospective cohort study.

This study was conducted to simulate salpingitis of laying hens by observing the morphology and expression of inflammatory genes in the oviduct. A total of one hundred twenty 81-wk-old Roman Pink laying hens in good physical condition without the oviduct disease with an average egg production rate of 76% were fed a basal diet for 2 wks and then randomly allocated into 4 groups (6 replicates/group, 5 birds/replicate). Purpose: Crocodile tears syndrome is a rare autonomic synkinesia, in which patients tear excessively in response to salivary stimuli. It usually occurs after idiopathic or traumatic facial palsy, as a result of aberrant reinnervation of the lacrimal gland by salivary efferent fibers from either the seventh or ninth cranial nerve.

Patients And Methods: We report the case of a 54-year-old woman, with a history of left Bell's palsy, who attended our ophthalmology clinic due to epiphora of the left eye while eating or speaking, for 6 months.

Absorbable Suture Anchor Technique: A Method for Postblepharoplasty Lower Eyelid Ectropion Treatment.

Tarsal Ectropion Repair With Modified Bick Eyelid Tightening and Inverting Sutures.

Purpose: The authors report on a 10-year experience of correcting tarsal ectropion using a combined method of modified Bick eyelid tightening (MBLT) and inverting sutures.

Dupilumab-associated ectropion and punctal stenosis treated with tacrolimus ointment (0.03%) in a 15-year-old girl.

A 15-year-old Asian girl with severe atopic dermatitis was referred for dupilumab-associated blepharoconjunctivitis. Medical history was significant for severe atopic dermatitis. She was started on prednisolone acetate 1% ophthalmic suspension three times daily, and dupilumab injections were withheld after the initial visit.

Background: Maxillary reconstructive surgery with fibula free flaps (FFFs) is a challenging procedure for head and neck surgeons. However, virtual surgical planning (VSP) and three-dimensional (3D) printing technologies have contributed to improved functional and aesthetic outcomes. The objective of this report is to demonstrate VSP/3D application in reconstruction of maxillary defects using the FFF by describing the different configurations available.
