Fourteen-Year Experience in Burn Eyelid Reconstruction and Complications Recurrence: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Background: Loss of vision and other ocular defects are a concern with eyelid burn sequelae. This most commonly progresses from eyelid contracture to cicatricial ectropion and lagophthalmos. When left untreated, these may lead to exposure keratitis, ulceration, infection, perforation, and loss of vision.

Could tranexamic acid be a suitable alternative to cryotherapy for symptomatic cervical ectopy? Results from a randomized clinical trial.

Objective: Cervical ectropion occurs due to the eversion of the endocervix that exposes glandular cells to the vaginal milieu. The aim of the present study was to evaluate and compare the clinical efficacy of effervescent vaginal tablets of tranexamic acid and cryotherapy in women with symptomatic cervical ectopy.

Methods: The current randomized clinical trial was conducted on 92 samples of women with cervical erosive ectropion from March 20, 2022 to August 27, 2022.

Lateral Tarsoplasty Combined with a Full-Thickness Skin Graft for Managing Severe Lower Eyelid Ectropion Following the Subciliary Approach for Infra-Orbital Rim Fracture: A Retrospective Observational Study.

Subciliary incision is a common approach for facial fracture surgery; however, it has a higher incidence of lower lid ectropion, which can be particularly challenging for beginning surgeons to manage. This study reports the usage of lateral tarsoplasty combined with a full-thickness skin graft (FTSG) to correct severe ectropion following the subciliary approach for infra-orbital rim fractures. We retrospectively reviewed all facial fracture cases involving infra-orbital rim fractures through a subciliary approach treated in our department between March 2021 and May 2023.

Postoperative hyphema due to persistent tunica vasculosa lentis in glaucoma associated with neurofibromatosis-a case report.

An 8-month-old girl referred from her pediatrician with a diagnosis of neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) presented with an enlarged cloudy cornea of the left eye and a swollen left side of the face. Her left eye had intraocular pressure (IOP) of 21 mm Hg, corneal diameter of 16 mm, ectropion uvea, cup:disk ratio of 0.9, axial length of 28.

Treatment of Cicatricial Lower Eyelid Ectropion with Suture of Horner Muscle Combined with Fascia Transplantation.

This case series aimed to describe a new technique for correcting contractures and deformities that reliably addresses lacrimal punctum deviation and severe cicatricial lower eyelid ectropion. This was a technical description and a retrospective interventional case series. Cervicofacial Pediatric Tissue Expansion: Aesthetic Unit-Based Algorithm.

Background: Tissue expansion is a powerful tool in reconstruction of pediatric soft-tissue pathologies, but complication rates in children have been reported to be as high as 40%. Infection and implant extrusion lead to premature removal and delays in reconstruction. Expanding the head and neck is uniquely challenging because the confluence of facial aesthetic units must be respected.

Management of Ectropion Associated With a Malunited Zygomaticomaxillary Complex Fracture: A Case Report.

We report the case of a 35-year-old male patient who presented with a right zygomaticomaxillary complex fracture, which was five months old. It was associated with ectropion over the right eye. Diagnosis was made by clinical examination and confirmed by computed tomography, which included a three-dimensional reconstruction view.

Demographic, Etiological, and Clinical Characteristics of Eyelid Lacerations.

Objectives: To evaluate the demographic, etiological, and accompanying clinical factors in eyelid lacerations (EL).

Materials And Methods: The records of patients who presented to our clinic between 2018 and 2022 with eyelid trauma were retrospectively reviewed. Age, gender, cause of injury, clinical findings, accompanying ocular findings, and additional complications were analyzed.

Supraperiosteal fat repositioning with midface lift in lower eyelid blepharoplasty: an 18-year experience.

Purpose: To assess the clinical outcomes of fat repositioning via supraperiosteal dissection with midface lift for correction of tear trough deformity in a large Asian patient population.

Methods: Retrospectively review 1152 Asian patients who underwent fat repositioning to the supraperiosteal plane with a midface lift between 2005 and 2022. Surgical technique, postoperative course, and complications were recorded.

Prevalence of common and rare ophthalmic findings in adults attending a medical survey institute.

Purpose: To examine the ophthalmic data from a large database of people attending a general medical survey institute, and to investigate ophthalmic findings of the eye and its adnexa, including differences in age and sex.

Methods: Retrospective analysis including medical data of all consecutive individuals whose ophthalmic data and the prevalences of ocular pathologies were extracted from a very large database of subjects examined at a single general medical survey institute.

Results: Data were derived from 184,589 visits of 3676 patients (mean age 52 years, 68% males).

Evaluation of dry eye disease and corneal epithelial mapping in patients with lower eyelid ectropion.

Purpose: To evaluate the corneal epithelial mapping, ocular surface parameters and their relationship with each other in lower eyelid ectropion patients according to severity.

Methods: This retrospective study included 48 lower eyelid ectropion patients and 63 healthy individuals as control group. Ocular surface and tear functions were evaluated with ocular surface staining score, tear film break-up time (BUT), non-invasive tear break-up time (NIBUT) and ocular surface disease index (OSDI).

Modified Mustardé and Superolateral Periosteal Flaps for Full-Thickness Defects of Medial and Central Lower Eyelid: A Case Series.

Background: Reconstructing full-thickness defects involving 50% to 75% of the horizontal length of the lower eyelid after medial and central full-thickness block resection can be challenging. As a disadvanatge, 1-stage reconstructions may require a free graft reconstruction of the posterior lamella. In addition, 2-stage reconstructions are associated with several complications, including erythema, and the eye must be temporarily closed after surgery.

Resolution of Pityriasis rubra pilaris induced ectropion with oral dexamethasone. A case report.

An 82-year-old male presented with generalised Pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP) managed initially by dermatology team. The patient did not respond to first- and second-line treatment, including oral acitretin, steroid creams, and methotrexate, and developed bilateral cicatricial ectropion, for which he was referred to oculoplastic team for surgical management. A head injury resulting in subacute subdural haematoma, managed with a week course of low dose oral dexamethasone, resulted in the improvement of his skin condition and complete resolution of the cicatricial ectropion within a few weeks.

Congenital ectropion in Noonan syndrome.

Ten-year-old female patient, with facial dysmorphia, scoliosis, short stature, muscular hypotonia, patent foramen ovale and maturational delay, presented for correction of bilateral congenital ectropion. Ophthalmological examination revealed bilateral lower eyelid ectropion, euryblepharon and lagophthalmos, with a positive Bell's phenomenon. She was treated with full-thickness autologous skin grafts on the lower eyelids with bilateral lateral canthoplasty, resolving the ectropion and improving eyelid occlusion.

Customized Reconstruction of Lower Eyelid Defects.

Background: A lower eyelid defect is a loss of skin, muscle, and underlying structures that can occur due to trauma, malignant or benign tumors, burns, or other causes. The conventional surgical treatment of lower lid defects has several limitations, including visible scarring, narrowing of the eye, and ectropion. Here, we combined the use of a customized mid-face lift with a free mucochondral graft to overcome the disadvantages of existing methods.

Ultrasonic cavitation induced Vibrio parahaemolyticus entering an apoptosis-like death process through SOS response.

As an effective non-thermal sterilization method, ultrasound remains at the level of passive bacterial death despite the initial understanding of its sterilization mechanism. Here, we present the perspective that bacteria can choose to actively enter an apoptosis-like death state in response to external ultrasonic stress. In this study, Vibrio parahaemolyticus exhibited apoptotic markers such as phosphatidylserine ectropion and activated caspases when subjected to ultrasound stress.

Characteristics of Cervical Cancer Caused by the Human Papillomavirus 18 and Its Genetic Variations in Vietnamese Women.

Background: The involvement of HPV18 in cervical cancer pathogenesis, as well as its high oncogenic potential and influence on the variation of cervical cancer distribution in different geographical regions, makes assessing the characteristics of cervical cancer and its variants the basis for considering potential carcinogenic HPV18 sequence variations and vaccine strategies.

Methods: A prospective study was conducted at Vietnam Central Obstetrics Hospital from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020. HPV18 infection was confirmed in cervical cancer patients using molecular diagnostics.

Prenatal ultrasound detection of collodion membrane in association with an autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis due to transglutaminase 1 deficiency.

We describe a case of collodion baby diagnosed prenatally by ultrasound. Classic signs (ectropion, flattened nose, and eclabion) were detected on routine ultrasound at 21 weeks of gestation. At birth, the presence of collodion membrane was confirmed and subsequently, the diagnosis of an autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis due to compound heterozygosity of the TGM1 gene was made.
