Surprise Baby: Abdominoplasty Performed During Unknown Pregnancy.

Plast Reconstr Surg Glob Open

December 2024

From the Department of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, Hospital of the Brothers of St. John of God, Paracelsus Medical University, Salzburg, Austria.

Abdominoplasty is a commonly performed procedure for patients after significant weight loss and in postpregnancy women. Stable weight and completed family planning are critical for optimal outcomes, as pregnancy postabdominoplasty can increase risks for both mother and fetus and potentially compromise aesthetic results. We present the first reported case of a patient undergoing abdominoplasty while unknowingly pregnant.

Chronopsychological research typically applied the morningness-eveningness dimension, resulting in a distinction between morning, intermediate, and evening chronotypes. However, in recent years, new measures have been developed that transcend the traditional "morning larks" vs. "night owls" dichotomy and better capture the complexity of individual differences in circadian rhythmicity.

: As the first sentinel lymph nodes (SLN) in lung cancer are most likely to harbor metastasis, their non-invasive identification could have a significant role in future treatments. We investigated the feasibility of adding an SLN procedure to a diagnostic navigation bronchoscopy. : Thirty-one patients were included for injection of Tc-nanocolloid and an iodinated contrast agent intra-/peritumorally and assessment of tracer dissipation via SPECT and CBCT imaging.

Inflammation has been recognized as major factor for successful bone regeneration. On the other hand, a prolonged or overshooting inflammatory response can also cause fracture healing failure. The nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain (NOD)-like receptor protein (NLRP)3 inflammasome plays a crucial role in inflammatory cytokine production.

The dopaminergic system is a central component of the brain's neurobiological framework, governing motor control and reward responses and playing an essential role in various brain disorders. Within this complex network, the nigrostriatal pathway represents a critical circuit for dopamine neurotransmission from the substantia nigra to the striatum. However, stand-alone functional magnetic resonance imaging is unable to study the intricate interplay between brain activation and its molecular underpinnings.

Background: Time-resolved angiography with interleaved stochastic trajectories (TWIST) magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) may obscure smaller vessels and is highly susceptibility to motion artifacts, potentially reducing endoleak detection accuracy after endovascular aortic repair (EVAR). The novel golden-angle radial sparse parallel (GRASP) sequence enhances spatial and temporal resolution with continuous, motion-robust datasets, showing promise for accurate endoleak detection post-EVAR. This study aimed to compare the diagnostic effectiveness of contrast-enhanced compressed-sensing radial GRASP-volume interpolated breath-hold examination (VIBE) sequence with standard contrast-enhanced dynamic TWIST-VIBE sequence in patients with inconclusive computed tomography angiography (CTA) findings regarding endoleak after EVAR.

  • Perianal rhabdomyosarcoma (P)RMS is a rare cancer in young children with a generally poor prognosis, and there's limited data on effective treatments.
  • This study reviewed treatment outcomes for 6 children who received surgery and high-dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy since 2009, with the majority achieving successful organ preservation and survival.
  • The findings suggest that combining surgery and HDR brachytherapy is a feasible treatment option that can improve survival rates and maintain organ function in young patients with (P)RMS.

Increased humeral retrotorsion is not a risk factor for overuse injury of the throwing shoulder in elite youth handball athletes.

J Shoulder Elbow Surg

January 2025

Department for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, Eberhard Karls University Tuebingen, University Hospital Tuebingen, Tübingen, Germany.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how humeral retrotorsion (HRT) and shoulder range of motion (ROM) influence the risk of shoulder overuse injuries in elite youth handball players, hypothesizing that higher HRT correlates with increased injury risk.
  • Over two seasons, 258 players underwent assessments of HRT and shoulder ROM, with findings showing significant differences between male and female athletes in HRT and internal rotation, but no strong connection between these measures and shoulder injuries.
  • The results concluded that while there are noteworthy differences in shoulder mechanics, neither HRT nor ROM were significantly linked to shoulder overuse injuries, indicating that other factors may play a more essential role in injury risk
