The aim of this study was to identify the effects of exercise on inflammatory biomarkers in people with depression.

Anti-sulfatide antibodies in neurological disorders: should we test?

Objective: Neurological autoimmune peripheral and central nervous system disorders can be associated with anti-sulfatide antibodies. These antibodies are considered potential diagnostic biomarkers, although their additional diagnostic value in neurological fields has been increasingly questioned. Given the little evidence of anti-sulfatide antibodies' frequency and diagnostic value in neurology, we aimed to fill this knowledge gap by investigating 10 years of data.

The demographic shift towards an aging population necessitates a reevaluation of surgical interventions like coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in octogenarians. This study aims to elucidate the outcomes of CABG in octogenarians with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), a group traditionally considered at high risk for such procedures. Conducted across four academic hospitals in Germany from 2017 to 2023, this retrospective multicenter study assessed 100 patients (50 octogenarians ≥80 years and 50 non-octogenarians <80 years) with HFrEF undergoing isolated CABG.

Objectives: Intrauterine exposure to gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) increases the risk of obesity in the offspring, but little is known about the underlying neural mechanisms. The hippocampus is crucial for food intake regulation and is vulnerable to the effects of obesity. The purpose of the study was to investigate whether GDM exposure affects hippocampal functional connectivity during exposure to food cues using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).

Improved detection of small pulmonary embolism on unenhanced computed tomography using an artificial intelligence-based algorithm - a single centre retrospective study.

To preliminarily verify the feasibility of a deep-learning (DL) artificial intelligence (AI) model to localize pulmonary embolism (PE) on unenhanced chest-CT by comparison with pulmonary artery (PA) CT angiography (CTA). In a monocentric study, we retrospectively reviewed 99 oncological patients (median age in years: 64 (range: 28-92 years); percentage of female: 39.4%) who received unenhanced and contrast-enhanced chest CT examinations in one session between January 2020 and October 2022 and who were diagnosed incidentally with PE.

Aberrant p53 immunostaining (IHC) patterns may provide a surrogate marker for TP53 mutations. Building upon a ternary algorithm of aberrant staining patterns, this study evaluates the reliability of p53 IHC as screening tool for TP53 mutations in BC (NST).

Is overweight a predictor for a more severe course of disease in cases of necrotizing fasciitis?

Purpose: Necrotizing fasciitis is a rare but severe soft tissue infection, and its diagnosis is difficult and often delayed. Immediate treatment comprising extensive debridement, highly dosed broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy and intensive care is necessary to prevent fatal outcomes. Considering the global rise in overweight patients and the known negative effects of obesity on the immune system, the aim of this study was to analyze whether overweight results in a more severe course of necrotizing fasciitis, worse outcomes and an increased mortality rate among overweight patients compared than in normal weight patients.

Influence of learning strategies and motivation on anatomy test performance of undergraduate medical students.

To learn and comprehend the large amount of information in gross anatomy, undergraduate students must self-regulate their learning to be properly prepared for the exams within the available time. Even though there are many studies on learning strategies and their influence on test results and motivation, the aim of this study is to investigate characteristics of learning strategies in detail and in relation to the anatomy course of first semester students and how their use is related to anatomy test performance. For assessing the learning strategies, we used the short version of the questionnaire "Learning Strategies of University Students" (LIST-K) (Klingsieck, 2018).

Background: Clinical decision support systems (CDSSs) are increasingly being introduced into various domains of health care. Little is known so far about the impact of such systems on the health care professional-patient relationship, and there is a lack of agreement about whether and how patients should be informed about the use of CDSSs.

Objective: This study aims to explore, in an empirically informed manner, the potential implications for the health care professional-patient relationship and to underline the importance of this relationship when using CDSSs for both patients and future professionals.

Plexin C1 influences immune response to intracellular LPS and survival in murine sepsis.

Background: Intracellular sensing of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is essential for the immune response against gram-negative bacteria and results in activation of caspase-11 and pyroptotic cell death with fatal consequences in sepsis. We found the neuronal guidance receptor plexin C1 (PLXNC1) influences the intracellular response to LPS.

Methods: We employed a murine model of sepsis via cecal ligation and binding (CLP), using PLXNC1-/- mice and littermate controls, and additionally transfected murine bone-marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) from both genotypes with LPS to achieve activation of the noncanonical inflammasome ex vivo.
