The link between medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) and bone modulating drugs, such as bisphosphonates and denosumab, is well established, and the number of reported cases is increasing. The development of novel medications used in the treatment of cancer, as well as autoimmune and bone conditions, has led to more cases of MRONJ being reported. However, in addition to this group of medications, increasing numbers of new agents in cancer therapy, such as antiangiogenic agents, have also been implicated in the development of MRONJ.

Background: The outcomes of orthodontic treatment are frequently classified as aesthetic, functional, and psychosocial. However, there is limited research looking at outcomes of treatment in a qualitative manner from the patients' perspective. It is crucial to have a better understanding of these outcomes to allow management of expectations and enhance satisfaction with treatment.

Background And Objectives: Recent years have seen increased research investigating treatment outcomes from a patient perspective. However, parental perceptions are also important, as parents provide useful feedback. There is general acceptance that patients, and their parents, seek treatment for reasons including improvements in aesthetics, function, and quality of life.

Objectives: To describe changes in growth factor mediators in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of patients with aggressive periodontitis (AgP) undergoing regenerative (GTR) and access flap (AF) surgery.
Materials And Methods: This was a 12-month, single-blind, split-mouth RCT involving 18 AgP patients with a bilateral intrabony defect which was treated with GTR or AF. GCF was collected prior to surgery and at subsequent follow-up visits from 3 days to 12 months post-operatively, and the levels of angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1), vascular-endothelial growth factor (VEGF), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2), osteoprotegerin (OPG), tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP-1), keratinocyte growth factor (KGF) and platelet-derived growth factor-AB (PDGF-AB) were measured.

Objectives: The aim of Working Group 3 was to focus on three topics that were assessed using patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). These topics included the following: (a) the aesthetics of tooth and implant-supported fixed dental prostheses focusing on partially edentulous patients, (b) a comparison of fixed and removable implant-retained prostheses for edentulous populations, and (c) immediate versus early/conventional loading of immediately placed implants in partially edentate patients. PROMs include ratings of satisfaction and oral health-related quality of life (QHRQoL), as well as other indicators, that is, pain, general health-related quality of life (e.

Objectives: The aim of the present publication was to report on the EAO Workshop group-4 discussions and consensus statements on the five reviews previously prepared. These reviews provided the scientific evidence on the effect of crown-to-implant ratio, on reconstructions with cantilevers in fully and partially edentulous patients, on biological and technical complications of tilted in comparison with straight implants, and on the effects of osseointegrated implants functioning in a residual dentition.
Material And Methods: The group discussed, evaluated, corrected where deemed appropriate, and made recommendations to the authors regarding the following five reviews submitted: (a) Is there an effect of crown-to-implant ratio on implant treatment outcomes?; (b) Implant-supported cantilevered fixed dental rehabilitations in fully edentulous patients; (c) and in partially edentulous patients; (d) Biological and technical complications of tilted implants in comparison with straight implants supporting fixed dental prostheses; (e) What are the adverse effects of osseointegrated implants functioning among natural teeth of a residual dentition? Based on the five manuscripts and the discussion among the group as well as the plenum members, the major findings were summarized, consensus statements were formulated, clinical recommendations were proposed, and areas of future research were identified.

This paper describes different types of space maintainers and the clinical situations where they may be useful, for example, when primary teeth have been lost prematurely. It serves as a clinical guide for practitioners on the best types of space maintainers to use and on the clinical uses of space maintainers in preventing undesirable tooth movements and resulting loss of arch length.

All members of the clinical dental team face a daily risk of a personal sharp injury. A wide range of sharp instruments are used, some of which are specifically designed to easily pierce the skin and mucosa. The instruments are placed, moved, passed between colleagues, used for treatment, replaced and cleaned, all in relatively confined areas.

Root resorption is a common but undesirable side-effect of orthodontic treatment. It is a well-recognised phenomenon largely associated with impacted or unerupted teeth and in most cases, is mild and does not affect longevity of the affected teeth. This case report of a medically fit and healthy Caucasian boy who was undergoing orthodontic treatment at the Eastman Dental Hospital, UCLH (EDH) for management of his severe hypodontia, presents an unusual incident of bilateral resorption of his maxillary first permanent molars by the unerupted second molars.

Aim: The human dentition contains many features which can be used to identify an individual from the dentition or from bite marks created and bite mark evidence may be used to link a suspect to a crime. The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of orthodontic treatment on the uniqueness of the human anterior dentition by comparison of the number of dental shape matches between pre- and post-treatment dental casts for a group of patients who have undergone orthodontic treatment (dental braces) to improve the alignment of their teeth.
Method: This comparative study utilised pre- and post-orthodontic treatment dental casts from 36 patients.

The challenge for those treating or witnessing pain is to find a way of crossing the chasm of meaning between them and the person living with pain. This paper proposes that images can strengthen agency in the person with pain, particularly but not only in the clinical setting, and can create a shared space within which to negotiate meaning. It draws on multidisciplinary analyses of unique material resulting from two fine art/medical collaborations in London, UK, in which the invisible experience of pain was made visible in the form of co-created photographic images, which were then made available to other patients as a resource to use in specialist consultations.
