Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a highly disabling disorder characterised by very severe, brief and electric shock like recurrent episodes of facial pain. New diagnostic criteria, which subclassify TN on the basis of presence of trigeminal neurovascular conflict or an underlying neurological disorder, should be used as they allow better characterisation of patients and help in decision-making regarding medical and surgical treatments. MR imaging, including high-resolution trigeminal sequences, should be performed as part of the diagnostic work-up.

Consultant Orthodontist, UCL Eastman Dental Institute, Rockefeller Building, 21 University Street, London, WC1E 6DE, UK.

Introduction Over the past 10 to 15 years, there has been growing recognition that the traditional spectrum of gender-defined dichotomised roles does not necessarily, or accurately, fit within a certain subsection of the population. A condition associated with gender incongruity that dental practitioners must be aware of is gender dysphoria.Aims Our role as dental and oral healthcare professionals necessitates us to provide safe and effective dental healthcare to all members of the population; as such, it is essential for dental healthcare professionals to undertake appropriate professional development to increase their knowledge of gender dysphoria.

Eastman Dental Hospital, Department of Paediatric Dentistry, 47-49 Huntley Street, London, WC1E 6DG, UK, UK.

Prior to 1966, consumers purchased food items with very little (if any) nutritional labels. Now, nutritional labelling is an integral part of informed consumer choice. This paper advocates for a similar approach for healthcare-related products, using the toothbrush as an example, with the need to quantify and publish data on their clinical efficacy and environmental impact.

The past decade has offered new insights into trigeminal neuralgia symptomatology, pathophysiology, and treatment, leading to a change in the classification of the condition. An accurate diagnosis is crucial because neuroimaging interpretation and clinical management differ among the various forms of facial pain.

This case report describes a rare presentation of an osteoma in the maxillary sinus picked up from an incidental finding on an orthopantomogram that was obtained to inform orthodontic treatment. While orthodontists principally use this radiograph to assess the developing dentition, aid treatment planning and monitor treatment, several peripheral anatomical sites are evident on this radiograph. We review the literature in relation to osteomas presenting in the craniofacial area along with its management.

The effects of breastfeeding on the occlusion have been much debated, and it is often suggested that breastfeeding facilitates optimal development of the jaws and the dentition, thus preventing the development of a malocclusion. Despite these claims, the evidence is equivocal, and the majority of studies are of low quality and only assess the deciduous dentition. Therefore, at present there is currently no high quality evidence to support claims that breastfeeding has a positive effect on the occlusion, thus the method of feeding should be chosen due to the health benefits and personal preference, not due to any claims regarding occlusal benefits that cannot be substantiated.
