Background And Objective: People with adult-onset hearing loss (AoHL) are at increased dementia risk. In this study, we explore potential aetiological mechanisms by synthesising the evidence on the association between AoHL and neuropathological, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), blood and imaging biomarkers of dementia.
Methods: We systematically searched electronic databases from inception to 30 April 2024 for cross-sectional and longitudinal studies, including quantitative data on the association between AoHL and dementia biomarkers.

The surgical management of the periocular region in facial palsy is a critical aspect of addressing the ocular morbidity associated with facial paralysis. The reconstruction around the eye in facial palsy should take into account the duration of the facial palsy and underlying ocular pathologies. Exposure keratopathy can develop secondary to lagophthalmos, ectropion, and brow ptosis.

Introduction Climate change is a major issue facing the global population. Healthcare services, including dentistry, have an obligation to examine current practice and reduce the carbon footprint of their services. Single-use plastics, for example, those used to cover dental equipment, are not necessarily essential for cross-infection purposes.

Pathological tooth wear is a dental problem that affects all age groups and appears to be increasing in prevalence. A subset of these patients may benefit from a combination of orthodontic and restorative care which will be discussed in this article. Orthodontics can help to create the necessary vertical, anterior-posterior and mesio-distal space for restorative work, reducing the need for tooth reduction and lessening the biological costs of restorative care, helping to reposition the gingival margins where this impacts upon aesthetics, as well as correcting co-existing malocclusion.

Importance: The prognosis of idiopathic sudden onset sensorineural hearing loss (iSSNHL) is uncertain, which creates challenges in clinical decision-making for ear, nose, and throat (ENT) physicians and adds to the burden of the condition experienced by patients.
Objective: To develop and internally validate a prognostic model for hearing recovery among patients with iSSNHL to support ENT surgeons in making informed and individualized treatment decisions.
Design, Settings, And Participants: This prognostic study and model used cohort data from the Sudden Onset Sensorineural Hearing Loss study, which included 812 patients (age ≥16 years) diagnosed with iSSNHL at 76 National Health Service ENT departments in the UK from December 2019 to May 2022.

Aim: To explore self-reported dentofacial trauma and their potential endodontic sequelae in boxers using a questionnaire, followed by clinical and radiographic assessment to (1) compare the nature and number of self-reported dentofacial injuries with physical evidence of injury sequelae; and (2) investigate potential risk factors influencing dentofacial trauma and their endodontic sequelae.
Methodology: A focus group validated questionnaire was completed by 176 boxers recruited from 16 London boxing clubs; 61 boxers from this cohort then attended a London dental hospital, for a clinical and radiographic assessment. Data from the questionnaire and clinical assessments were then collated and analysed using Chi-squared or t-tests.

Schwartz Centre Rounds are designed to support staff to reflect on the social and emotional aspects of working in healthcare. Providing healthcare in highly pressurised environments is a common climate in which many healthcare professionals find themselves. To deliver the very best care to patients, both clinical and non-clinical members of the workforce need to be supported to reflect, share their experiences and have a safe space in which they can be heard safely.

Objectives: The incorporation of retromolar bone grafts used for alveolar ridge augmentation is not well understood. This prospective observational study aims to supply histomorphometrical data from bone graft biopsies taken at the time of retrieval and after a 3-month healing period using patient-matched biopsies.
Materials And Methods: In 17 patients, trephine biopsies of the graft were acquired at the time of graft retrieval and after a 3-month healing period.
Aim: To evaluate the changes in periodontal parameters (reduction in probing pocket depth [PPD], gain in clinical attachment level [CAL] and reduction in full-mouth bleeding on probing [BoP]) after subgingival instrumentation of periodontal pockets at different time points in systemically healthy patients suffering from periodontitis.
Materials And Methods: Four databases were searched for RCTs that carried out subgingival instrumentation in periodontal pockets and evaluated PPD at a minimum of two consecutive time points other than baseline. The analysis was conducted for both all pocket depths and stratified for initially shallow (4-5 mm) and deep (≥6 mm) pockets and data were extracted for various time points, 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6 months.

Purpose: This paper reports a life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) to calculate the environmental footprint of a dental appointment using NO, comparing single-use equipment with reusable equipment. Nitrous oxide (NO) is used successfully in dentistry to provide sedation and pain relief to anxious patients, most commonly in children. However, NO is a powerful climate pollutant 298 times more damaging than carbon dioxide over a 100-year estimate.

Supportive periodontal care is an essential component of maintaining the outcome of periodontal treatment. It is essential to ensure cost benefit to both patients and the health services where millions are spent on treating patients with periodontal disease. The dentist must be able to recognise the crucial and important role they play in providing supportive care and therapy to periodontally compromised patients, either independently or as part of a wider dental team, over and above the various challenges they may experience in the provision of such care in general dental practice.

Introduction This paper explores the widely relevant topic of obtaining valid consent in dental practice, focusing on assessing restorability of teeth planned for extraction. The General Dental Council stresses discussing treatment options, benefits and risks for informed decision-making. The study evaluates if pertinent factors, including tooth structure, endodontic status, periodontal health and patient considerations, are considered before consent.

Background: The term 'care-experienced' refers to anyone who is currently in care or has been in care at any stage in their life. A complex interplay of factors leads to care-experienced children and young people (CECYP) experiencing poorer oral health and access to dental care than their peers. A rapid review of the co-production of health and social care research with vulnerable children and young people (CYP) was carried out to inform the development of a co-produced research project exploring the oral health behaviours and access to dental services of CECYP.
