This study presents a novel methodology for high-resolution 3D bladder modeling during filling, developed by leveraging improved imaging and computational techniques. Using murine bladder filling data, the methodology generates accurate 3D geometries across time, enabling in-depth mechanical analysis. Comparison with a traditional spherical model revealed similar stress trends, but the 3D model permitted nuanced quantifications, such as localized surface curvature and stress analysis.

Epidemiological evidence suggests an association between dioxin and dioxin-like compound (DLC) exposure and human liver disease. The prototypical DLC, 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo--dioxin (TCDD), has been shown to induce the progression of reversible hepatic steatosis to steatohepatitis with periportal fibrosis and biliary hyperplasia in mice. Although the effects of TCDD toxicity are mediated by aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) activation, the underlying mechanisms of TCDD-induced hepatotoxicity are unresolved.

As of 2024, SARS-CoV-2 continues to propagate and drift as an endemic virus, impacting healthcare for years. The largest sequencing initiative for any species was initiated to combat the virus, tracking changes over time at a full virus base-pair resolution. The SARS-CoV-2 sequencing represents a unique opportunity to understand selective pressures and viral evolution but requires cross-disciplinary approaches from epidemiology to functional protein biology.

Giant condyloma acuminata (GCA) is a rare, locally aggressive manifestation of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, typically affecting the anorectal area. Patients with GCA often have a poor prognosis due to the high risk of malignant transformation. In this case report, we present a 39-year-old man with HIV who developed progressive and refractory anorectal GCA.

FLOTCH (leukonychia totalis-trichilemmal cysts-ciliary dystrophy syndrome) syndrome is a rare genetic cutaneous disorder primarily characterized by multiple recurrent trichilemmal pilar cysts and leukonychia. It may be associated with ciliary dystrophy, koilonychia, and/or less frequently renal calculi and pancreatitis inherited in an autosomal-dominant fashion. We report the case of a 25-year-old Black woman who presented with white-colored fingernails and enlarging cysts in multiple locations including the scalp, rib cage, and forearm and was diagnosed with suspected FLOTCH syndrome.

This study evaluated the quality and accessibility of the websites of the Spinal Cord Injury Medicine (SCIM) fellowship programs to identify potential areas for improvement for future applicants. Twenty-four SCIM fellowship program websites were analyzed based on 44 predetermined criteria: website accessibility, education, research, recruitment, and incentives. This study found that many evaluated websites needed more information on didactics, educational resources, evaluation criteria, call requirements, schedules, and expected caseloads, which could lead to an incomplete understanding of the fellowship program.

Purpose: To demonstrate the learning curve associated with the arthroscopic Latarjet procedure and create a timetable to proficiency.
Methods: Using retrospective data of a single surgeon, consecutive patients who had an arthroscopic Latarjet procedure performed between December 2015 and May 2021 were initially reviewed for inclusion in the study. Patients were excluded if medical data were insufficient for accurate surgical time record, their surgery was transitioned to open or minimally invasive, or if their surgery was performed in conjunction with a second procedure for a separate issue.

Fractures of the coracoid process are uncommon injuries and are usually the result of high-energy trauma or avulsion-type injuries. Typically coracoid fractures treated with nonoperative management have yielded good results. Operative treatment of coracoid fractures is reserved for a subset of clinical situations, including fracture nonunion.

Radiation cystitis, a long-term bladder defect due to pelvic radiation therapy, results in lower urinary tract symptoms, such as urinary frequency and nocturia, suggestive of compromised bladder compliance. The goal of this study was to identify alterations to the mechanical behavior of the urinary bladder extracellular matrix of a murine model of radiation cystitis, at 3 and 6 months after radiation exposure. The results of this study demonstrated that the extracellular matrix of irradiated bladders was significantly less distensible when compared to age matching controls.

Dermatology has historically been one of the most competitive residencies to match into. One commonly overlooked factor is the importance of having mentors in the field, as they have experience guiding successful applicants and can provide great insight into what residency programs are looking for. Given that many students without home dermatology programs may struggle to find mentors in the field, we share advice on how these students can obtain the mentorship and guidance needed to match into dermatology.
