During the COVID-19 pandemic, access to health services has been considerably restricted and furthermore, patients have been reluctant to attend for routine monitoring, and this may have had a negative impact in the management of patients affected with haematological disorders. Sudden blast crisis in chronic myeloid leukaemia is categorized as a rapid onset of blastic phase, after a documented 'optimal' response to tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) therapy and within 3 months of a normal complete blood count. Herein, we describe a case of patient who developed sudden blast crisis after TKI while in treatment-free remission.

Background: Autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) and novel therapies have improved the prognosis for patients with multiple myeloma (MM). For those who undergo ASCT while on dialysis, a similar survival compared with the overall MM population has been reported. Therefore, for patients achieving remission following ASCT, kidney transplantation is an attractive option, offering an improved quality of life and significant economic advantage.

Dr. Amin is Associate Professor and Head, Division of Pediatric Dentistry, School of Dentistry, University of Alberta, Canada; Ms. Zulla is a PhD candidate, School of Public Health, University of Alberta, Canada; Dr. Gaudet-Amigo is Curriculum Coordinator, School of Dentistry, University of Alberta, Canada; Dr. Patterson is Professor and Associate Chair (Academic), School of Dentistry, University of Alberta, Canada; Dr. Murphy is General Dental Practitioner and Senior Medical House Officer, East Kent Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust, UK; and Dr. Ross is Associate Professor, Department of Family Medicine, University of Alberta, Canada.

At a dental school in Canada, problem-based learning (PBL) sessions were restructured from an integrated dental-medical model to a separate dental model, resulting in three groups of students available for study: those who had participated in the two-year dental and medical combined, the one-year dental and medical combined, the one-year dental alone, and the two-year dental alone. The aim of this qualitative study was to examine the extent to which the PBL structure affected the dental students' perceptions of the learning value of PBL in the different models. A total of 34 first-, second-, and third-year dental students participated in six focus groups in May and June 2011 (34% of students in those total classes).

Proteinuria is a classic sign of kidney disease and its presence carries powerful prognostic information. Although proteinuria testing is enshrined in clinical practice guidelines, there is surprising variation among such guidelines as to the definition of clinically significant proteinuria. There is also poor agreement as to whether proteinuria should be defined in terms of albumin or total protein loss, with a different approach being used to stratify diabetic and non-diabetic nephropathy.
