Background/aims: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are commonly-used medications, and ailments such as arthritis or heart disease, require long-term use of these drugs, which can induce gastroenteropathy with bleeding and ulcers. This study investigated the associations between efficacy, safety, and gastrointestinal symptoms linked to rebamipide and proton pump inhibitor administration in patients requiring long-term NSAID use.
Methods: This study was a multi-center, randomized, open-labeled, pilot design.

Proper medication compliance is critical for the integrity of clinical practice, directly related to the success of clinical trials to evaluate both pharmacological-based and device-based therapies. Here, we established a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method to accurately detect 55 chemical entities in the human urine sample, which accounting for the most commonly used 172 antihypertensive drugs in China. The established method had good accuracy and intraday and interday precision for all analyses in both bench tests and validated in 21 hospitalized patients.

Introduction: Impaired esophageal and gastric motilities are known to contribute to symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). However, there is a lack of GERD therapy, targeting both gastric and esophageal functions. This study was designed to investigate the effects of transcutaneous electrical acustimulation (TEA) on symptoms of GERD and gastroesophageal functions and possible mechanisms in patients with GERD.

Background/aim: Gastric dysmotility is one of pathophysiologies of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of transcutaneous electrical acustimulation (TEA) on gastric accommodation and gastric slow waves, and evaluate possible mechanisms in patients with GERD.
Methods: Thirty patients were studied in two randomized sessions of sham-TEA and TEA with the measurements of esophageal high-resolution manometry (HRM), gastric accommodation assessed by a nutrient-drinking test, electrogastrogram (EGG), electrocardiogram (ECG), and postprandial dyspeptic symptoms.

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are an important cell type present in solid tumor microenvironments, including that of gastric cancer. They play a vital role in the promotion of tumorigenesis, angiogenesis, and cancer progression through paracrine signaling and modulation of the extracellular matrix. However, the exact molecular mechanism underlying the interaction between gastric cancer cells and stromal fibroblasts remains poorly understood.

It was well known that cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) were an essential factor in tumor progression. However, the actual mechanism of stromal fibroblasts activation and tumor promoting effects remain unclear. Here, we showed that KLF5 expression was more frequently observed in gastric cancer-associated fibroblasts compared with normal mucosal fibroblasts.

Objective: This study is conducted to investigate whether mucosolvan may offer therapy optimization initiatives for airway perioperative management of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in fast track surgery (FTS).
Patients And Methods: The patients in FTS were treated with and without aerosol (90 mg/day) of mucosolvan in combination of intravenous administration of the agent (180 mg/day) for 8 consecutive days. Postoperative complications and length of time of hospital stay were examined in the patients treated with and without mucosolvan.

Objectives: To investigate the clinical application of the fast track surgery (FTS) model based on preoperative nutritional risk screening (NRS) in patients with esophageal cancer.
Methods: 180 patients with esophageal cancer who underwent surgery between January 2008 and April 2014 were randomly divided into study and control groups based on matched-pairs. The study group underwent assessment using the NRS 2002 and received treatment before surgery and the control group was treated by the conventional method.
