Background Asthma affects millions of patients worldwide. The Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) emphasizes the need for individualized treatment based on symptoms and risk of exacerbations. The Asthma Control Test (ACT) is a well-validated tool and considered standard-of-care for assessing asthma control.

Objectives: Delays in acute stroke treatment lead to poor outcomes. Women can present with atypical stroke symptoms, are older at the time of stroke, and tend to be living alone, causing delays in pre-hospital diagnosis and seeking care. It is unclear if gender disparities in ED arrival and stroke assessment are compounded by gender differences after ED arrival.

Background: The obesity paradox in patients with coronary artery disease is well established, but the role of the metabolic syndrome associated with obesity is not well studied. Our study aims to evaluate the in-hospital outcomes of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in metabolically healthy individuals with obesity (MHO) and metabolically unhealthy (MUHO) individuals with obesity over 65 years of age with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) between 2016 and 2020.

Methods: This was a retrospective and observational study.

Reports of parental dissatisfaction from incomplete or inconsistent information led to a quality improvement (QI) project to establish planned family conferences at 10 days and 1 month of life, for 50% of the medically complex neonates admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit within 1 year. A QI team instituted a system in which social workers scheduled family conferences and a neonatologist conducted the conferences. Team members tracked measures using statistical process control charts over 21 months.

Syphilis is an infectious disease caused by . Often known as the "great imitator," it has periods of active disease and periods of latency. Serologic syphilis testing can be divided into treponemal and non-treponemal tests, and multiple tests are required to prove infection.

Key Clinical Message: Legionnaires' disease, often presenting as pneumonia, can uncommonly manifest with extrapulmonary symptoms such as cerebellar involvement and rhabdomyolysis. This case emphasizes the successful resolution of dysarthria and renal dysfunction with prompt Legionella treatment, underscoring the importance of vigilance for diverse manifestations in Legionella infections.

Abstract: Legionnaires' disease usually presents with pneumonia and a few extrapulmonary manifestations, such as neurological, musculoskeletal, and cutaneous manifestations.

We present the case of a 59-year-old African American female with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) who presented to the emergency department with chest discomfort. She had a coronary angiogram six months ago that showed no occlusive epicardial coronary artery disease. She had elevated troponin I levels and new regional wall motion abnormalities on echocardiogram.

Background: Neonates affected by isoimmune hemolytic disease (HDN) are at risk of developing severe hyperbilirubinemia. Studies show that increasing levels of bilirubin impact neonatal neurodevelopment. To avoid complications associated with exchange transfusion, intravenous immunoglobulin G (IVIG) is used to treat hyperbilirubinemia.

Focal left ventricular outflow tract ventricular tachycardia (LVOT-VT) is rarely reported following transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Similarly, unexplained sudden cardiac death after TAVR also is rarely described and may be attributed to VT. We present two cases of patients who underwent TAVR and later presented with VT of suggested LVOT origin.

Introduction: Daptomycin doses 8-12 mg/kg are recommended for susceptible dose-dependent Enterococcus species. However, data remain limited on safety outcomes of such dosing, compared to standard 4-6 mg/kg dosing.

Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, patients were stratified into daptomycin standard-dose (≤ 6.

Objectives: Evaluate deep learning (DL) to improve the image quality of the PROPELLER (Periodically Rotated Overlapping Parallel Lines with Enhanced Reconstruction technique) for 3 T magnetic resonance imaging of the female pelvis.

Methods: Three radiologists prospectively and independently compared non-DL and DL PROPELLER sequences from 20 patients with a history of gynecologic malignancy. Sequences with different noise reduction factors (DL 25%, DL 50%, and DL 75%) were blindly reviewed and scored based on artifacts, noise, relative sharpness, and overall image quality.

Background And Aims: While the association of potato consumption with risk factors for coronary artery disease has been inconsistent, no data are available in the literature on the influence of potato consumption on subclinical disease. Thus, we sought to examine whether baked/mashed potato consumption is associated with calcified atherosclerotic plaques in the coronary arteries.

Methods And Results: In a cross-sectional design, we studied 2208 participants of the NHLBI Family Heart Study.

Following the results observed in the DAPA-HF trial and subsequent FDA approval of dapagliflozin in patients living with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), numerous trials quickly began to assess the effects of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) in a wide range of cardiovascular (CV) conditions. Since the publication of those findings, multiple SGLT2i have demonstrated benefit in patients regardless of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF)-allowing the drug class to establish itself within the first line of guideline-directed medication therapy. Although the full mechanistic properties of SGLT2i in heart failure (HF) have yet to be fully understood, benefits in other disease states have continued to emerge over the past decade.

In the United States, gunshot wounds (GSWs) have become a critical public health concern with substantial annual morbidity, disability, and mortality. Vascular injuries associated with GSW may pose a clinical challenge to the physicians in the emergency department. Patients demonstrating hard signs require immediate intervention, whereas patients with soft signs can undergo further diagnostic testing for better injury delineation.

Early detection of gynecological malignancies is vital for patient management and prolonging the patient's survival. Molecular imaging, such as positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography, has been increasingly utilized in gynecological malignancies. PET/magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) enables the assessment of gynecological malignancies by combining the metabolic information of PET with the anatomical and functional information from MRI.

Penetrating vascular injury has become the topic of interest with increased gun violence in the United States. The radiologist plays a crucial role in establishing and systemizing the signs of vascular injury such as intimal flap, dissection, pseudoaneurysm, rupture, and arteriovenous fistula. Various imaging techniques such as ultrasound Doppler, computed tomographic angiography (CTA), magnetic resonance angiography, and conventional angiography are being employed based on clinical recommendations.
