Factors influencing the prescription of add-on long-acting muscarinic antagonists in real-world asthma management: Insights from a national registry.

Current guidelines recommend adding long-acting muscarinic antagonists (LAMAs) in patients with uncontrolled asthma, despite the use of moderate to high doses of inhaled steroid-long-acting beta agonists (ICS/LABA). This study aims to analyze the factors related to the prescription of add-on LAMA in clinical practice for asthma patients, shedding light on physicians' preferences. This study included adult asthma patients on add-on LAMA and ICS/LABA monitored for at least one year in a national registry comprising 2053 asthmatics.

Efficacy of Levothyroxine Sodium Soft Gelatin Capsules in Thyroidectomized Patients Taking Proton Pump Inhibitors: An Open-Label Study.

Treatment with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and antacids affects the gastrointestinal absorption of levothyroxine sodium (LT4) tablets. Patients with hypothyroidism taking LT4 and PPIs or antacids, thus, require appropriate monitoring. The objective of this study was to determine whether a soft gelatin capsule of LT4 (Tirosint) would obviate the effect of PPIs on LT4 absorption.

The Effect of Hormone Replacement Treatment on Hearing Function in Hypothyroid Patients.

However, the effect of acquired hypothyroidism and hormone replacement treatment (HRT) on hearing function is still controversial. This study aimed to investigate hearing impairment and the effect of HRT on hearing function in patients with acquired hypothyroidism.

Electrical promontory stimulation test using a portable peripheral nerve stimulator with an ear canal electrode.

Objective: An intact cochlear nerve is necessary for successful cochlear implantation (CI). Although the promontory stimulation test (PST) using a promontory stimulator (PS) and a transtympanic needle electrode is invasive, it is still commonly used to verify cochlear nerve function. PSs are currently unavailable because they are no longer manufactured; however, considering that PST continues to be beneficial in certain situations, alternative equipment is needed.

Picturing asthma in Turkey: results from the Turkish adult asthma registry.

Introduction: National data on asthma characteristics and the factors associated with uncontrolled asthma seem to be necessary for every country. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect of wearing a face mask on word recognition in hearing-impaired listeners.

Design: Word recognition scores were obtained in quiet and in different signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs 0, +5, and +10 dB) using two listening conditions (with N95 mask and with no-mask).

Mutations in the OTOF gene are a common cause of hereditary hearing loss and the main cause of auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (ANSD). Although it is reported that most of the patients with OTOF mutations have stable, congenital or prelingual onset severe-to-profound hearing loss, some patients show atypical clinical phenotypes, and the genotype-phenotype correlation in patients with OTOF mutations is not yet fully understood. Cross-Cultural Adaptation and Validation of the Vocal Fatigue Index into Persian.

Introduction: The aim of the present study was the cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the Vocal Fatigue Index (VFI) in Persian.

Methods: The English version of the VFI was translated to Persian using the guidelines of International Quality of Life Assessment. Eighty participants with voice disorders and 50 healthy controls without any voice disorders completed the Persian version of the VFI.

Influenza vaccine showed a good preventive effect against influenza-associated hospitalization among elderly patients, during the 2016/17 season in Japan.

The 2016/17 influenza season in Japan was characterized by a predominance of influenza A (H3N2) activity; with H3N2 accounting for 85% of all detected influenza virus infections. We assessed the vaccine effectiveness (VE) of an inactivated quadrivalent influenza vaccine (IIV4) in adult patients, using a test-negative case-control design study based on the results of a rapid influenza diagnostic test (RIDT).
