Delayed Onset Perinasal Mucocele Cyst in a Patient With Remote History of Orofacial Cleft Repair.

Nasoalveolar cysts are rare, nonodontogenic cysts with a subtle course that can lead to nasal deformity and, uncommonly, nasal airway obstruction. Herein the authors present the case of a 28-year-old male who presented with a recurrent left-sided nasoalveolar cyst. Upon presentation, this cyst had formed a significant alar defect and was obstructing the left nasal airway.

Tonsil explants as a human model to study vaccine responses.

Introduction: Vaccination is one of the most effective infection prevention strategies. Viruses with high mutation rates -such as influenza- escape vaccine-induced immunity and represent significant challenges to vaccine design. Influenza vaccine strain selection is based on circulating strains and immunogenicity testing in animal models with limited predictive outcomes for vaccine effectiveness in humans.

The right lymphatic duct: basic anatomy and clinical relevance.

The anatomical variability of the thoracic duct and the right lymphatic duct predisposes them to inadvertent damage following head and neck surgery thereby leading to chyle leak which is an uncommon complication with potentially significant associated morbidity. Although chyle leak is predominately associated with left-sided neck surgery, it also occurs as a complication of the right-sided neck dissection. Variable figures concerning chyle leakage after right-sided neck dissections were reported, ranging from 0 per cent to higher prevalences such as 14%, 24%, 33% and 60% of total cases of chyle leakages associated with neck surgery.

Long-Term Results of Sodium 2-Mercaptoethane Sulfonate Usage on Cholesteatoma Surgery.

Although advanced technologies and surgical procedures are used, cholesteatoma is a disease with the possibility of recurrence. The aim of this study was to determine the long-term effect of sodium 2-mercaptoethane sulfonate (MESNA) on cholesteatoma surgery. Patients who underwent cholesteatoma surgery between January 2009 and July 2014 by the same surgeon were divided into 2 groups: those where MESNA was used and those where it was not.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate that complicated mucoceles of paranasal sinuses and their clinical presentation, complications of relations with size, destructions areas, extension limits in affected patients.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective review was performed on patients who were diagnosed and treated as paranasal sinus mucoceles at ENT department from 2002 to 2013 years. Patients' demographic data, mucoceles location, symptoms, surgical approach and complications were evaluated.

High Cardio-Ankle Vascular Index Values in Idiopathic Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss Patients Indicate Better Prognosis.

Objective: Vascular disorders and viral infections are the presumed etiologies of idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSNHL) and acute sensorineural hearing loss, with no identifiable cause. However, no clinical test for estimating the extent of vascular involvement in ISSNHL has been reported despite its potential impact on prognosis and treatment. We investigated the correlation between the cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI), which reflects arterial stiffness and elasticity, and hearing improvement to ascertain its usefulness as an additional indicator of ISSNHL prognosis and etiology.

Higher Cardio-Ankle Vascular Index Values in Patients With Vestibular Neuritis May Indicate a Better Prognosis.

Background: The presumed etiology of vestibular neuritis (VN), a sudden onset of spontaneous vertigo without auditory or cranial nerve symptoms, includes viral infections and vascular disorders. However, no clinical test for estimating vascular disorders in VN has been reported. Moreover, estimating the etiology of VN is important to predict the prognosis and select appropriate treatment.

Background: Little is known whether sublingual immunotherapy using Japanese cedar pollen extract (cedar SLIT) is effective for not only Japanese cedar pollinosis but also Japanese cypress pollinosis. We investigated the prevalence rate of Japanese cypress pollinosis, efficacy of cedar SLIT on cypress pollinosis and patients' wish to receive cypress SLIT.

Methods: We investigated a multi-center (31 institutions), cross-sectional survey using a self-administrated questionnaire with four questions for patients received cedar SLIT aged from 5 to 69 years old.

Primary localized laryngeal amyloidosis is a rare presentation of amyloid deposition. A case of 22 years old male presented with progressive hoarseness of voice and supraglottic mass on laryngoscopy reported here. Complete excision of mass was done using Coblator wand.

Static and dynamic postural control of postpartum women of different delivery methods.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine whether there is a difference in postural control between nulligravida women and women who have given birth by vaginal or cesarean section.

Methods: Women who had only vaginal delivery in the previous 1-3 years were included in the vaginal delivery group (n = 27), those who had only cesarean delivery in the previous 1-3 years were included in the cesarean section group (n = 28), and those who had never given birth were included in the control group (n = 32). Evaluations were administered 6-8 days after the ovulation phase.

Effect of erythritol and xylitol on Streptococcus pyogenes causing peritonsillar abscesses.

Polyols are effective against caries-causing streptococci but the effect on oropharynx-derived pyogenic streptococci is not well characterised. We aimed to study the effect of erythritol (ERY) and xylitol (XYL) against Streptococcus pyogenes isolated from peritonsillar abscesses (PTA). We used 31 clinical isolates and 5 throat culture collection strains.

The Effects of Intervening With Synonasal Changes on Headaches in Migraine Patients Using Endonasal Surgery.

Objective: Some anatomical changes might trigger headaches in people who have migraine, and that surgical applications eliminating the structural problems in treatment-resistant migraine patients are effective in pain treatment.

Methods: A total of 36 patients, who did not respond to different treatment options without aura migraine and chronic migraine that were showing synonasal and anatomical changes in synonasal nasal endoscopy and/or paranasal sinus CT screening, responding insufficiently and/or approximately one year period also did not respond to different treatment options, were included in this study between June 2016 and September 2019.

Results: The relation between migraine episodes and synonasal symptoms was found to be statistically significant.

Correlation between dysphonia and dysphagia evolution in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients.

Materials And Methods: Between March 2017 and February 2018, 27 newly diagnoses patients (about 2 months) were examined in the ENT Clinic of our University Hospital. The bulbar-onset of ALS was diagnosed by neurologists.

Results: According to the endoscopic and clinical results, patients were classified in 4 classes of dysphagia.

Quarantine is separation of persons who have been exposed to an infection but asymptomatic, while isolation is separation of infected patients. In-Office Tympanostomy Tube Placement Using Iontophoresis and Automated Tube Delivery Systems.

Objectives: Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS) is a widely used and best-validated scale for assessing daytime sleepiness, including dozing when sitting quietly after a lunch (no alcohol). This study introduces a novel screen test called postprandial oximetry test (POT) used during daytime.

Comprehensive analysis of syndromic hearing loss patients in Japan.

More than 400 syndromes associated with hearing loss and other symptoms have been described, corresponding to 30% of cases of hereditary hearing loss. In this study we aimed to clarify the mutation spectrum of syndromic hearing loss patients in Japan by using next-generation sequencing analysis with a multiple syndromic targeted resequencing panel (36 target genes). We analyzed single nucleotide variants, small insertions, deletions and copy number variations in the target genes.

Peritonsillar abscess is frequently accompanied by sepsis symptoms.

Purpose: To evaluate how many patients with peritonsillar abscess (PTA) fulfill sepsis criteria and if there is any difference in risk factors and treatment results between patients with and without sepsis symptoms. We also aimed to evaluate the utility of several clinical and laboratory markers for diagnosing PTA.

Methods: Study group consisted of 92 patients with PTA undergoing bilateral emergency tonsillectomy.
