Utilizing single-cell transcriptome sequencing (scRNA-seq) technology, this study explores the viability of employing mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) as a therapeutic approach for age-related hearing loss (ARHL). The research demonstrates MSCs' ability to differentiate into inner ear cell subpopulations, particularly hair cells, delivering Apelin via extracellular vesicles (EVs) to promote M2 macrophage polarization. In vitro experiments show reduced inflammation and preservation of hair cell health.

Importance: There is a lack of high level of evidence studies comparing the effect of different treatment options for single-sided deafness (SSD).
Objective: To determine the effect of a cochlear implant (CI), bone conduction device (BCD), contralateral routing of signals hearing aid (CROS), and no treatment on speech perception in noise outcomes in patients with SSD.
Design, Setting, And Participants: In this single-center randomized clinical trial, adult patients with SSD were randomized into 3 groups: CI; a trial period with first a BCD on a headband and then a CROS; or a trial period with first a CROS and then a BCD on a headband.

Background: Nasopharyngeal malignant tumors were relatively rare head and neck tumors with a low global incidence. There were various pathologic types of nasopharyngeal malignant tumors, and small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (SCNEC) was a highly malignant subtype with rapid growth and early metastasis. SCNEC was rare in the nasopharynx, and its clinical presentation and treatment strategy were different from other types of nasopharyngeal malignancies, posing a challenge to clinicians.

The aim of the study is to comprehensively examine the composition and localization of the auricle in formalin-fixed human fetuses during the second and third trimesters of the antenatal period. Ninety-seven auricles were evaluated (33 females and 31 males in the second, and 22 females and 11 males in the third trimester). Nine morphometric dimensions were directly measured from auricles.

Methods: In vitro experiments were conducted using immortalized normal human corneal endothelial cells (HCEnC-21T; SVN1-67F) and Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) cells (SVF5-54F; SVF3-76M). Cells were pretreated with MitoQ or Idb and then exposed to menadione (MN) with simultaneous antioxidant treatment.

Introduction: Fishhook injuries are a common occurrence among anglers. There are no guidelines for prophylactic antibiotic use after fishhook removal. This study analyzed the management of embedded fishhooks, prophylactic antibiotic use, and complication rate at a Michigan county emergency department to observe whether antibiotic use changes patient outcome.

Background: The incidence of spontaneous CSF otorrhea is increasing and knowledge about treatment management is growing.
Objectives: To analyse the cases operated the middle cranial fossa approach (MCFA) for spontaneous CSF otorrhea in our clinic and to evaluate the long-term surgical results in the light of the literature.
Methods: Demographic data, presenting complaints, complications, hearing outcomes, recurrence rates and long-term success of patients operated with MCFA between 2012 and 2022 in our tertiary care centre were evaluated.

Objective: Oculoauriculovertebral spectrum (OAVS) encompasses abnormalities on derivatives from the first and second pharyngeal arches including macrostomia, hemifacial microsomia, micrognathia, preauricular tags, ocular, and vertebral anomalies. We present genetic findings on a 3-generation family affected with macrostomia, preauricular tags and ptosis following an autosomal dominant pattern.
Design: We generated whole-genome sequencing data for the proband, affected father, and unaffected paternal grandmother followed by Sanger sequencing on 23 family members for the top candidate gene mutations.

squamous cell carcinoma is a recently recognized entity characterized by a non-viral-related non-keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma with chromosomal rearrangement between on 6p22.3 and on Xq28. This neoplasm is associated with an aggressive clinical behavior, particularly regarding local recurrences and distant metastases even with its deceptively bland histomorphology.

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterized by itching and redness, affecting individuals of all ages and significantly impairing their quality of life. The prevalence of AD is rising, posing serious health concern. Relief of itching is a primary treatment objective; however, steroid treatments can lead to adverse effects, including skin barrier thinning.

Unlabelled: The concept of genome-microbiome interactions, in which the microenvironment determined by host genetic polymorphisms regulates the local microbiota, is important in the pathogenesis of human disease. In otolaryngology, the resident bacterial microbiota is reportedly altered in non-infectious ear diseases, such as otitis media pearls and exudative otitis media. We hypothesized that a single-nucleotide polymorphism in the ATP-binding cassette sub-family C member 11 () gene, which determines earwax properties, regulates the ear canal microbiota.

We hypothesized that active outer hair cells drive cochlear fluid circulation. The hypothesis was tested by delivering the neurotoxin, kainic acid, to the intact round window of young gerbil cochleae while monitoring auditory responses in the cochlear nucleus. Sounds presented at a modest level significantly expedited kainic acid delivery.

An animal's body mass is said to be indirectly related to its rate of heat loss; that is, smaller animals with higher surface area to volume tend to lose heat faster than larger animals. Thus, thermoregulation should be related to body size, however, generalizable patterns are still unclear. Domestic dogs are a diverse species of endothermic mammals, including a 44-fold difference in body size.

Keloids are characterized by excessive growth of fibrous tissue resulting from abnormal wound-healing processes. They may lead to functional impairments, aesthetic deformities, pruritus, and a decreased quality of life. Various therapies, including intralesional corticosteroid injections, cryotherapy, laser therapy, surgical excision, and radiotherapy, have been used to manage keloids, but the recurrence rates remain high.

Background: The objective of this report is to present a case of two cervical spine artificial discs (Bryan Cervical Disk) that completely disappeared within 6 months as a result of a high-energy trauma more than 10 years after the initial surgery. Implant dislocation is a known complication in artificial cervical disc replacement. However, this report presents the case of an exceptional migration path with esophageal ingrowth and rectal excretion, not only for one artificial disc but for two at different times It highlights the need for long-term follow-up examinations after artificial cervical disc arthroplasty (ACDA).
