Vestibular dysfunction has been reported as a potential cause in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). However, it remained unclear how stochastic galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS) affected kinetic performance of patients with AIS. This study aimed to investigate the effect of stochastic GVS on ground reaction forces (GRF) measures during obstacle negotiation among patients with AIS.

Purpose: Cochlear implants (CI) are the most successful bioprosthesis in medicine probably due to the tonotopic anatomy of the auditory pathway and of course the brain plasticity. Correct placement of the CI arrays, respecting the inner ear anatomy are therefore important. The ideal trajectory to insert a cochlear implant array is defined by an entrance through the round window membrane and continues as long as possible parallel to the basal turn of the cochlea.

Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic potential of spontaneous otoacoustic emissions (SOAE), distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE), and pure-tone audiometry (PTA) in patients with pulsatile tinnitus (PT) caused by sigmoid sinus wall anomalies (SSWA).
Methods: This study included 20 PT patients and 20 matched healthy controls. SOAE, DPOAE, and PTA were assessed before and after compression of the internal jugular vein.

Purpose: Evaluate the feasibility and safety of a robotic electrode insertion in pediatric cochlear implantation and compare the results with manually inserted electrodes in the same subject.
Methods: Retrospective case series review of four children who underwent bilateral cochlear implantation with the same array: on one side, the array was inserted using the robot, while on the other side the array was inserted manually. Behavioural and electrophysiological measures were compared.

Background: Subjective tinnitus is characterized by perception of sound in the absence of any external or internal acoustic stimuli. Many approaches have been developed over the years to treat tinnitus (medical and nonmedical). However, no consensus has been reached on the optimal therapeutic approach.

Purpose: Scanning during infancy is often required in otology, preferably without general anaesthesia. This study aims to determine the success rate of MRI of the head without general anaesthesia for infants, and to identify predictors for a successful scan.
Methods: Data was extracted from the electronic patient file for patients who received MRI of the head without general anaesthesia between 01-01-2019 and 31-12-2022 at an age younger than 6 months.

Bruch´s membrane (BM) is firmly connected posteriorly to the optic nerve head through the peripapillary choroidal border tissue, and anteriorly through the longitudinal ciliary muscle to the scleral spur. We assessed, whether a difference in the contractile state of the ciliary muscle influences the position of the posterior BM by lifting the posterior BM pole, i.e.

Feline aural inflammatory polyps originate from the tympanic bulla and less frequently from the auditory tube, representing the most common benign tumor of the feline ear. Clinical signs may be compatible with otitis externa, media, and/or interna with rare occurrences involving meningoencephalitis or abscessation of periauricular tissue. Traction and avulsion is an effective treatment procedure with a relatively low recurrence rate, especially when systemic glucocorticoids are given after polyp removal.

Proliferative and necrotizing otitis externa (PNOE) is characterized by thick, adherent dark red, brown, or black crusts. It most commonly affects the concave pinnae and vertical ear canals bilaterally. Lesions may also be seen on the face, and it may rarely present in a generalized form.

Background And Purpose: Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) are the most common causes of chronic sinusitis from systemic granulomatous diseases. While both are small- to medium-sized vasculitis with necrotizing granulomas, they have different clinical courses and prognoses. High-density sinus opacification has been reported in allergic fungal sinusitis with eosinophilic infiltrates.

A panel of 21 international experts are formed by the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-retina Society to work out the consensus and guidelines on polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV). PCV is a common subtype of neovascular age-related macular degeneration and is more prevalent in Asian populations. Recent advancement in imaging technology allows greater understanding of the disease process of PCV.

Infections by non-O1/non-O139 serogroups of Vibrio cholerae (NOVC) are increasing worldwide. Infected patients usually display self-limiting diarrhoea or external ear and wound infections. We present a rare case of bacteraemia secondary to NOVC infection.

Cisplatin-induced ototoxicity is attributed to the aberrant accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) within the inner ear. Antioxidants represented by α-lipoic acid (ALA) have been demonstrated to scavenge ROS in the cochlea, while effective delivery of these agents in vivo remains a major challenge. Here, a novel polydopamine (PDA) nanogel decorated adhesive and responsive hierarchical microcarriers for controllable is presented ALA delivery and deafness prevention.

Purpose: Prior work estimating sound exposure dose from earphone use has typically measured earphone use time with retrospective questionnaires or device-based tracking, both of which have limitations. This research note presents an exploratory analysis of sound exposure dose from earphone use among college-aged adults using real-ear measures to estimate exposure level and ecological momentary assessment (EMA) to estimate use time.
Method: Earphone levels were measured at the ear drum of 53 college students using their own devices, earphones, and preferred music and speech stimuli at their normal listening volume.

Otitis media (OM) is a prevalent childhood ear disease characterized by inflammation of the middle ear cavity, which can lead to ear pain, fever, and hearing loss. The pathogenesis of OM is multifaceted, encompassing a variety of factors including bacterial or viral infections, host immune responses, and the function of middle ear epithelial cells. Boswellic acid (BA), a natural triterpene compound extracted from frankincense resin, has been proven to possess significant anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects.

Purpose Of Review: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a leading cause of death and disability across the world. We sought to investigate the prevalence and clinical presentation of ocular injuries in IPV.
Recent Findings: Literature review revealed 16 published studies that evaluated ocular injuries in IPV, of which the study types included 9 retrospective studies, 2 prospective, 1 review, 1 invited commentary, 2 case reports, and 1 population-based cross-sectional survey.
Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) presents as the abrupt onset of hearing loss. Approximately 88% of SSNHL has no identifiable etiology and is termed idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSHL). Hearing specialists have investigated ISSHL since the 1970s.

Middle ear barotrauma (MEBT) is the most common complication in providing hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO). This study explored the impact of altering the shape of the time-pressure curve with the aim of reducing the occurrence of MEBT and optimizing the HBO experience during the pressurization process. Four distinct mathematically derived protocols-Constant Pressure Difference (CPD), Constant Volume Difference (CVD), Constant Ratio (CR), and Inverted Constant Ratio (ICR)-were investigated using computer simulations on a simple ear model.

Focusing on a single source within a complex auditory scene is challenging. M/EEG-based auditory attention detection (AAD) allows to detect which stream an individual is attending to within a set of multiple concurrent streams. The high interindividual variability in the auditory attention detection performance often is attributed to physiological factors and signal-to-noise ratio of neural data.
