Laparoscopic surgery has now become the gold standard in managing most surgical cases. Despite its advantages, working hours and in-theatre training restrictions have prompted trainees to explore alternatives like virtual reality (VR) simulations and box training. Furthermore, given the increased frequency of minimally invasive surgery and the prevalence of musculoskeletal issues among surgeons, there's a growing effort to optimize ergonomics.

Exploring links between oral health and infective endocarditis.

Infective endocarditis (IE) is a bacterial infection of the heart's inner lining. A low incidence rate combined with a high mortality rate mean that IE can be difficult to treat effectively. There is currently substantial evidence supporting a link between oral health and IE with the oral microbiome impacting various aspects of IE, including pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, and mortality rates.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most common solid malignancy in men in the UK. Pleomorphic giant cell carcinoma (PGCC) is a rare, aggressive variant of prostate adenocarcinoma. Aim: The primary objective was to assess the relationship between the citation number and the quality of the articles, as compared with the level of evidence and the MINORS score. An Extremely Rare Presentation of Mucinous Adenocarcinoma Originating From Meckel Diverticulum Masquerading in a Young Woman With Crohn's Disease.

Mucinous adenocarcinoma with signet cell features originating from Meckel diverticulum (MD) is an extremely rare primary malignant tumor. A woman in her 30s presented with multiple episodes of vomiting, abdominal pain, and constipation. She had a history of stricturing Crohn's disease and managed well with steroids, azathioprine, and infliximab.

'Stumped' by stump appendicitis-a case report and literature review.

Stump appendicitis, a rare postoperative complication of appendicectomy, is inflammation of the remnant appendix tissue due to incomplete removal of the appendix at the index operation. Due to a past surgical history of appendicectomy, there is often a diagnostic delay. This delay can result in increased morbidity and mortality for patients.

Complications Following Short Femoral Nail Fixation for Intertrochanteric Hip Fractures: A Retrospective Study.

The incidence of proximal femur fractures is increasing due to aging of the population. Intramedullary nails are the mainstay of treatment for intertrochanteric hip fractures mainly due to their better biomechanical properties compared to dynamic hip screw devices, shorter operative time, and less blood loss during surgery. However intramedullary nail fixation is not devoid of complications.

Application of Biomarkers in Obese Infertile Women: A Genetic Tool for a Personalized Treatment.

This study investigates links between CART and leptin gene expression, FSH receptor Asn680Ser polymorphism, and reproductive hormones in morbidly obese patients under 40 years old, facing infertility, and undergoing bariatric surgery. A total of 29 women were included in this study. A hormonal profile along with detection of CART and leptin gene expression was evaluated before and after bariatric surgery.

Can the introduction of a 12-lead ECG help reduce mortality in those presenting with foot ulceration to multidisciplinary diabetic foot clinics? An observational evaluation of a real-world implementation pilot in England.

Aims/hypothesis: The risk of dying within 2 years of presentation with diabetic foot ulceration is over six times the risk of amputation, with CVD the major contributor. Using an observational evaluation of a real-world implementation pilot, we aimed to assess whether for those presenting with diabetic foot ulceration in England, introducing a 12-lead ECG into routine care followed by appropriate clinical action was associated with reduced mortality.

Methods: Between July 2014 and December 2017, ten multidisciplinary diabetic foot services in England participated in a pilot project introducing 12-lead ECGs for new attendees with foot ulceration.
