Heart failure (HF) is a clinical syndrome that is divided into 3 subtypes based on the left ventricular ejection fraction. Every subtype has specific clinical characteristics and concomitant diseases, substantially increasing risk of thromboembolic complications, such as stroke, peripheral embolism and pulmonary embolism. Despite the annual prevalence of 1% and devastating clinical consequences, thromboembolic complications are not typically recognized as the leading problem in patients with HF, representing an underappreciated clinical challenge.

The aim of the study was to assess drug adherence, as well as association of psychological factors with both drug adherence and severity of hypertension in two subtypes of patients with apparently treatment-resistant hypertension (ATRH): younger patients with uncomplicated hypertension (YURHTN) versus patients ≥60-year-old and/or with a history of cardio- or cerebrovascular complication (OCRHTN). Drug adherence was assessed in urine by targeted Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry. The severity of hypertension was assessed by 24-h ambulatory blood pressure adjusted for the number of antihypertensive drugs and for drug adherence.

Attractor reconstruction is a new way to quantify the morphology of a cardiovascular waveform by plotting all data points in the three-dimensional phase space, generating a trajectory of overlapping loops. The aim of this study is to show the feasibility of an automatic approach to quantify pulse wave attractors from a device-guided breathing study, and to link attractor features to pulse waveform features. The recently developed feature extraction technique is applied to arterial pulse waveform data of 30 patients with treated hypertension.

Despite widespread investigation into the incidence of acute myocardial infarction during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and associated lockdown, no study has examined the situation's impact on blood pressure (BP) levels. Measurements of BP and heart rate (HR) were obtained from persons living in the Paris urban area using connected home BP monitors (accessible to patients and health providers through a secured server). Three time periods of e-health recordings were compared: during the pandemic before the lockdown, during the lockdown, and the same time period in 2019.

The present demographic changes toward an aging society caused a rise in the number of senior citizens and the incidence and burden of age-related diseases (such as cardiovascular diseases [CVD], cancer, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease [NAFLD], diabetes mellitus, and dementia), of which nearly half is attributable to the population ≥60 years of age. Deficiencies in individual nutrients have been associated with increased risks for age-related diseases and high intakes and/or blood concentrations with risk reduction. Nutrition in general and the dietary intake of essential and nonessential biofactors is a major determinant of human health, the risk to develop age-related diseases, and ultimately of mortality in the older population.

Purpose: The relationship between 100% fruit juice (100%FJ) consumption and cardiovascular risk is object of debate: indeed, recently published investigations provided new but discrepant evidence on this important question and International dietary guidelines are not in agreement on recommendations about fruit juice consumption. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis of the prospective studies and the randomised controlled trials (RCTs) that explored the relationship between 100%FJ intake, cardiovascular risk profile and risk of cardiovascular events.
Methods: We performed a systematic search of publications up to August 2019.

Background: Nutraceuticals represent a new therapeutic frontier in the treatment of metabolic syndrom (MetS) and related cardiovascular risk factors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential beneficial effects of Armolipid Plus (AP) (berberine 500 mg, red yest rice, monacolin K 3 mg and policosanol 10 mg) on insulin resistance, lipid profile, particularly on small and dense LDL cholesterol (sdLDL-C), representing the most atherogenic components, as well as its effects on high sensitivity C-reactive protein, a notable marker of cardiovascular risk, blood pressure and cardiac remodeling in subjects affected by MetS, with left ventricular hypertrophy.
Methods: The study was a prospective, multi-center, randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled trial.
