This study aimed to determine the infection status, exercise habits, anxiety levels, and sleep quality in Chinese residents who recovered from infection during the period of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) period. It also aimed to investigate the influencing factors of recovery status and aid in improving intervention measures for COVID-19 recovery. This study is a sub-study nested within a cross-sectional investigation of infection and physical and mental health among partially recovered residents in all 34 provincial areas of China during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Delayed luminescence (DL) refers to the photon-induced ultra-weak luminescence emitted by samples after the light source is switched off. As a noninvasive method for health monitoring and disease diagnosis, DL has attracted increasing attention. The further development of this technology is valuable for the study of complex biological processes, such as different growth stages.

Background: The biophysical properties of the meridian system, an important concept of traditional Chinese medicine, include low impedance, resounding voice, and high acoustic conductance, all of which are helpful for elucidating the essence of meridians.
Objectives: To visualize the human pericardium meridian (PC) based on the resounding voice property of meridians.
Methods: Visualization of the PC was performed by injection of fluorescein sodium at the PC6 acupoint (Neiguan) on the PC.
Body constitution in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) refers to the holistic and relatively durable state of an individual, based on the qi and blood assessment, and TCM syndrome is defined as the theoretical abstraction of disease-symptom profiles. The biological basis as related to mitochondria, which produce most of the cellular energy, has not been well studied. This study aimed to elucidate the association of mitochondrial function with TCM body constitution and cold syndrome.

Objective: Written words demonstrated specific effects on biochemical measures and cell growth in cultured mammalian cells in previous study. We examined the protection and reparative effects of Chinese texts with positive meaning and the word "Buddha" on oxidative-damaged cells, with the goal of exploring the therapeutic effect of such characters.
Methods: The human embryonic kidney cell line HEK293T was utilized, with the oxidative- damaged cell model produced by hydrogen peroxide (HO).

Kynurenic acid (KYNA) is an important bio-active product of tryptophan metabolism. In addition to its well-known neuroprotective effects on mental health disorders, it has been proposed as a bio-marker for such metabolic diseases as atherosclerosis and diabetes. Emerging evidence suggests that KYNA acts as a signaling molecule controlling the networks involved in the balance of energy store and expenditure through GPR35 and AMPK signaling pathway.

Biophoton emission is a common life phenomenon, which is highly sensitive to the changes inside the biological system and the influence of the external environment. A lot of microscopic and equivocal information about the biological system and its weak response to the environment can be obtained through the detection and analysis of the biophoton emission. In this research, we studied the delayed luminescence (DL) of Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells treated with H2O2.

Background: Mitochondria are considered a portal to receive, process and integrate external energy and information to maintain cellular homeostasis. Previous studies demonstrated that mitochondrial function and antioxidant capacity of in-vitro cultured mammalian cells is modified by different energetic stimuli including electromagnetic energy, acoustic energy, external Qi and subtle energy emitted by written texts in relatively short time frames. Thus, individual cells can act as a rapid and sensitive biological sensor and act as a platform to evaluate and understand the subtle effect of different biophysical stimuli.

Delayed luminescence (DL) is gradually used in various detection of biological systems as a rapid detection technique, however, its biological mechanism was still not clear. In this study, a new model of DL detection system for liquid biological samples is established to investigate the DL emission of Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells cultured in different glucose concentrations. We analyzed the relationship between the DL emission and cell growth, cell vitality, mitochondrial morphology, mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) copy number, adenosine triphosphate (ATP), oxygen consumption rate (OCR), as well as mitochondria membrane potential (MMP) in S.

Real-time measurement of the biochemical reaction process has important application scenarios. Due to the chirality of a large number of life-sustaining molecules, many parameters of the reaction kinetics involving these chiral molecules, such as the reaction rate and the reagents concentrations, could be tracked by monitoring the optical activity of the substrate and/or product molecules. However, the optical activity of photosensitive biomolecules does not allow traditional laser-based real-time measurement due to the vulnerability of their biochemical properties under high-intensity light regimes.

Adenine nucleotides and malondialdehyde (MDA) are key components involved in energy metabolism and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Measuring the levels of these components at the same time would be critical in studying mitochondrial functions. We have established a HPLC method to simultaneously measure adenosine triphosphate, adenosine diphosphate, adenosine monophosphate, MDA, and uric acid (UA).

The anatomical basis of acupuncture meridians continues to be enigmatic. Although much attention has been placed on potential correlations with inter/intramuscular fascia or lower electrical impedance, animal studies performed in the past 40 years have shown that tracer dyes-specifically Tc-99m pertechnetate-injected at strategic skin points generate linear migrations closely aligning with acupuncture meridians. To evaluate whether this phenomenon is also observable in humans, we injected two fluorescent dyes-fluorescein sodium and indocyanine green (ICG)-into the dermal layer both at acupuncture points (PC5, PC6, and PC7) and a nonacupoint control.

We examined the effect of the Qi-invigorating Traditional Chinese Medicines (TCM) herb () on mitochondrial functions and cellular antioxidant capacity in different organs of mice. We found that the extracts had a significant effect on tissues of mice, with the generation of total adenylate pool (TAP) enhanced in all visceral tissues, but not for the brain. The mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and antioxidant capacity reflected by superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione (GSH) increased only for the meridian tissues that belongs to including Heart, Spleen and Lung.

Objective: Mitochondria are considered a portal to receive, process and integrate external energy and information to maintain cellular homeostasis. We examined the effect of Chinese texts with positive and negative meaning on the growth and mitochondrial functions using a mouse kidney collecting duct cell line called M1 cells.
Methods: To avoid skewing the results due to differential handling of the cells or analyzing the results, we conducted experiments by keeping the texts and blanks covered in brown opaque envelopes, exposed the cells to randomly selected envelopes and examined the differences over time.
