Summary: The EMBL Nucleotide Sequence Database, maintained at the European Bioinformatics institute, is Europe's primary nucleotide sequences database. Its entries are subject to changes, but only the most recent versions are preserved in the database. The EMBL Sequence Version Archive is a new publicly available database retaining also the earlier versions of these entries.

EMBL Outstation The European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI), Wellcome Trust Genome Campus, Hinxton, Cambridge CB10 1SD, UK.
Unlabelled: The submission of multiple sequence alignment data to EMBL has grown 30-fold in the past 10 years, creating a problem of archiving them. The EBI has developed a new public database of multiple sequence alignments called EMBL-Align. It has a dedicated web-based submission tool, Webin-Align.

EMBL Outstation-The European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI), Hinxton, Cambridge, UK.
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory Nucleotide Sequence Database receives sequence and sequence annotation data from genome projects, sequencing centers, individual scientists, and patent offices. Data may be most efficiently submitted to the database using the Internet based submission tool WEBIN or via previously established genome project accounts. Biologist curators will review the data and provide accession numbers within two working days.

DNA sequence chromatograms (traces) are the primary data source for all large-scale genomic and expressed sequence tags (ESTs) sequencing projects. Access to the sequencing trace assists many later analyses, for example contig assembly and polymorphism detection, but obtaining and using traces is problematic. Traces are not collected and published centrally, they are much larger than the base calls derived from them, and viewing them requires the interactivity of a local graphical client with local data.
