The rovibrational spectrum of the water molecule is the crown jewel of high-resolution molecular spectroscopy. While its significance in numerous scientific and engineering applications and the challenges behind its interpretation have been well known, the extensive experimental analysis performed for this molecule, from the microwave to the ultraviolet, is admirable. To determine empirical energy levels for , this study utilizes an improved version of the MARVEL (Measured Active Rotational-Vibrational Energy Levels) scheme, which now takes into account multiplet constraints and first-principles energy-level splittings.

A unique compound (compound ) with structural features including an unprecedented tridentate-bridging coordination mode of permanganate ions and an eight-coordinated (rhombohedral) κ-chlorido and tridentate permanganato ligand in a potassium complex containing coordination polymer (Co(NH)][(K(κ-Cl)(μ-(κ-O,O',O″-MnO))) with isolated regular octahedral hexamminecobalt(III) cation was synthesized with a yield of >90%. The structure was found to be stabilized by mono and bifurcated N-H∙∙∙Cl and N-H∙∙∙O (bridging and non-bridging) hydrogen bonds. Detailed spectroscopic (IR, far-IR, and Raman) studies and correlation analysis were performed to assign all vibrational modes.

Mg-Y-Zn-Al alloys processed by the rapidly solidified ribbon consolidation (RSRC) technique are candidate materials for structural applications due to their improved mechanical performance. Their outstanding mechanical strength is attributed to solute-enriched stacking faults (SESFs), which can form cluster-arranged layers (CALs) and cluster-arranged nanoplates (CANaPs) or complete the long-period stacking ordered (LPSO) phase. The thermal stability of these solute arrangements strongly influences mechanical performance at elevated temperatures.

Domestication of dogs from their shared ancestors with wolves occurred more than 15,000 years ago and affected many characteristics of the species. We analyzed the blood RNA sequence data of 12 dogs and 11 wolves from Europe and Asia to shed more light on the domestication history of dogs. We implemented a differential gene expression analysis, a weighted gene correlation network analysis, gene ontology and genetic pathway analyses.

Current methods for proteomimetic engineering rely on structure-based design. Here we describe a design strategy that allows the construction of proteomimetics against challenging targets without a priori characterization of the target surface. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is an extremely incurable cancer type characterized by cells with highly proliferative capacity and resistance against the current therapeutic options. Our study reveals that IRS1 acts as a bridging molecule between EGFR and IGFR/InsR signalization providing a potential mechanism for the interplay between signaling pathways and bypassing EGFR-targeted or IGFR/InsR-targeted therapies. The analysis of IRS1 phosphorylation status in four pancreatic cell lines identified the impact of EGFR signaling on IRS1 activation in comparison with InsR/IGFR signaling.

The U-shaped curve has long been recognized as a fundamental concept in psychological science, particularly in theories about motivational accounts and cognitive control. In this study ( = 330), we empirically tested the prediction of a nonmonotonic, curvilinear relationship between task difficulty and control adaptation. Drawing from motivational intensity theory and the expected value of control framework, we hypothesized that control intensity would increase with task difficulty until a maximum tolerable level, after which it would decrease.

Eglin C, a small protein from the medicinal leech, has been long considered a general high-affinity inhibitor of chymotrypsins and elastases. Here, we demonstrate that eglin C inhibits human chymotrypsin-like protease (CTRL) weaker by several orders of magnitude than other chymotrypsins. In order to identify the underlying structural aspects of this unique deviation, we performed comparative molecular dynamics simulations on experimental and AlphaFold model structures of bovine CTRA and human CTRL.

The misperception of income inequality is often touted as a critical barrier to more widespread support of redistributive policies. Here, we examine to what extent and why (mis)perceptions vary systematically across the income distribution. Human single-stranded DNA binding protein 1 (hSSB1/NABP2/OBFC2B) plays central roles in DNA repair. Here, we show that purified hSSB1 undergoes redox-dependent liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) in the presence of single-stranded DNA or RNA, features that are distinct from those of LLPS by bacterial SSB. hSSB1 nucleoprotein droplets form under physiological ionic conditions in response to treatment modeling cellular oxidative stress.
