Kratom Alkaloids: A Blood-Brain Barrier Specific Membrane Permeability Assay-Guided Isolation and Cyclodextrin Complexation Study.

Mitragynine is an "atypic opioid" analgesic with an alternative mechanism of action and a favorable side-effect profile. Our aim was to optimize the alkaloid extraction procedure from kratom leaves and to determine and isolate the most relevant compounds capable of penetrating the central nervous system. The PAMPA-BBB study revealed that mitragynine and its coalkaloids, speciociliatine, speciogynine, and paynantheine, possess excellent in vitro BBB permeability.

Assessing the Impact of Bedaquiline, Clofazimine, and Linezolid on Mycobacterial Genome Integrity.

Tuberculosis (TB) presents significant medical challenges, largely due to the genetic diversity of , which enhances the resilience and resistance of the pathogen to first-line treatments. In response to the global rise of drug-resistant TB, second-line antitubercular drugs like bedaquiline (BDQ), linezolid (LZD), and clofazimine (CFZ) have become critical treatment options. Understanding the molecular changes these drugs induce is essential for optimizing TB therapy.

Visual mismatch negativity is more than the sum of microsequences.

Visual mismatch negativity (vMMN), the difference between the event-related potentials (ERPs) to repeated (standard) events and changing (deviant) events, can be caused either by diminished activity to the repeated ones (stimulus-specific adaptation, SSA), increased activity to the new ones, or both effects. To determine which of these effects contribute to the emergence of vMMN, we investigated the effect of repetition on visual ERPs. To this end, we measured electrical brain activity to task-irrelevant stimuli both in case of stimulus onset (continuously present objects, ON-events) and stimulus offset (frequently or infrequently disappearing parts of the objects, OFF-events).

Note on Polychromatic Coloring of Hereditary Hypergraph Families.

We exhibit a 5-uniform hypergraph that has no polychromatic 3-coloring, but all its restricted subhypergraphs with edges of size at least 3 are 2-colorable. This disproves a bold conjecture of Keszegh and the author, and can be considered as the first step to understand polychromatic colorings of hereditary hypergraph families better since the seminal work of Berge. We also show that our method cannot give hypergraphs of arbitrary high uniformity, and mention some connections to panchromatic colorings.

Search for Soft Unclustered Energy Patterns in Proton-Proton Collisions at 13 TeV.

The first search for soft unclustered energy patterns (SUEPs) is performed using an integrated luminosity of 138  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13  TeV, collected in 2016-2018 by the CMS detector at the LHC. Such SUEPs are predicted by hidden valley models with a new, confining force with a large 't Hooft coupling. In events with boosted topologies, selected by high-threshold hadronic triggers, the multiplicity and sphericity of clustered tracks are used to reject the background from standard model quantum chromodynamics.

User-avatar bond as diagnostic indicator for gaming disorder: A word on the side of caution.

In their study, Stavropoulos et al. (2023) capitalized on supervised machine learning and a longitudinal design and reported that the User-Avatar Bond could be accurately employed to detect Gaming Disorder (GD) risk in a community sample of gamers. The authors suggested that the User-Avatar Bond is a "digital phenotype" that could be used as a diagnostic indicator for GD risk.

The analyses of their age-group differences, sexual dimorphism, asymmetry characteristics in body regions, in sports having different pattern of physical loading could serve important information in this topic. 175 elite Hungarian handball players aged between 14 and 21 years were examined in 2023.

Online level-2 perspective taking for newly learnt symbols.

Humans demonstrate spontaneous sensitivity to other people's perspectives on object identities in online tasks. Evidence shows that this not only involves representing the mere discrepancy between perspectives, but the content of such perspectives as well (level-2 perspective taking/L2PT). However, this evidence comes from studies using culturally grounded symbols which leaves open the possibility that having extensive, easily accessible background knowledge about an object is necessary for the L2PT effect.

Exceptional stability of the sugammadex-solasodine complex: Insights from experimental and theoretical studies.

Sugammadex (SGM) is the first cyclodextrin (CD)-based selective relaxant binding agent. We investigated its ability to capture natural aminosteroid phytotoxins, and assessed its potential as an antidote for intoxication. Between east and west, between past and future: The effects of exclusive historical victimhood on geopolitical attitudes in Hungary and Serbia.

In Eastern Europe, collective victim beliefs have become integral elements of national ideologies, especially amid rising geopolitical polarization. In this study, we investigated how exclusive victimhood was related to geopolitical attitudes in Hungary and Serbia. The study involved Serbian (N = 630) and Hungarian (N = 471) adult national samples stratified by gender, age, political orientation, and place of residence.

The influence of relative pubertal maturity on executive function development in adolescent girls.

A positive association between pubertal maturity as assessed by skeletal development, and specific cognitive abilities has recently been demonstrated in a cohort of adolescent girls. The current study explores the impact of chronological age and relative pubertal maturity on executive function within the same cohort. Relative maturity, determined by the difference between chronological age and skeletal age, establishes the criteria for enrolling participants into average, advanced, or delayed relative maturity subgroups.

Presolar Grains as Probes of Supernova Nucleosynthesis.

We provide an overview of the isotopic signatures of presolar supernova grains, specifically focusing on Ti-containing grains with robustly inferred supernova origins and their implications for nucleosynthesis and mixing mechanisms in supernovae. Recent technique advancements have enabled the differentiation between radiogenic (from Ti decay) and nonradiogenic Ca excesses in presolar grains, made possible by enhanced spatial resolution of Ca-Ti isotope analyses with the Cameca NanoSIMS (Nano-scale Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometer) instrument. Within the context of presolar supernova grain data, we discuss () the production of Ti in supernovae and the impact of interstellar medium heterogeneities on the galactic chemical evolution of Ca/Ca, () the nucleosynthesis processes of neutron bursts and explosive H-burning in Type II supernovae, and () challenges in identifying the progenitor supernovae for Cr-rich presolar nanospinel grains.

Shape and texture biases in dogs' generalization of trained objects.

Shape bias, the tendency to link the meaning of words to the shape of objects, is a widely investigated phenomenon, but the extent to which it is linked to vocabulary acquisition and/or to tool using is controversial. Understanding how non-human animals generalize the properties of objects can provide insights into the evolutionary processes and cognitive mechanisms that influence this bias. We investigated object generalization in dogs, focusing on their tendency to attend to shape or texture in a two-way choice task.

Vibronic Coupling Effects in the Photoelectron Spectrum of Ozone: A Coupled-Cluster Approach.

One of the most important areas of application for equation-of-motion coupled-cluster (EOM-CC) theory is the prediction, simulation, and analysis of various types of electronic spectra. In this work, the EOM-CC method for ionized states, known as EOM-IP-CC, is applied to the closely lying and coupled pair of states of the ozone cation─ and ─using highly accurate treatments including up to the full single, double, triple, and quadruple excitations (EOM-IP-CCSDTQ). Combined with a venerable and powerful method for calculating vibronic spectra from the Hamiltonian produced by EOM-IP-CC calculations, the simulations yield a spectrum that is in good agreement with the photoelectron spectrum of ozone.

The relationship between frontal alpha asymmetry and self-report measurements of depression, anxiety, stress, and self-regulation.

Though previous research yielded inconsistent results, studies suggest an association between frontal alpha asymmetry (FAA), mood, and self-regulation. This inconsistency may be explained by the heterogeneity of experimental protocols and sample characteristics such as the baseline level of distress. The aim of the study was to gain a better understanding of the relationship between FAA and self-report measurements of depression, anxiety, stress, and self-regulation.

The role of dogs is associated with owner management practices and characteristics, but not with perceived canine behaviour problems.

Owned dogs are often regarded as family members, best friends, or even as substitutes for children. These new roles and their effects on human well-being have received scientific attention, but little is known about how attributing such social functions to dogs might influence the caring behaviour of the owner, which in turn can impact canine welfare. Our online survey of Hungarian dog owners (N = 790) aimed to describe what owners appreciate the most and the least in their dogs and to investigate the relationship between the social and non-social functions of the dog, the characteristics of the owner and the dog, the management practices of the owner, as well as the dog's behaviour, including behaviour problems.
