Surgery remains the primary treatment modality in the management of early-stage invasive breast cancer. Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered visualization platforms offer the compelling potential to aid surgeons in evaluating the tumor's location and morphology within the breast and accordingly optimize their surgical approach. We sought to validate an AI platform that employs dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) to render three-dimensional (3D) representations of the tumor and 5 additional chest tissues, offering clear visualizations as well as functionalities for quantifying tumor morphology, tumor-to-landmark structure distances, excision volumes, and approximate surgical margins.

Purpose: To evaluate the performance of two non-disease-specific patient-reported outcome (PRO) instruments, the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire-25 (VFQ-25) and the Low Luminance Questionnaire (LLQ), in patients with retinaldehyde-binding protein 1 retinal dystrophy (RLBP1 RD).

Methods: PROs were assessed using the VFQ-25 and LLQ. Rasch analysis was conducted to estimate person and item measures of the VFQ-25 and LLQ questionnaires to determine the association between the two PROs.

Background: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic inflammatory disease that causes pain and fatigue, reduces physical function, and negatively impacts health-related quality of life (HRQoL). In the phase III BE OPTIMAL and BE COMPLETE studies, bimekizumab demonstrated clinical efficacy and meaningful improvements in patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures in biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (bDMARD)-naïve patients, and those who had prior inadequate response/intolerance to tumor necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFi-IR).

Objectives: To examine the association between achieving increasingly stringent clinical disease control criteria and improvements in PRO measures in patients with active PsA receiving bimekizumab.

With the rising incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma, there has been increasing use of local-regional therapy (LRT) to downstage or bridge to transplant, for definitive treatment, and for palliation. The CT/MRI Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS) Treatment Response Assessment (TRA) algorithm provides guidance for step-by-step tumor assessment after LRT and standardized reporting. Current evidence suggests that the algorithm performs well in the assessment of tumor response to arterial embolic and loco-ablative therapies and fair when assessing response to radiation-based therapies, with limited data to validate the latter.

Objective: While weight status and clinical laboratory measures are important in assessing obesity-related disease severity and chronic disease risk, including a broader range of emotional, psychosocial, and behavioral factors would provide greater context of an individual's overall state of wellness and could be used to better guide treatment decisions. The purpose of this research was to develop a comprehensive Lifestyle Wellness assessment for use in lifestyle-based wellness interventions and programs.

Methods: A cross-sectional exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was conducted using baseline data from  = 138 adults participating in behavioral weight loss trials.

For several years, the determination of a differential cell count of a raw milk sample has been proposed as a more accurate tool for monitoring the udder health of dairy cows compared with using the absolute somatic cell count. However, the required sample preparation and staining process can be labor- and cost-intensive. Therefore, the aim of our study was to demonstrate the feasibility of analyzing unlabeled blood and milk leukocytes from dairy cows by means of digital holographic microscopy (DHM).

Article Synopsis
  • - Dashboards in health systems help track and improve serious illness conversation (SIC) quality indicators, but the effectiveness and challenges of these dashboards are still not fully understood.
  • - Interviews with palliative care leaders revealed that while dashboards can enhance data transparency and support clinician practice changes, they rely heavily on structured documentation that clinicians don't always use effectively.
  • - Key challenges include ensuring the reliability of data, securing necessary resources for dashboard maintenance, and integrating patient-centered outcome measures, which may hinder the overall effectiveness of these tools in practice.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores how aging of polyethylene microplastics (MP) through UV exposure affects their structure and thermal properties while introducing new functional groups, which alters their interaction with organic compounds (OCs).
  • - Experimental sorption tests with various significant OCs showed different distribution coefficients between pristine and UV-aged MPs, leading to the development of predictive models for sorption behavior.
  • - Results indicate that while non-specific hydrophobic interactions dominate in pristine PE-OC interactions, aged PE interactions are influenced by additional polar interactions and hydrogen bonding, highlighting the environmental impact of microplastic aging.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the effectiveness and safety of medication abortion using mifepristone and misoprostol in women up to 42 days of gestation without confirmed intrauterine pregnancy using ultrasound.
  • A total of 1504 women were randomly assigned to either an early-start abortion group or a standard delayed care group, and the primary outcome measured was the rate of complete abortion.
  • The results showed a nearly identical rate of complete abortion between the two groups (95.2% early-start vs 95.3% standard), indicating that starting medication abortion before confirming intrauterine pregnancy is as safe and effective as standard care.

Article Synopsis
  • Niemann-Pick disease type C and Alzheimer's disease both show neurofibrillary tangles but are distinct disorders; this study investigated plasma phosphorylated-tau217 in these conditions.
  • The study found that individuals with Niemann-Pick disease type C had significantly higher levels of plasma phosphorylated-tau217 compared to controls, and its levels correlated with disease progression and lysosomal enlargement.
  • In comparison to Alzheimer's disease, while there was no significant difference in p-tau217 levels between the two diseases, Alzheimer's patients exhibited higher levels overall, suggesting p-tau217 may serve as a potential marker in Niemann-Pick disease type C.

Background: While clinical practice guidelines advocate for multidisciplinary heart team (MDHT) discussions in coronary revascularization, variability in implementation across health care settings remains a challenge. This variability could potentially be addressed by language learning models like ChatGPT, offering decision-making support in diverse health care environments. Our study aims to critically evaluate the concordance between recommendations made by MDHT and those generated by language learning models in coronary revascularization decision-making.

Pressure ulcers (PUs) are caused by continuous pressure or friction on the skin that damages tissue, especially over bony prominences. A critical factor in the development and progression of PUs is poor nutritional status, which often involves deficiencies in essential nutrients such as proteins, vitamins (A, C, D, E, K, and the B complex), and trace elements (including zinc, selenium, copper, iron, and manganese). These micronutrients are vital for effective wound healing, as they play significant roles in cellular repair, immune function, and tissue regeneration.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is characterized by narrowing and subsequent blockade of coronary arteries, and imposes a significant health and economic burden. Stent and scaffold devices are introduced in advanced CAD to improve vascular stability and restore blood flow. Although in vitro flow systems like the Chandler loop have been developed to enhance the understanding of interactions between device materials, their coatings, and vascular cells, imaging-based in vitro analysis of device performance is limited.
