Children with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are at increased risk of developing kidney disease, termed childhood-onset lupus nephritis (cLN). Single-cell transcriptomics of dissociated kidney tissue has advanced our understanding of LN pathogenesis, but loss of spatial resolution prevents interrogation of in situ cellular interactions. Using a technical advance in spatial transcriptomics, we generated a spatially resolved, single-cell resolution atlas of kidney tissue from eight patients with cLN and four control individuals.

The Sensitivity of Ultra-Widefield Fundus Photography Versus Scleral Depressed Examination for Detection of Retinal Horseshoe Tears.

Am J Ophthalmol

November 2023

From the Shiley Eye Institute (A.C.L., F.G.P.K., E.M.S., D.S., Z.K., E.W., N.L.S., S.B., H.F., D.B.S., M.H.G., E.D.N., W.R.F., C.B.T.), Viterbi Family Department of Ophthalmology at University of California, San Diego, La Jolla, California, USA; Glycobiology Research and Training Center (C.B.T.), University of California, San Diego, La Jolla, California, USA.. Electronic address:

Purpose: Ultra-widefield (UWF) imaging is commonly used in ophthalmology in tandem with scleral depressed examinations (SDE) to evaluate peripheral retinal disease. Because of the increased reliance on this technology in tele-ophthalmology, it is critical to evaluate its efficacy for detecting the peripheral retina when performed in isolation. Therefore, we sought to evaluate UWF imaging sensitivity in detecting retinal horseshoe tears (HSTs).

Purpose: To assess the association between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and quantitative atherosclerotic plaque at CT.

Materials And Methods: In this post hoc analysis of the prospective Scottish Computed Tomography of the HEART trial (November 2010 to September 2014), hepatosteatosis and coronary artery calcium score were measured at noncontrast CT. Presence of stenoses, visually assessed high-risk plaque, and quantitative plaque burden were assessed at coronary CT angiography.

Background: The future risk of myocardial infarction is commonly assessed using cardiovascular risk scores, coronary artery calcium score, or coronary artery stenosis severity. We assessed whether noncalcified low-attenuation plaque burden on coronary CT angiography (CCTA) might be a better predictor of the future risk of myocardial infarction.

Methods: In a post hoc analysis of a multicenter randomized controlled trial of CCTA in patients with stable chest pain, we investigated the association between the future risk of fatal or nonfatal myocardial infarction and low-attenuation plaque burden (% plaque to vessel volume), cardiovascular risk score, coronary artery calcium score or obstructive coronary artery stenoses.

We review our experience with needle muscle biopsy, including technique, results, complications, and outcome. We have collected data from 40 consecutive patients undergoing needle muscle biopsy of the quadriceps muscle. All biopsies were performed by the same operator and 98% were performed in the outpatient clinic.

The arthritis of primary biliary cirrhosis: clinical features and associated immune processes.

J Clin Rheumatol

August 1996

St. Mary's Hospital, Rheumatology Unit and University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Rochester, New York (G.M.E.); Department of Rheumatology, Geisinger Clinic, Danville, Pennsylvania (J.L.P., E.D.N.).

We have performed a survey to determine the percentage of patients with primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) and arthritis followed at Geisinger Clinic, a rural tertiary care center. We have assessed the clinical features of the arthritis, delineated any signs that suggest the diagnosis of asymptomatic PBC in patients with arthritis, and explored coexisting immune diseases. From January 1988 through November 1993, 36 patients with PBC were identified from a computer search of the Geisinger Gastroenterology Clinic database.
