Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed how well three radiologists agreed on MRI evaluations for staging and restaging rectal cancer in 239 patients, particularly after neoadjuvant therapy.
  • The findings showed moderate to high interobserver agreement on various MRI parameters, with specific focus on tumor distance from the mesorectal fascia and lymph node involvement being significant predictors of locoregional recurrence.
  • Ultimately, the analysis highlighted the importance of lymph node restaging and its correlation with locoregional recurrence rates, indicating that changes in lymph node status can influence patient outcomes.

Objectives: Coronary microvascular dysfunction is present in large percentage of the population, and it has been shown to have a pathological and prognostic role in many conditions. Therefore, early detection of microvascular dysfunction is important, especially in selected populations. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of galanin with coronary flow reserve (CFR) in prehypertensive individuals to determine whether it can be used as a marker to detect microvascular dysfunction.

Article Synopsis
  • - Developmental hip dysplasia (DHD) is a common condition with unclear causes, and this study investigates whether synthetic oxytocin used during childbirth may be a risk factor for DHD.
  • - The research compared healthy girls born via vaginal delivery, focusing on those who received low-dose oxytocin induction versus those who did not, analyzing hip examination results and ultrasounds performed at various intervals.
  • - Findings indicated that low-dose oxytocin induction does not increase the risk of DHD, while also suggesting the need for further research on oxytocin's effects and its receptors.

Introduction: Pregnancy is a process that can cause several physiologic changes to the cardiovascular system such as ventricular hypertrophy and dilation of cardiac chambers. Although there are studies about pregnancy-related changes in echocardiographic examination; there is no data about the long-term effects of parity on these alterations. Therefore, we evaluated the long-term effect of pregnancy on right ventricular (RV) dilation and RV hypertrophy and their relation to the parity number.

Aim: To reveal the changes of corneal endothelial characteristics with aging among Caucasian population.

Methods: Non-contact specular microscopy was performed in 564 eyes of 282 healthy Caucasian Turkish patients. Endothelial cell density (MCD), mean cell area (MCA), coefficient of variation (CV) in cell size, percentage of hexagonal cells, and central corneal thickness (CCT) were measured.

Purpose:: To compare central corneal thickness (CCT) measurements of healthy individuals obtained with ultrasonic pachymetry (UP) and non-contact specular microscopy (NCSM).

Method:: In total, 148 eyes of 74 subjects with no ocular or systemic diseases were included in the study. Central corneal thickness measurements of all patients performed with UP and NCCM were compared.

Purpose: To emphasize the importance of anticipation of pressure-induced stromal keratopathy (PISK) in eyes with a previous history of LASIK.

Case Report: A 40-year-old man developed LASIK-related pressure-induced stromal keratopathy after uneventful phacoemulsification (Phaco) and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in his left eye. With immediate discontinuation of the steroid drops and initiation of antiglaucoma medication, his visual acuity, interface edema, and haze improved rapidly.
