Highly selective inhibitors of cyclin-dependent kinase 4 and 6 (CDK4/6is) have emerged as a standart of care for first- and second-line therapies in combination with endocrine therapy (ET) for HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients. It has been reported that combination therapy is more effective than ET alone and is safe in elderly patients as well as young patients. Nevertheless, elderly and very old patients with HR+/HER2-MBC treated with CDK4/6 inhibitor (CDK4/6i) combinations are relatively underrepresented in randomized controlled trials.

Background: Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have significantly improved treatment-related outcomes of patients with oncogene-driven non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). TKIs are usually well tolerated and used for a prolonged time, although experienced toxicity varies between patients. It is unclear whether patients report all (low grade) toxicities and how these impact their daily lives.

GENCODE produces comprehensive reference gene annotation for human and mouse. Entering its twentieth year, the project remains highly active as new technologies and methodologies allow us to catalog the genome at ever-increasing granularity. In particular, long-read transcriptome sequencing enables us to identify large numbers of missing transcripts and to substantially improve existing models, and our long non-coding RNA catalogs have undergone a dramatic expansion and reconfiguration as a result.

Background/objectives: Eculizumab is a first-line treatment for atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS), and patients undergoing eculizumab therapy may become more susceptible to infection caused by (). While meningococcal vaccination is required for patients undergoing eculizumab therapy, there is limited knowledge about meningococcal carriage in children with aHUS. We aimed to evaluate (1) the prevalence of carriage, (2) serogroup distribution, and (3) the immunization status of children undergoing eculizumab treatment for aHUS.

As screening strategies employ better biomarkers and genetics to identify individuals at an increased risk of prostate cancer, there are currently no chemotherapeutic prevention strategies. With any chemoprevention strategy, the population will be younger and healthier; therefore, they will be less tolerant of side effects. This study translated findings from screening a natural product library and pre-clinical evaluation of curcumin (CURC) in combination with ursolic acid (UA) in prostate cancer models.

: Lower-extremity ischemia-reperfusion injury can induce distant organ ischemia, and patients with diabetes are particularly susceptible to ischemia-reperfusion injury. Sevoflurane, a widely used halogenated inhalation anesthetic, and fullerenol C60, a potent antioxidant, were investigated for their effects on heart and lung tissues in lower-extremity ischemia-reperfusion injury in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice. : A total of 41 mice were divided into six groups: control ( = 6), diabetes-control ( = 7), diabetes-ischemia ( = 7), diabetes-ischemia-fullerenol C60 ( = 7), diabetes-ischemia-sevoflurane ( = 7), and diabetes-ischemia-fullerenol C60-sevoflurane ( = 7).

Background: Novel mobile and portable EEG solutions, designed for short and long-term monitoring of individuals with epilepsy have been developed in recent years but, they are underutilized, lacking full integration into clinical routine. Exploring the opinions of hospital-based healthcare professionals regarding their potential application, technical requirements and value would be crucial for future device development and increase their clinical application.
Purpose: To evaluate professionals' opinions on novel EEG systems, focusing on their potential application in various clinical settings, professionals' interest in non-invasive solutions for ultra-long monitoring of people with epilepsy (PWE) and factors which could increase future use of novel EEG systems.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the anticancer effects of piceatannol, a natural stilbenoid, on human neuroblastoma cells. In order to accomplish this goal, we performed various cellular assays, including the XTT cell proliferation assay for cell viability, colony formation assay for colony formation capacity, FITC Annexin V and cell death detection kit for apoptosis, matrigel invasion assay for invasion capacity, intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) red dye for intracellular ROS levels, TMRM staining method for mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and the CYTO-ID autophagy detection kit for autophagy. Furthermore, we analyzed the expression levels of genes associated with apoptosis and autophagy using RT-qPCR.

Objective: In patients with end-stage kidney disease, kidney transplantation is the kidney replacement therapy option that provides the most successful survival. However, immunosuppression agents administered after kidney transplantation can increase the risk of opportunistic infections. Microsporidia are obligate intracellular pathogens that can be fatal in immunosuppressed patients.

Objective: Long-term exposure to arsenic has been linked to several illnesses, including hypertension, diabetes, hepatic and renal diseases and cardiovascular malfunction. The aim of the current investigation was to determine whether zingerone (ZN) could shield rats against the hepatotoxicity that sodium arsenite (SA) causes.
Methods: The following five groups of thirty-five male Sprague Dawley rats were created: I) Control; received normal saline, II) ZN; received ZN, III) SA; received SA, IV) SA + ZN 25; received 10 mg/kg body weight SA + 25 mg/kg body weight ZN, and V) SA + ZN 50; received 10 mg/kg body weight SA + 50 mg/kg body weight ZN.

Introduction: Intensivists play a critical role in the management of intensive care units (ICUs) and in providing high quality care. While international guidelines recommend intensivist staffing for improved patient outcomes, there is a shortage of qualified intensivists in many regions, including Türkiye. This study aimed to assess the impact of introducing a full-time intensivist to a medical ICU on patient characteristics, outcomes, and ICU interventions.
