Relationship between handgrip strength and timed up-and-go test on hospitalization costs in older adults: a population-based study.

Background: Weak handgrip strength and slow timed up-and-go (TUG) time are known risk factors for hospitalization among older adults; however, few studies have investigated the relationships between these physical tests and future hospitalization costs.

Methods: We used data from 13,613 participants in the population-based Singapore Chinese Health Study who underwent assessment for handgrip strength and TUG time at a mean age of 74 years. Hospitalization costs for the subsequent year, among those who survived for at least one year thereafter, were ascertained via linkage with administrative healthcare finance data.

Comparison of Glenoid Bone Loss After Unidirectional Versus Combined Shoulder Instability in a Military Population.

Background: While glenoid bone loss (GBL) after anterior shoulder instability correlates with poor functional outcomes, the specific effects of GBL in posterior and combined-type shoulder instability remain poorly characterized, especially in a high-risk military population.

Purpose/hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to compare GBL between unidirectional anterior or posterior instability versus combined-type instability in active-duty servicemembers. It was hypothesized that total GBL and GBL in the direction of instability would be greater in those with combined-type instability compared with unidirectional instability.

Improvement of Recalcitrant Folliculitis Decalvans With Tirzepatide: A Case Report.

Folliculitis decalvans (FD) is a chronic inflammatory alopecia characterized by painful, scarring lesions and recurrent flares, often complicated by secondary bacterial infections. Despite the use of topical and systemic anti-inflammatory or antimicrobial therapies, FD remains challenging to manage, with limited therapeutic advancements. We report a case of recalcitrant FD in a man in his 40s who experienced significant symptom improvement and hair regrowth following the initiation of tirzepatide for weight management.

Multiple imputation (MI) models can be improved with auxiliary covariates (AC), but their performance in high-dimensional data remains unclear. We aimed to develop and compare high-dimensional MI (HDMI) methods using structured and natural language processing (NLP)-derived AC in studies with partially observed confounders. Background: Although intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) immunotherapy usually exhibits a favorable safety profile, it can lead to the development of BCG infections, both localized and disseminated. Understanding of BCG infections following intravesical BCG immunotherapy is limited because of the lack of consensus definitions of BCG infections and limited post-instillation follow-up. We aim to perform a systematic review of the literature of BCG infections following intravesical BCG immunotherapy to elucidate the epidemiology, risk factors, and outcomes of BCG infections.

Depressive symptoms among middle-aged and older adults in China: The interaction of physical activity and sleep duration.

Background: Previous research on the interaction of physical activity and sleep on depressive symptoms was mostly cross-sectional or conducted with children or young adults. This study examines the main and interactive associations of physical activity and sleep duration with depressive symptoms over a 3-year period among middle-aged and older Chinese adults.

Methods: Data from 4269 Chinese adults aged 45 or older from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) were used.
