Osteochondral lesions of the talus are common injuries that are most often the result of trauma. The natural progression of osteochondral lesions is not well understood. It is still unclear which lesions eventually lead to joint degeneration and osteoarthritic changes and if the treatment method affects the progression.

Health care transition (HCT) is a vulnerable period that continues into adulthood, even after the transfer of care. Given the growing population of pediatric liver transplant recipients reaching young adulthood, the need for a standardized and multidisciplinary approach to transition that spans from pediatric to adult care is becoming more imperative. In this article, we review the unique challenges and barriers to successful HCT that adolescent and young adults (AYAs) who have undergone liver transplant face, highlight the gap in transition care in the adult setting, and present the Six Core Elements of Health Care Transition TM as a framework that can be used by adult providers to incorporate AYAs systematically and collaboratively into adult practice.

Purpose: This article identifies, prioritizes, and summarizes published literature on the medication-use process (MUP) from calendar year 2021 that can impact health-system pharmacy daily practice. The MUP is the foundational system that provides the framework for safe medication utilization within the healthcare environment. The MUP is defined in this article as having the following components: prescribing/transcribing, dispensing, administration, and monitoring, and monitoring/medication reconciliation.

Background: Liposomal bupivacaine (LB) can be used for postsurgical analgesia after breast reconstruction. We examined real-world clinical and economic benefits of LB versus bupivacaine after deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap breast reconstruction.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study used the IQVIA claims databases to identify patients undergoing primary DIEP flap breast reconstruction in 2016-2019.

Background: The problem list (PL) is a repository of diagnoses for patients' medical conditions and health-related issues. Unfortunately, over time, our PLs have become overloaded with duplications, conflicting entries, and no-longer-valid diagnoses. The lack of a standardized structure for review adds to the challenges of clinical use.

Health professions educators can benefit from continuing education to more effectively facilitate interprofessional education (IPE) in clinical settings. Online learning formats enable broader participation and overcome barriers to in-person events, though few studies describe the most effective platforms and methods of online continuing education for this purpose. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, we developed a 6-week interactive online program implemented via an integrated online educational platform (OEP) to equip participants with knowledge and skills to better facilitate IPE in clinical settings.

Introduction: Systematic reviews (SRs) and meta-analyses (MAs) are methods of data analysis used to synthesize information presented in multiple publications on the same topic. A thorough understanding of the steps involved in conducting this type of research and approaches to data analysis is critical for appropriate understanding, interpretation, and application of the findings of these reviews.
Methods: We reviewed reference texts in clinical neuroepidemiology, neurostatistics and research methods and other previously related articles on meta-analyses (MAs) in surgery.

Background: Although elective procedures have life-changing potential, all surgeries come with an inherent risk of reoperation. There is a gap in knowledge investigating the risk of reoperation across orthopaedics. We aimed to identify the elective orthopaedic procedures with the highest rate of unplanned reoperation and the reasons for these procedures having such high reoperation rates.

Background: The mortality rate of pediatric patients who require continuous renal replacement therapy is approximately 42%, and outcomes vary considerably depending on underlying disease, illness severity, and time of dialysis initiation. Delay in the initiation of such therapy may increase mortality risk, prolong intensive care unit stay, and worsen clinical outcomes.
Local Problem: In the pediatric intensive care unit of an urban level I trauma children's hospital, continuous renal replacement therapy initiation times and factors associated with delays in therapy were unknown.

Hospital length of stay (LOS) in the USA has been increasing since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with numerous negative outcomes, including decreased quality of care, worsened patient satisfaction and negative financial impacts on hospitals. While many proposed factors contributing to prolonged LOS are challenging to modify, poor coordination of care and communication among clinical teams can be improved.Geographical cohorting of provider teams, patients and other clinical staff is proposed as a solution to prolonged LOS and readmissions.

A retrospective observational cohort study used electronic health records between January 1, 2018 and August 31, 2019 at a large academic health system in the southeastern United States. To evaluate the isolated impact of race on intraoperative medication use, inverse probability of treatment weighting using the propensity scores was used to balance the covariates between African American and non-Hispanic White patients.

The Anti-Kickback Statute was passed by Congress in the 1970s to reduce the overuse of government-reimbursed medical services. It attempts to eliminate fraud, abuse, and waste of medical services by outlawing the incentive of personal gain when referring patients for government-funded services. Although safe harbors were written into the law to maintain transactions beneficial to society, they require strict adherence.

Background: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a substantial cause of infant morbidity and mortality due to seasonal peaks of bronchiolitis across the United States. Clinical and viral surveillance plays a pivotal role in helping hospital systems prepare for expected surges in RSV bronchiolitis. Existing surveillance efforts have shown a geographic pattern of RSV positivity across the United States, with cases typically starting in the southeast and spreading north and west.
