Methods: We conducted a descriptive comparative study of KD and MIS-C in the United Arab Emirates. Retrospective MIS-C and KD cohorts were recruited between January 2017 until August 2021.

Monkeypox virus (MPV) is a rare zoonotic infection caused by an orthopoxvirus. The sudden outbreak of more than 3000 MPV infection from 50 countries has led the WHO to declare the infection as an "evolving threat of moderate public health concern". Here, we describe a case series of two cases of the MPV with a similar onset of cutaneous lesions in the genital area but with different progression in 35 and 41-year-old males respectively.

Registries may serve to expand understanding about systemic sclerosis and aid in patient care and follow-up. The objective of this study was to analyze the prevalence of systemic sclerosis in a large cohort from the United Arab Emirates Systemic Sclerosis Registry and find the significant similarities and differences between the different subsets.

Predictors of Pneumothorax in People With COVID-19 Pneumonia: A Multicenter Retrospective Investigation.

This multicenter retrospective investigation aimed to identify predictors of pneumothorax (PTX), pneumomediastinum (PM), and subcutaneous emphysema (SE) in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia admitted to the ICU. A total of 256 patients were included, with 128 in the case group and 128 in the control group. The study sample consisted of predominantly male patients with a mean age of around 53 years and a high prevalence of comorbidities.

A Phytobezoar Causing Terminal Ileal Obstruction Following Revision Bariatric Surgery: A Case Report.

Bezoars are a rare complication causing small bowel obstruction. A phytobezoar causing terminal ileum obstruction following a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is extremely rare. A middle-aged woman with post-sleeve gastrectomy weight regain, converted to RYGB, presented 17 months after surgery with obstructive symptoms due to an impacted phytobezoar in the terminal ileum.

We aimed to examine whether the rates of severe intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) or death vary among preterm infants receiving UVCs compared to PICCs.

Methods: This randomized controlled trial included preterm infants < 30 weeks gestation assigned after birth to either UVC placement group or PICC group.

Incidental Finding of a Periampullary Neuroendocrine Tumor: A Case Report.

A 63-year-old male with multiple co-morbidities presented with a diabetic foot infection which was treated surgically. During admission to the hospital, he developed melena and underwent an endoscopic assessment which revealed an incidental finding of an ampullary mass. The histological analysis of the biopsy revealed ampullary carcinoma with mixed intestinal-type and pancreatobiliary-type features.

Assessing the Burden of Osteoarthritis in Africa and the Middle East: A Rapid Evidence Assessment.

Introduction/objectives: This rapid evidence assessment (REA) was conducted to assess the burden of weight-bearing joint osteoarthritis in the developing countries of Africa and the Middle East.

Methods: Our REA methodology used a standardized search strategy to identify observational studies, published between January 1, 2010, and April 23, 2020, reporting on outcomes pertaining to the epidemiology and humanistic or economic burden of weight-bearing osteoarthritis. Relevant data from the included studies were used for qualitative analysis.

A cross-sectional study of the prevalence and clinical management of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases in patients with type 2 diabetes across the Middle East and Africa (PACT-MEA): Study design and rationale.

Aim: To investigate the epidemiology and clinical management of patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (eASCVD) or high/very high ASCVD risk, defined by the 2021 European Society of Cardiology Guidelines, in seven countries in the Middle East and Africa (PACT-MEA; NCT05317845), and to assess physicians' attitudes and the basis for their decision-making in the management of these patients.

Materials And Methods: PACT-MEA is a cross-sectional, observational study undertaken in Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates based on a medical chart review of approximately 3700 patients with T2D in primary and secondary care settings, and a survey of approximately 400 physicians treating patients with T2D.

Results: The primary and secondary objectives are to determine the prevalence of eASCVD and high/very high ASCVD risk in patients with T2D.
