In this study, we have synthesized Tc intrinsically labeled ultrasmall magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles with zwitterionic surface coating (Tc-ZW-USIONPs) via one pot synthesis using sulfobetains functionalized poly (acrylic acid) as stabilizer and NaTcO and SnCl as additives. The commercialization of single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT)/magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner made the combination use of Tc and iron oxide nanoparticles attracting much attention. Direct doping radioisotope into nanoparticles has the advantages of excellent radiochemical stability and no restriction on the surface functionalization.

Estrogen Receptor 2 (ESR2) is the protein-coding gene of estrogen receptor β (ERβ) and has been shown to be abundantly expressed in gastric carcinoma (GC), suggesting that it plays a role in GC pathogenesis. However, the underlying molecular mechanism remains elusive. In the present study, GC cell growth was found to be estrogen-dependent, and the expression level of ERβ was higher than that of ERα.

State Key Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and MOE Key Laboratory of Model Animals for Disease Study, Model Animal Research Center, Nanjing University, Nanjing, China

Polycomb group (PcG) proteins are essential for maintenance of lineage fidelity by coordinating developmental gene expression programs. Polycomb group ring finger 6 (PCGF6) has been previously reported to repress expression of lineage-specific genes, especially germ cell-related genes in mouse embryonic stem cells (ESCs) via the noncanonical polycomb repressive complex PRC1.6.

Chromatin accessibility is critical for tumor development, whose mechanisms remain unclear. As a crucial regulator for chromatin remodeling, BRD4 promotes tumor progression by regulating multiple genes. As a small-molecule inhibitor of BRD4, JQ1 has potent chemotherapeutic activity against various human cancers.

Heart failure preceded by pathological cardiac hypertrophy is a leading cause of death. Long noncoding RNA small nucleolar RNA host gene 1 (SNHG1) was reported to inhibit cardiomyocytes apoptosis, but the role and underlying mechanism of SNHG1 in pathological cardiac hypertrophy have not yet been understood. This study was designed to investigate the role and molecular mechanism of SNHG1 in regulating cardiac hypertrophy.

  • Osimertinib is a medicine used for lung cancer patients, especially those who have developed resistance to other treatments. Some patients respond better than others.
  • Researchers studied lung cancer patients who stopped responding to osimertinib to understand why.
  • They found various genetic changes in the tumors that made the medicine less effective, showing that there are many different reasons why resistance occurs in patients.

An oleanolic acid derivative reduces denervation-induced muscle atrophy via activation of CNTF-mediated JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway.

Eur J Pharmacol

October 2019

State Key Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry for Life Science and Collaborative Innovation Center of Chemistry for Life Sciences, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Advanced Organic Materials, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Nanjing University, Nanjing, 210023, China. Electronic address:

Denervation caused by sciatic nerve injury has brought great harm to the patients, especially denervation-induced muscle atrophy. The body stress produces a large number of Schwann cells when the sciatic nerve is injured, and the cells secrete some cytokines including ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) that not only play a role in promoting the repair of sciatic nerve, but also maintain the normal physiological function of the muscles surrounding the damaged nerves. CNTF upregulates janus kinase 2 (JAK2) and signal transducers and activators of transcription 3 (STAT3) signals in myoblasts, and consequently accelerates the proliferation and differentiation of myoblasts.

Few studies concerned the stress concentrated on bones, which may induce the osteonecrosis of subchondral bone. The goal of this study was to construct a finite element (FE) model with high fidelity of the knee joint and evaluate the biomechanical changes of load distribution of components after longitudinal tears of the horns of meniscus.

Novel Integrin αvβ3-Specific Ligand for the Sensitive Diagnosis of Glioblastoma.

Mol Pharm

September 2019

National Laboratory of Solid State Microstructures, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences , Nanjing University, 210093 Nanjing , China.

Integrin αvβ3 is a cell adhesion molecule involved in the progression and invasion of glioblastoma, making it an attractive target for the diagnosis of glioblastoma. Although some integrin αvβ3 specific ligands, such as RGD and its mimetic peptides (Cilengitide), have been devoted in detecting glioblastoma, their clinical practices have been limited due to low specificity and affinity. Herein, we have identified a linear peptide RWrNK, containing an unnatural d-arginine (r), as the integrin αvβ3-specific ligand.
