This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate whether percutaneous mitral valve repair (PMVr) using MitraClip was more effective than surgery or medical therapy for long-term morbidity and mortality. We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, and CENTRAL (Cochrane Library) databases to identify relevant studies that recruited adult patients with functional or secondary mitral valve regurgitation who underwent PMVr with MitraClip implantation using appropriate search terms and Boolean operators. The odds ratios (ORs) were pooled using the random-effects model.

Unfortunately, cancer patients have a lower quality of life due to inadequate treatment of posttreatment pain; therefore, improving medication management plans and palliative care has become one of the most important targets of cancer therapy. Therefore, the current study aimed to examine the impact of posttreatment pain on medication satisfaction in patients with various stages of breast cancer in Palestine.

Research landscape on COVID-19 and liver dysfunction: A bibliometric analysis.

Background: The global spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, responsible for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), poses a significant risk to public health. Beyond the respiratory issues initially associated with the condition, severe cases of COVID-19 can also lead to complications in other organs, including the liver. Patients with severe COVID-19 may exhibit various clinical signs of liver dysfunction, ranging from minor elevations in liver enzymes without symptoms to more serious cases of impaired liver function.

The specialized competency framework for industry pharmacists (SCF-IP): validation and pilot assessment.

Objectives: This study aimed to validate a specialized competency framework for industry pharmacists and assess correlates related to the competency domains in a pilot sample.

Methods: A team of experts assessed the old framework and improved its content validity after a thorough literature review, using the Delphi technique. Domains and their respective competencies and behaviors were re-defined in the framework.

The value of machine learning for prognosis prediction of diphenhydramine exposure: National analysis of 50,000 patients in the United States.

Background: Diphenhydramine (DPH) is an antihistamine medication that in overdose can result in anticholinergic symptoms and serious complications, including arrhythmia and coma. We aimed to compare the value of various machine learning (ML) models, including light gradient boosting machine (LGBM), logistic regression (LR), and random forest (RF), in the outcome prediction of DPH poisoning.

Materials And Methods: We used the National Poison Data System database and included all of the human exposures of DPH from January 01, 2017 to December 31, 2017, and excluded those cases with missing information, duplicated cases, and those who reported co-ingestion.

Validation of the specialized competency framework for pharmacists in hospital settings (SCF-PHS): a cross-sectional study.

Objectives: This study aimed to validate the content of the specialized competency frameworks for pharmacists working in hospital settings (hospital and clinical pharmacists) and pilot the frameworks for practice assessment.

Methods: This online cross-sectional study was carried out between March and October 2022 among a sample of 96 Lebanese pharmacists working in hospital settings. The frameworks were distributed to full-time hospital and clinical pharmacists, who filled them out according to their role in the hospital.

Introduction: Acute poisoning is a significant global health burden, and the causative agent is often unclear. The primary aim of this pilot study was to develop a deep learning algorithm that predicts the most probable agent a poisoned patient was exposed to from a pre-specified list of drugs.

Research Design & Methods: Data were queried from the National Poison Data System (NPDS) from 2014 through 2018 for eight single-agent poisonings (acetaminophen, diphenhydramine, aspirin, calcium channel blockers, sulfonylureas, benzodiazepines, bupropion, and lithium).

This paper examined pooled patients' characteristics and outcomes from real-life experience compared with those in the 2 landmark trials. A comprehensive search identified eligible studies published in 2020 and 2021.

Nurses' knowledge and practice regarding mixing medications with food: a multicenter cross-sectional study from a developing country.

Background: Different pharmaceutical characteristics of the dosage form (DF) have a direct effect on how easily oral solid medicine is swallowed. The practice of crushing tablets or opening the capsule occurs daily in the hospital, and most nurses are unknowledgeable regarding these issues. Coadministration of medications with food can cause changes in drug absorption and lead to an alteration in gastrointestinal motility, which can cause an unexpected effect on the dissolution and absorption of the drug.

Background: This study aimed to compare clinical and laboratory characteristics of supra-therapeutic (RSTI) and acute acetaminophen exposures using a predictive decision tree (DT) algorithm.

This study sought to evaluate the safety, bio-distribution, and response to Re-SSS lipiodol, a new and more stable compound.

Medically important snakes and snakebite envenoming in Iran.

Snakebite is a relatively common health condition in Iran with a diverse snake fauna, especially in tropical southern and mountainous western areas of the country with a plethora of snake species. The list of medically important snakes, circumstances and effects of their bite, and necessary medical care require critical appraisal and should be updated regularly. This study aims to review and map the distributions of medically important snake species of Iran, re-evaluate their taxonomy, review their venomics, describe the clinical effects of envenoming, and discuss medical management and treatment, including the use of antivenom.

Global trends in research related to the links between microbiota and antibiotics: a visualization study.

The scientific community widely acknowledges that the gut microbiota plays a critical role in maintaining host health and can be altered by a range of factors, such as antibiotic use, diet, stress, and infections. Therefore, this study utilized bibliometric analysis to thoroughly investigate research trends in the microbiota and antibiotics. Scopus was used to extract papers linked to microbiota and antibiotics published between 2002 and 2021, and both Microsoft Excel and VOSviewer were used to conduct the analysis of the data.

Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices of the General Population toward the Old-New Outbreak of Cholera in a Developing Country.

In October 2022, the first case of cholera since 1993 was recorded in Lebanon. This study aimed to develop and validate a tool to explore the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) toward cholera infection and its prevention among the general population in Lebanon and identify the associated factors related to the KAP assessment to guide prevention and awareness strategies. The nation's already precarious healthcare system might become overwhelmed by the response to the cholera outbreak.

Bibliometric mapping of the landscape and structure of nutrition and depression research: visualization analysis.

Background: Numerous epidemiological studies have examined the relationship between dietary intake of specific foods or nutrients and the incidence of depression and have noted that nutrition has a significant impact on mental health. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to assess the state of research, the frontiers of research, and development trends in the field of nutrition and depression using bibliometric and visual analysis.

Methods: We collected publications on the topic of nutrition and depression from Scopus between 2002 and 2021.

Prevalence of chronic pain in hemodialysis patients and its correlation with C-reactive protein: a cross-sectional study.

End-stage renal disease (ESRD) is a common chronic disease worldwide that requires hemodialysis. Patients may face chronic pain and poor quality of life. Therefore, a better understanding of these variables in hemodialysis patients is essential to provide a good intervention.
