Background The thyroid gland is the most susceptible organ to radiation during the exposure of teeth because the thyroid area appears to be within the primary beam, and the dose levels are relatively high even after using collimation. This study aims to develop an eco-friendly thyroid shield by reusing lead foils from intra-oral periapical radiographic films and evaluate its effectiveness in intraoral radiography. Methods A total of 16 patients undergoing endodontic procedures who gave written consent to participate in the study were included and divided into four categories: anterior, canine, premolar, and molar.

Introduction: The maxillary sinuses are air-filled cavities which vary in size and shape. Sinus radiography has been widely used in the determination of the gender of the individual, especially in forensic investigation for human identification and sexing of individuals. The advanced radiographic techniques like cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), especially the axial and coronal sections, have been considered as a subtle concept in forensic odontology.

Background: Because of its ease and visual attractiveness, clear aligner therapy has grown in popularity as an orthodontic treatment option. On the other hand, the results of therapy may be impacted by attachment wear. Comparing attachment wear in three distinct clear aligner systems-System A, System B, and System C-was the goal of this investigation.

Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a systemic autoimmune condition characterised by recurrent venous or arterial thrombosis and pregnancy complications, with persistent antiphospholipid autoantibodies. APS is often found in conjunction with other autoimmune diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). SLE-associated APS patients may require dental procedures like tooth extractions.

Introduction Speech has a great impact on human evolution, allowing for the widespread knowledge and advancement of tools. Difficulty in pronouncing one or more sounds is the most common speech impairment. Speech defects are more commonly associated with class III malocclusion patients (difficulty in pronouncing 's' and 't' sounds), the second in line is class II malocclusion (difficulty in pronouncing 's' and 'z' sounds), and speech distortions are least affected in class I malocclusion (difficulty in pronouncing 's' and 'Sh').

Periodontitis and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) are prevalent oral diseases with distinct etiologies, yet they share certain molecular and biological characteristics. Gene expression datasets from the gene expression omnibus (GEO) repository (GSE30784 for OSCC and GSE10334 for periodontitis) were analyzed. Data preprocessing and differential gene expression analysis using GEO2R identified common differentially expressed genes (DEGs), and FunRich software facilitated the construction of a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network on the STRING database.

Background: Although the conventional replacement for lost teeth has been partial or full dentures, the need for a fixed, esthetic, and functional restoration makes dental implants a reliable alternative.

Aim: To evaluate the initial and final stability of platelet rich fibrin coated implants using resonance frequency analyzer.

Method: ology: Thirteen patients with two or more missing teeth were informed about the procedure, and a consent form was obtained after cone beam computer tomography evaluation.

Effect of Sterilization and Irrigating Solutions on Nanostructure Alteration of Ni-Ti Rotary Instruments in Endodontics: An Atomic Force Microscopic Study.

J Pharm Bioallied Sci

February 2024

MPH, Rashtriya Kishore Swasthya Karyakram Consultant, District Medical and Health Office, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and sterilization on the nanostructural alteration of nickel titanium (Ni-Ti) rotary file systems in endodontics using the atomic force microscopy (AFM).

Materials And Methods: The study was performed on four commercially available rotary Ni-Ti files: group I-Vortex Blue (Dentsply), group II-ProTaper Next (Dentsply), group III-Mtwo (VDW), and group IV-iRaCe (FKG).

Background: The temporomandibular joint diseases have been associated with various predisposing factors. Joint spaces, articular eminence height and inclination, and the shapes of the condylar and glenoid fossa have all been shown to vary in temporomandibular joint diseases (TMD) patients. Advanced imaging techniques like cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) have been employed to estimate these parameters.

Article Synopsis
  • Heat shock proteins (HSPs), particularly HSP70, are linked to tumor growth and immune evasion in various cancers, and this study aimed to assess HSP70 as a potential predictor of malignant transformation in oral epithelial dysplasia.* -
  • The research involved analyzing 60 tissue samples, including different grades of dysplasia and normal tissues, for HSP70 expression through immunohistochemistry and statistical methods.* -
  • Results indicated that HSP70 expression increases with the severity of dysplasia and is significantly higher in established carcinoma, suggesting HSP70 may have prognostic value, although further studies with larger sample sizes are necessary for validation.*

Context: The most critical period for enamel fluorosis to develop is during the early years of life when enamel formation occurs. To minimize the risk of dental fluorosis development, monitoring fluoride intake during teeth development has been suggested. As infant formulae are major source of nutrition in infants, it is important to determine the fluoride content in them in order to monitor the fluoride intake in infants.

Introduction: Long-term use of chemical plaque control methods has led to adverse effects. In the current scenario, herbal mouthwashes have adequately remediated periodontal disease. Moreover, in the salivary interactome, biomarkers such as salivary amylase, a key protein secreted in the saliva, have been immensely useful in detecting the progression of periodontal disease.

Osteopetrosis encompasses a spectrum of conditions marked by heightened bone density due to faulty osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, leading to an accumulation of immature bone and thickened cortical structures. This condition gives rise to bone fragility, blood cell irregularities, nerve entrapment and growth challenges, all stemming from disrupted bone remodelling. Craniofacial distinctiveness, encompassing anomalies in the skull and jaw, is a frequent occurrence.

A difficult treatment problem exists to construct a complete denture as opposed to an unmodified natural dentition. A harmonious occlusion is difficult to achieve when malposed, supra-erupted or missing teeth are present in the opposing arch. This incurs compromised stability and retention, failure of the prosthesis and patient discomfort.

Aim: To evaluate the efficiency of debris removal from the mesial root canals and isthmus of mesial roots of mandibular molars after final irrigant agitation with XP-endo Shaper, EndoVac (EV), plastic finishing file, and conventional needle irrigation.

Methods And Materials: Forty extracted human mandibular first molar teeth with the isthmus between the mesial roots were selected, access cavities were prepared and distal roots were decoronated. All the mesial root specimens were mounted in acrylic, sectioned at the coronal, middle, and apical thirds, along with the resin block, and examined for debris in the canals and isthmus before the start of the procedure using a stereomicroscope and were mounted back in a custom-made jig.
