Chirayata-the whole dried plant of Swertia chirayita-is an important traditional drug of Indian System of Medicines. A novel reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method has been developed for the simultaneous determination and quantification of amaroswerin, amarogentin and andrographolide in a herbal drug "Chirayata," which is oftenly adulterated/substituted with herbal drug Kalmegh. The developed method is in accordance with International Council for Harmonization guidelines and is simple, precise, accurate, rapid, reproducible and specific to determine amarogentin, amaroswerin and andrographolide.

Trend for consumption of healthy meat without synthetic additives is blooming globally and has attracted the interest of consumers and research sphere to look for enhancement of quality and safety of food. Chitosan is multi-functional marine biopolymer with several befitting properties such as non-toxicity, ease of modification, antimicrobial activity, biodegradability and bio-compatibility, making it suitable for use in meat based food systems, which are highly prone to putrescence due to availability of high level protein, micronutrients and moisture. Infection of the cornea with HSV results in an immune-inflammatory reaction orchestrated by proinflammatory T cells that is a major cause of human vision impairment. The severity of lesions can be reduced if the representation of inflammatory T cells is changed to increase the presence of T cells with regulatory function. This report shows that inhibiting glutamine metabolism using 6-Diazo-5-oxo-l-norleucine (DON) administered via intraperitoneal (IP) starting 6 days after ocular infection and continued until day 15 significantly reduced the severity of herpetic stromal keratitis lesions.
