Testing Machine Learning-Based Pain Assessment for Postoperative Geriatric Patients.

The global population is aging, and there is a concomitant increase in surgery for the elderly. In geriatric patients, where postoperative pain assessment is difficult, technological tools that perform automatic pain assessment are needed to alleviate the workload of nurses and to accurately assess patients' pain. This study offers a more reliable and rapid assessment tool for assessing the pain of elderly patients undergoing surgery.

Hajdu-Cheney Syndrome, a Rare Cause of Acro-Osteolysis and Osteoporosis With Zoledronic Acid Experience.

Hajdu-Cheney syndrome (HCS), caused by a heterozygous gain of function variant of the NOTCH2 gene, is a rare skeletal dysplasia. Although the main presentation is acro-osteolysis, osteoporosis, and facial dysmorphism, having a wide range of clinical manifestations creates diagnostic difficulties. Here, a 15-year-old male patient with HCS who had no complaints until this age except for two short bone fractures and one vertebral collapse fracture due to a fall was reported.

[Multicentric Screening of Local Antibiotic Resistance in Uncomplicated Urinary System Infections: 1850 Patients from 37 Centers].

This study was aimed to identify the most frequently observed pathogens in uncomplicated urinary tract infections from outpatient urinary isolates obtained across seven different geographical regions in Türkiye and to determine whether the antibiotic resistance rates of these pathogens differ significantly between these regions. The study included patients aged 18 to 65 years who were diagnosed with uncomplicated urinary tract infections and had positive urine cultures from March 2021 to August 2022, across 37 different centers in Türkiye. The participating centers were selected based on their use of the disk diffusion method, in line with the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) guidelines, to ensure standardization of urine culture data.

Activity of CDK4/6 inhibitors and parameters affecting survival in elderly patients in age-subgroups: Turkish Oncology Group (TOG) retrospective study.

Highly selective inhibitors of cyclin-dependent kinase 4 and 6 (CDK4/6is) have emerged as a standart of care for first- and second-line therapies in combination with endocrine therapy (ET) for HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients. It has been reported that combination therapy is more effective than ET alone and is safe in elderly patients as well as young patients. Nevertheless, elderly and very old patients with HR+/HER2-MBC treated with CDK4/6 inhibitor (CDK4/6i) combinations are relatively underrepresented in randomized controlled trials.

Implementing digital respiratory technologies for people with respiratory conditions: A protocol for a scoping review.

The value of 'data-enabled', digital healthcare is evolving rapidly, as demonstrated in the COVID-19 pandemic, and its successful implementation remains complex and challenging. Harmonisation (within/between healthcare systems) of infrastructure and implementation strategies has the potential to promote safe, equitable and accessible digital healthcare, but guidance for implementation is lacking. Using respiratory technologies as an example, our scoping review process will capture and review the published research between 12th December 2013 to 12th December 2023.

Clinical Implications of Pan-Immune-inflammatory Values in Patients with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

Mobile app communication to prevent ER visits post-circumcision: a prospective observational study.

Purpose: To assess the impact of a mobile phone application facilitating real-time visual and verbal communication on reducing emergency-room admissions following circumcision.

Methods: This prospective observational study included circumcision surgeries performed by one surgeon at our clinic between April and June 2024, after obtaining parental consent. Parents were divided into two groups: one received a mobile app phone number, while the other did not.

Objective: Resistance to thyroid hormone beta (RTHβ) is a rare disorder characterized by a fairly heterogeneous clinical presentation due to varying degrees of tissue response to thyroid hormone. The study aimed to evaluate the clinical, laboratory features and genotype-phenotype relationship of Turkish patients with RTHβ.

Evaluating single-dose methotrexate alone versus methotrexate with letrozole for treating ectopic pregnancy: a comparative study.

Purpose: Ectopic pregnancy (EP) constitutes 1-2% of all pregnancies. Methotrexate (MTX) is commonly used in treating EP, but it has some limitations and potential side effects. Clinical studies have shown that letrozole, an aromatase inhibitor, may potentially be used in conjunction with MTX therapy.

Efficacy of Ruxolitinib in the management of chronic GVHD.

Objectives: Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is a potentially curative treatment for hematological diseases, with success rates improving due to advancements in conditioning regimens and new anti-graft versus host disease (GVHD) drugs. Ruxolitinib, an oral selective Janus kinase (JAK) 1 and 2 inhibitor has been used to mitigate the effects of various inflammatory and myeloproliferative syndromes, given the JAK kinase pathway's central role in cytokine signaling during inflammatory and immune processes. In this study we aimed to assess ruxolitinib's efficacy in patients with chronic GVHD (cGVHD).

Evaluation of the lacrimal punctum parameters in Turkish population with anterior segment optic coherence tomography.

Purpose: To determine the anatomical parameters of puncta in Turkish population without any complaint of epiphora, using anterior segment optic coherence tomography (AS-OCT).

Materials And Methods: The healthy participants between 26 and 83 years old who applied to our outpatient clinic from May 2022 to June 2022 for spectacle prescription or the accompanying person of the patients were included in the study. All participants underwent AS-OCT (Revo 60, OPTOPOL Technology, Zawiercie, Poland).

The effects of microsurgical varicocelectomy performed for infertility on premature ejaculation.

Purpose: To investigate the effects of varicocelectomy on premature ejaculation (PE) in patients with varicocele and infertility.

Methods: A total of 82 sexually active patients aged 18 years or over who had undergone microscopic subinguinal varicocelectomy with a clinical diagnosis of varicocele in 14 urology clinics between October 2021 and March 2023 with primary infertility were evaluated prospectively Patients were evaluated using the Turkish validated form of the 'Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool' (PEDT) scale. A PEDT score of 11 or above was taken to indicate the presence of PE.

Low-Dose Ionizing Radiation Exposure and Its Impact on Skin Aging Among Healthcare Workers.

Background: Ionizing radiation (IR) is a occupational risk for healthcare professionals, which can result in a range of health issues.

Objectives: This study aims to assess the relationship between low-dose IR exposure and the development of early aging-related skin wrinkles in healthcare workers.

Methods: In the current cross-sectional study, 70 health workers exposed to low-dose ionizing radiation for at least five years were compared with 70 non-exposed health workers.

Measurement of thiol/disulfide homeostasis and ischemic modified albumin levels in patients with uterine leiomyomas.

Objective: The aim is to contrast the serum levels of thiol-disulfide homeostasis and ischemic modified albumin between patients with leiomyoma and healthy individuals and to assess the impact of oxidative stress on the etiopathogenesis of leiomyoma.

Methods: In this prospective case-control study, a total of 154 participants were included, consisting of 77 cases diagnosed with leiomyoma and 77 healthy individuals without leiomyoma. The demographic characteristics and ultrasonographic findings of the participants were recorded, and parameters such as albumin, ischemia-modified albumin, and thiol-disulfide homeostasis were evaluated.

Comparison of tip-bendable aspiration-assisted and standard access sheaths in the treatment of lower calyceal stones.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the success and complication rates of retrograde intrarenal surgery for lower calyceal renal stones performed with novel tip-bendable suction ureteral access sheaths and standard ureteral access sheaths.

Methods: Between March 2023 and March 2024, a total of 88 patients underwent retrograde intrarenal surgery for lower renal calyceal stones smaller than 20 mm. Based on the access sheath used, patients were divided into two groups: Group 1 (n=43) included patients treated with novel tip-bendable suction ureteral access sheaths and Group 2 (n=45) included patients treated with standard ureteral access sheaths.

Assessing the outcomes of subinguinal microsurgical varicocelectomy: pulling technique compared to the conventional method.

Introduction: The positive effect of varicocelectomy on sperm parameters (sperm morphology, concentration, motility) and fertility and pregnancy rates has been proven. Although various techniques have been defined for varicocele treatment, varicocelectomy with the pulling technique was first defined in 2017. The aim of this retrospective study is to compare the effectiveness and reliability of subinguinal microsurgical varicocelectomy with the "pulling" technique and conventional subinguinal varicocelectomy.

Objective: Our institutional data revealed high pneumothorax rates in term neonates resuscitated in the delivery room (DR). Other studies have reported that high rates of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) in the DR are associated with increased pneumothorax rates. We sought to test the hypothesis that quality improvement efforts to reduce the use of CPAP in the DR would be associated with a reduced incidence of pneumothorax.

Infertility is not life-threatening but is nevertheless an important problem that threatens a couple's wellbeing due to its negative impact on their emotional health and quality of life. This descriptive, correlational study aimed to determine the relationship between university students' attitudes towards infertility and their gender perceptions. The study was conducted in a state university with a total of 602 students.
