Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology, Crown and Bridge, Thai Moogambigai Dental College and Hospital, Dr. M. G. R. Educational and Research Institute University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

Herbal rinses possess different medicinal properties. Numerous studies have reported the usefulness of various herbal oral rinses. Few studies claimed that herbal rinses are superior to synthetic mouth rinses for certain purposes, but there appears to be a lack of sound scientific evidence to prove the efficacy of herbal rinses in controlling oral plaque in cancer patients.

Association of hypoxia inducible factor-1 alpha exon 12 mutation in diabetic patients with and without diabetic foot ulcer.

Int J Biol Macromol

November 2018

Department of Genetics and Molecular Biology, Prof M. Viswanathan Diabetes Research Centre, MV Hospital for Diabetes, Royapuram, Chennai, India.

Hypoxia inducible factor 1 alpha (HIF-1α) is a key regulator of the genes involved in the cellular response to hypoxia. This study aims to determine the HIF-1α gene polymorphism and its association with protein expression in diabetic subjects with and without diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). A total of 529 patients with T2DM (N = 185), DFU (N = 199) and Control (N = 145) were accounted for the study.

Department of Pharmacology, JSS College of Pharmacy, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Sri Shivarathreeshwara Nagar, Mysuru, Karnataka, 570015, India.

Many studies reported the neuroprotective effects of angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1R) antagonists in Parkinson's disease (PD). However, the role of AT1R blockade on astroglial, in turn, dopaminergic functions in chronic PD is still to be studied. In the present study, telmisartan (TEL; 3 and 10 mg/kg/day; p.

Impact of various foot arches on dynamic balance and speed performance in collegiate short distance runners: A cross-sectional comparative study.

J Orthop

March 2018

Department of Pediatric and Neonatal Physiotherapy, Maharishi Markandeshwar Institute of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Mullana-133207, Ambala, Haryana, India.

Objective: To compare the impact of foot arches on dynamic balance and speed performance.

Materials And Methods: 30 collegiate male short distance runners were divided into three groups based on foot arches, high, neutral and low. Balance and speed performance were estimated based on scores of star excursion balance test (SEBT), 40 yard dash test and vertical jump test (VJT).

The present study was designed to ascertain the role of naringenin (NGN), a citrus fruit flavanone, against 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced α-synuclein (SYN) pathology and neuroinflammation in a mouse model. NGN was administered to C57BL/6J mice once a day for 5 consecutive days prior to the MPTP intoxication. On day 5, 40-50 min after the NGN or vehicle administration, MPTP was injected in two divided doses (2× 40 mg/kg, i.

The crystal structures of two title Schiff base derivatives, CHNO·CHO () and CHNOS (), were determined at 110 and 100 K, respectively. In the crystal of compound , the ()-'-[(1-indol-3-yl)methyl-idene]isonicotinohydrazide and ethanol mol-ecules are linked by O-H⋯O, N-H⋯O and N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, forming a tape structure running along the axis direction. The tapes are weakly linked a C-H⋯N inter-action.

Interlink between excitotoxicity and cellular bioenergetics depletion is implicated as one of the central deteriorative pathways in many neurodegenerative diseases including Huntington's disease (HD). Chronic administration of 3-nitropropionic acid (3-NP) depletes ATP and NAD and increases TNFα, IL-6 and glutamate content resulting in "immunoexcitotoxicity". Present study was designed to determine whether the combination of memantine (MN) and 3-aminobenzamide (3-AB), PARP inhibitor, can ameliorate immunoexcitotoxicity and improve bioenergetics in a better manner than individual administration against 3-NP intoxication in mice.

Cytochrome P450 drug metabolizing enzymes are implicated in personalized medicine for two main reasons. First, inter-individual variability in CYP3A4 expression is a confounding factor during cancer treatment. Second, inhibition or induction of CYP3A4 can trigger adverse drug-drug interactions.

L-NAME combats excitotoxicity and recuperates neurological deficits in MCAO/R rats.

Pharmacol Biochem Behav

August 2015

Centre for Toxicology and Developmental Research, No.1, Ramachandra Nagar, Sri Ramachandra University, Porur, Chennai 600 116, India. Electronic address:

Purpose Of Research: Since, transient focal cerebral ischaemia exhibits detrimental effect not only during the course of ischaemia but also after the onset of reperfusion, the current study is focussed on identifying the appropriate therapeutic time point at which NG-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester (l-NAME) exerts better neuroprotection.

Principal Results: Pre-ischaemic administration of l-NAME ameliorated neurological deficits much better than the during ischaemic and post-ischaemic groups. Pre-ischaemic l-NAME has also mitigated glutamate excitotoxicity, increased glutamine synthetase activity, ATP and NAD levels, decreased nitrate/nitrite content, down regulated TNF-α and upregulated IL-10 expressions and reduced the cerebral infarction significantly than the during ischaemic and post-ischaemic groups.

Human eyes are the most precious gift from nature; presence of a pair of eye not only gives expression to life but also adds dignity to the face. The loss of an eye causes disfigurement of the face and causes anxiety, stress and depression in their life. The rehabilitation of patients with congenital or acquired defects of the eye is a challenging job.
