The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical, laboratory, and histological characteristics of solitary rectal ulcer syndrome (SRUS) and assess the outcomes associated with various management strategies. This retrospective observational study was conducted at Giresun Education and Research Hospital. This study included patients diagnosed with SRUS between January 2020 and January 2024.

An Unusual Case of Giant Polymicrobial Shoulder Abscess Developing Two Decades After an Insect Bite: The Role of Chronic Intermittent Swelling as a Predisposing Factor.

Shoulder abscesses, commonly resulting from bacterial infections, can occasionally present with atypical etiologies and delayed onset. We report a rare case of a massive polymicrobial shoulder abscess developing two decades after an insect bite, emphasizing its clinical presentation, diagnostic approach, and surgical management. A 65-year-old female presented with severe, progressively worsening right shoulder pain, a 20 cm swelling, and purulent discharge persisting for 15 days.

The Prevalence, Serogroup Distribution and Risk Factors of Meningococcal Carriage in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults in Turkey Meningo-Carr-TR Study PART 3: COVID-19 Pandemic Situation.

Background: The prevalence of meningococcal carriage and serogroup distribution is crucial for assessing the epidemiology of invasive meningococcal disease, forecasting outbreaks and formulating potential immunization strategies. Following the meningococcal carriage studies conducted in Turkey in 2016 and 2018, we planned to re-evaluate meningococcal carriage in children, adolescents and young adults during the COVID-19 pandemic period.

Methods: In the MENINGO-CARR-3 study, we collected nasopharyngeal samples from 1585 participants 0-24 years of age, across 9 different centers in Turkey.

Inadequate awareness and attention to non-HDL cholesterol: undertreatment of high-risk patients in cardiology practice in Turkey.

Background: The relationship between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is well-established. Recently, non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) has been validated as a superior predictor of ASCVD, especially in individuals with mild to moderate hypertriglyceridemia. The EPHESUS study evaluated real-life hypercholesterolemia management and awareness of non-HDL-C in cardiology outpatient practices.

The relationship between HPV-Associated LSIL and HSIL lesions and overactive bladder in postmenopausal women.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the relationship between HPV-associated LSIL and HSIL lesions and overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms in postmenopausal women, highlighting the role of severe histopathological lesions.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on postmenopausal women aged 40-65 years who presented at Istanbul Bakırköy Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital between January 2021 and March 2023. The study included HPV-positive patients with low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL) and high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL), as well as HPV-negative controls.

Comparative Evaluation of Chatbot Responses on Coronary Artery Disease.

Objective: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally. The growing interest in natural language processing chatbots (NLPCs) has driven their inevitable widespread adoption in healthcare. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy and reproducibility of responses provided by NLPCs, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Bing, to frequently asked questions about CAD.

Regorafenib Treatment for Recurrent Glioblastoma Beyond Bevacizumab-Based Therapy: A Large, Multicenter, Real-Life Study.

Background/objectives: In the REGOMA trial, regorafenib demonstrated an overall survival advantage over lomustine, and it has become a recommended treatment for recurrent glioblastoma in guidelines. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of regorafenib as a third-line treatment for patients with recurrent glioblastoma who progressed while taking bevacizumab-based therapy.

Methods: This retrospective, multicenter study in Turkey included 65 patients treated between 2021 and 2023 across 19 oncology centers.

Investigating the role of large language models on questions about refractive surgery.

Background: Large language models (LLMs) are becoming increasingly popular and are playing an important role in providing accurate clinical information to both patients and physicians. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of ChatGPT-4.0, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot LLMs for responding to patient questions regarding refractive surgery.

Artificial Doctors: Performance of Chatbots as a Tool for Patient Education on Keratoconus.

Purpose: We aimed to compare the answers given by ChatGPT, Bard, and Copilot and that obtained from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) website to patient-written questions related to keratoconus in terms of accuracy, understandability, actionability, and readability to find out whether chatbots can be used in patient education.

Methods: Twenty patient-written questions obtained from the AAO website related to keratoconus were asked to ChatGPT, Bard, and Copilot. Two ophthalmologists independently assessed the answers obtained from chatbots and the AAO website in terms of accuracy, understandability, and actionability according to the Structure of Observed Learning Outcome taxonomy, Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool-Understandability, and Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool-Actionability tests, respectively.

Predicting mortality in penetrating thoracic trauma in the emergency department: The prognostic value of the glucose-to-potassium ratio.

Background: Penetrating thoracic injuries are critical conditions that significantly influence the clinical outcomes of trauma patients in the emergency department (ED). This study evaluates the prognostic value of the glucose-to-potassium ratio (GPR) in predicting mortality among patients presenting to the ED with isolated penetrating thoracic injuries caused by stabbings.

Impact of Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio on Stroke Severity and Clinical Outcome in Anterior Circulation Large Vessel Occlusion Stroke.

The prognostic value of the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in ischemic stroke remains debated due to cohort variability and treatment heterogeneity across studies. This study evaluates the relationship between admission NLR, stroke severity and 90-day outcomes in patients with anterior circulation large vessel occlusion (LVO) undergoing early, successful revascularization. Utilizing metabolomic profiling as a supportive diagnostic tool for radiologically isolated syndrome.

Background: Radiologically Isolated Syndrome (RIS) characterized by abnormalities on MRI that do not manifest as clinical symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) but raise suspicion for MS. Considering that RIS often evolves into MS, various diagnostic criteria have been established, and each suggested biomarker warrants thorough consideration and discussion. In this study, metabolomic profiling of body fluids of patients who were being followed up with a pre-diagnosis of RIS or MS and had not yet received any treatment was conducted.

Testing Machine Learning-Based Pain Assessment for Postoperative Geriatric Patients.

The global population is aging, and there is a concomitant increase in surgery for the elderly. In geriatric patients, where postoperative pain assessment is difficult, technological tools that perform automatic pain assessment are needed to alleviate the workload of nurses and to accurately assess patients' pain. This study offers a more reliable and rapid assessment tool for assessing the pain of elderly patients undergoing surgery.

Hajdu-Cheney Syndrome, a Rare Cause of Acro-Osteolysis and Osteoporosis With Zoledronic Acid Experience.

Hajdu-Cheney syndrome (HCS), caused by a heterozygous gain of function variant of the NOTCH2 gene, is a rare skeletal dysplasia. Although the main presentation is acro-osteolysis, osteoporosis, and facial dysmorphism, having a wide range of clinical manifestations creates diagnostic difficulties. Here, a 15-year-old male patient with HCS who had no complaints until this age except for two short bone fractures and one vertebral collapse fracture due to a fall was reported.

[Multicentric Screening of Local Antibiotic Resistance in Uncomplicated Urinary System Infections: 1850 Patients from 37 Centers].

This study was aimed to identify the most frequently observed pathogens in uncomplicated urinary tract infections from outpatient urinary isolates obtained across seven different geographical regions in Türkiye and to determine whether the antibiotic resistance rates of these pathogens differ significantly between these regions. The study included patients aged 18 to 65 years who were diagnosed with uncomplicated urinary tract infections and had positive urine cultures from March 2021 to August 2022, across 37 different centers in Türkiye. The participating centers were selected based on their use of the disk diffusion method, in line with the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) guidelines, to ensure standardization of urine culture data.

Activity of CDK4/6 inhibitors and parameters affecting survival in elderly patients in age-subgroups: Turkish Oncology Group (TOG) retrospective study.

Highly selective inhibitors of cyclin-dependent kinase 4 and 6 (CDK4/6is) have emerged as a standart of care for first- and second-line therapies in combination with endocrine therapy (ET) for HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients. It has been reported that combination therapy is more effective than ET alone and is safe in elderly patients as well as young patients. Nevertheless, elderly and very old patients with HR+/HER2-MBC treated with CDK4/6 inhibitor (CDK4/6i) combinations are relatively underrepresented in randomized controlled trials.

Implementing digital respiratory technologies for people with respiratory conditions: A protocol for a scoping review.

The value of 'data-enabled', digital healthcare is evolving rapidly, as demonstrated in the COVID-19 pandemic, and its successful implementation remains complex and challenging. Harmonisation (within/between healthcare systems) of infrastructure and implementation strategies has the potential to promote safe, equitable and accessible digital healthcare, but guidance for implementation is lacking. Using respiratory technologies as an example, our scoping review process will capture and review the published research between 12th December 2013 to 12th December 2023.

Clinical Implications of Pan-Immune-inflammatory Values in Patients with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

Objective: Despite significant advances in understanding hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in recent years, there is a need to improve risk stratification for patients at high risk of adverse outcomes. The relationship between inflammation and disease severity in HCM patients is known. Recently, a new inflammation parameter called the pan-immune inflammation value (PIV) has been introduced.

Mobile app communication to prevent ER visits post-circumcision: a prospective observational study.

Purpose: To assess the impact of a mobile phone application facilitating real-time visual and verbal communication on reducing emergency-room admissions following circumcision.

Methods: This prospective observational study included circumcision surgeries performed by one surgeon at our clinic between April and June 2024, after obtaining parental consent. Parents were divided into two groups: one received a mobile app phone number, while the other did not.

Clinical Characteristics and Genotype-Phenotype Correlation in the Patients with the Diagnosis of Resistance to Thyroid Hormone Beta.
