Children with Metopic Ridge.

Aim: The premature closure of the metopic suture results in metopic synostosis, also known as trigonocephaly. However, there is a group of children who have only a frontal metopic ridge, obvious with inspection and fingertip palpation, without the clinical features of trigonocephaly. This study aims to report a group of children with metopic ridge with a special emphasis on the definition and the diagnostic features.

A Giant Plunging Sublingual Dermoid Cyst Excised by Intraoral Approach.

Objective: Dermoid and epidermoid cysts are rare cysts of the head and neck region, which should be considered in differential diagnosis of sublingual mass, constituting 0.01 % of all oral cavity cysts. There are suspected theories regarding the basis of the pathology.

WISP1 is a novel adipokine linked to metabolic parameters in gestational diabetes mellitus.

Objective: To investigate Wnt1-inducible signaling pathway protein-1 (WISP1) levels and their correlation with metabolic parameters in pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and non-GDM healthy pregnant women.

Materials And Methods: In this prospective cross-sectional study, the study group was composed of 62 women with GDM and 73 healthy pregnant women matched for age, body mass index (BMI) and gestational age. Blood samples were collected at 25-29th gestational week.

An easy and noninvasive technique for harvesting split thickness skin grafts in rats.

Skin graft studies in rats constitute a valuable adjunct to scientific human experimentations, however the harvesting of split thickness skin graft poses a challenge to the researcher due to the presence of panniculus carnosus tissue in rat skin. This striated muscle tissue renders significant laxity and mobility to the skin layer, greatly interfering with the process of skin graft harvest. In order to fixate the rat skin and limit its flexibility various techniques and modifications have been described, which mostly rely on the use of subdermal implanted templates.

Oxytocin as a protective agent in cisplatin-induced ototoxicity.

Purpose: Cisplatin is a potent chemotherapeutic drug with serious side effects such as ototoxicity which is characterized by irreversible, bilateral, progressive sensorineural hearing loss. Oxytocin, which is a well-known hormone secreting during pregnancy, has antioxidant and antiinflammatory effect. Our study aims to test and compare the effect of intratympanic (IT) and intraperitoneal (IP) oxytocin on cisplatin ototoxicity with DPOAE.

[The donor site pain assessment of the patients who were reconstructed split-thickness graft].

Objectives: In this study we examined the donor site pain intensity of the patients who were reconstructed by split thickness skin graft (STSG) due to tissue defect.

Methods: This descriptive study was performed in a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Clinic of a State Hospital in Istanbul. Sampling selection wasn't made, all (31) cases were studied with STSG in 2013.

Comparison of efficacy and safety of three different chemotherapy regimens delivered with concomitant radiotherapy in inoperable stage III non-small cell lung cancer patients.

Concomitant administration of chemotherapy and radiotherapy is currently recognized as the standard of treatment in locally advanced inoperable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Our study aimed to compare the efficacy and toxicities of three different chemotherapy regimens delivered concurrently with radiotherapy. We retrospectively reviewed the clinical records of patients who received the PE (cisplatin, 50 mg/m(2), on days 1, 8, 29, and 36 plus etoposide, 50 mg/m(2), on days 1 to 5 and 29 to 33), PD (docetaxel, 20 mg/m(2), on day 1 plus cisplatin, 20 mg/m(2), on day 1, every week), and PC (carboplatin, AUC 2 plus paclitaxel, 45 mg/m(2), on day 1, every week) regimens concurrently with radiotherapy.

Evaluation of prognostic factors in localized high-grade undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma: report of a multi-institutional experience of Anatolian Society of Medical Oncology.

Most data on prognostic factors for patients with high-grade undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (HGUPS) is obtained from analyses of soft tissue sarcomas. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinicopathologic features and their impact on outcomes specifically in patients diagnosed with HGUPS. In this multicenter trial, we retrospectively analyzed 112 patients who were diagnosed and treated at 12 different institutions in Turkey.

Diagnostic value of fine needle aspiration biopsy in non-thyroidal head and neck lesions: a retrospective study of 866 aspiration materials.

Aim: We aimed to investigate the diagnostic value of fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) and compared our FNAB results of non-thyroidal head and neck lesions with excisional biopsy results.

Materials And Methods: A total of 866 aspiration material taken from different parts of head and neck region out of thyroid were evaluated at Haydarpasa Numune Training and Research Hospital Pathology Laboratory, between January 2002 and May 2013 and 248 of which has histopathologic response were included in the study. Patients depending on origin of the masses were divided into three categories as; salivary gland, lymph nodes and soft tissue/cystic lesions.

The efficacy and safety of capecitabine plus bevacizumab combination as first-line treatment in elderly metastatic colorectal cancer patients.

Aim: The optimal treatment in older persons with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) is complicated by a lack of general agreement. The aim of this study was to evaluate the activity of bevacizumab plus capecitabine combination in elderly mCRC patients who were not suitable for chemotherapy with irinotecan and oxaliplatin-containing regimens.

Materials And Methods: Seventy years and older patients with metastatic colorectal carcinoma were included in this retrospective study.

Objectives: Osseous dysplasias are the most common subtype of fibro-osseous lesions of the maxillofacial bones. They are benign and often present as incidental asymptomatic lesions. Diagnosis can be made with clinical and radiographic examination.

Is There a Relationship Between Bell's Palsy and Internal Auditory Canal?

In the present study, we evaluated the diameter of internal acoustic canal in patients with Bells palsy to investigate the role of anatomical differences of the temporal bone in etiology of Bell's palsy. Sixty-four patients who were diagnosed as Bells Palsy and temporal bone computed tomography imagings of them were included into the study group (Group 1). The control group (Group 2) was consisted of 35 healthy subjects without Bell's Palsy.

However, it is not known whether the bone loss is completely recovered in women with a shortened interpregnancy interval (IPI). A Giant Lymphangioma on the Neck.

Lymphangioma is a congenital malformation of the lymphatic system, which is located mostly on the head and neck region. Most of the cases are seen at age younger 2 years. It is rare in adult population and when detected, it can be treated with surgical excision.

Bed capacities and disinfection practices in hospitals in Istanbul are correlated.

Background: Disinfection, antisepsis and sterilization (DAS) practices are of critical importance in hospital practice. This study aims to investigate the daily DAS practices of private hospitals in Istanbul, Turkey.

Methods: The DAS practices of 155 private hospitals in Istanbul province were investigated using a questionnaire including 26 questions.

Objectives: To compare the efficacy of colistin (COL) monotherapy versus non-COL based combinations in the treatment of bloodstream infections (BSIs) due to multidrug resistant Acinetobacter spp.(MDR-A).

Laryngocele is a benign abnormal dilatation of the laryngeal saccule. We present a 30-year-old male patient who complained with hoarseness since 1 year. Paraglottic laryngocele is detected on medical examination.

A New Option for the Reconstruction of Orbital Floor Defects: The Olecranon Bone Graft.

Background: Orbital floor fractures are one of the most commonly encountered maxillofacial fractures due to its weak anatomic structure. Autogenous bone is a commonly used option for the reconstruction of orbital floor defects by many authors and institutions. This article introduces the olecranon bone graft as a new option for orbital floor reconstruction.
