Calcaneal fractures are complex injuries and have historically had a poor prognosis that results in substantial disability. However, no studies have been performed that analyze both the radiographic and plantar pressure changes after treatment of intraarticular calcaneus fracture. Patients with an intrarticular calcaneus fracture treated at our institution during the study period were identified from computerized hospital records.

PhD Student, Sakarya University, Institute of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing, Sakarya, Turkey. Electronic address:

Background And Aim: Pediatric burn injury is a traumatic experience which affects the child both physically and psychologically. Following the burn injury, repetitive dressing changes are one of the main problems, and to manage the level of distress caused this procedure, various distraction strategies are being used. However, the effect of hospital clown during burn dressing change among children has not been studied before.

Association of lymphadenectomy and survival in epithelial ovarian cancer.

Curr Probl Cancer

April 2019

Department of Medical Oncology, Faculty of Medicine, Bezmi Alem Vakif University, Istanbul, Turkey.

Purpose: Lymph node metastasis has a significant contribution to the prognosis of epithelial ovarian cancer but the role of lymph node dissection in treatment is not clear. In this study, we aimed to retrospectively determine the effect of the number and localization of lymph nodes removed and the number of metastatic lymph nodes on survival.

Methods: In this study, we retrospectively reviewed the data of 378 patients (210 patients with lymph node dissection and 168 patients with no dissection) who underwent primary surgery between 2004 and 2014 in various centers with epithelial ovarian cancer diagnosis and followed up in our medical oncology clinic.

The role of cerebellum in coordination of somatic motor activity has been studied in detailed in various species. However, experimental and clinical studies have shown the involvement of the cerebellum with various visceral and cognitive functions via its vast connections with the central nervous system. The present study aims to define the cortical and subcortical and brain stem connections of the cerebellum via the superior (SCP) and middle (MCP) cerebellar peduncle using biotinylated dextran amine (BDA) and Fluoro-Gold (FG) tracer in Wistar albino rats.

Background: Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) has emerged as a risk marker for many conditions related to pulmonary hypertension (PH); however, little is known about ADMA and symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA) plasma concentrations in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Our interest centers on the role of ADMA in regulation of endothelial function in COPD and secondary PH. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the serum ADMA, SDMA, and L-arginine concentrations in COPD and its association with PH.

We compared the efficacy and safety of low-molecular-weight heparins (LMWHs) in patients with cancer who are at low risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Patients were treated by medical oncologists in Turkey at 15 sites, where they were enrolled and followed up for a period of 12 months. Due to the study design, there was no specific treatment protocol for LMWH.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of Ozurdex (dexamethasone intravitreal implant) on multifocal electroretinography (mfERG) findings during the treatment of macular edema secondary to the central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO).

Methods: Fifteen eyes of 15 patients who were treated with Ozurdex implant due to CRVO-related macular edema were included in this study. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central macular thickness (CMT), and mfERG evaluations were performed for all patients before injection of Ozurdex.

Background: The purpose of this study is to investigate whether oral colchicine has an effect on peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) thickness of familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) patients.

Methods: We conducted a cross sectional study by comparing pRNFL thickness of FMF patients on colchicine (treated group), newly diagnosed colchicine naïve FMF patients (untreated group) and healthy controls. The study included 66 FMF patients and 32 healthy control subjects.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to asses the surveillance of influenza A/other respiratory viruses and risk factors in hospitalized children with the symptoms of influenza-like illness during two consecutive influenza seasons.

Methodology: All children hospitalized with adiagnosis of influenza-like illness had been investigated for Influenza A and other respiratory antigens in pharengeal/nasopharyngeal secretions.

Results: A total of 132 hospitalized children between December 2013-May 2014 and December 2014-May 2015 were enrolled in this study.

Objectives: The primary aim of this study was to report the vital signs, hemodynamic parameters and pain scores of the patients who have received procedural sedation and analgesia (PSA) with either ketofol (combination of ketamine and propofol) or etofen (combination of etomidate and fentanyl) and compare the proportion of patients with airway or respiratory adverse events (AEs) requiring an intervention and calculate the relative risk of AEs with each combination.

Methods: This study is a prospective observational study with survey analysis. All patients received procedural sedation and analgesia (PSA) with either ketofol (combination of ketamine and propofol) or etofen (combination of etomidate and fentanyl) were prospectively observed.

Glutathione-S-transferase (GST) and cytochrome P450 family 1 subfamily A polypeptide 1 (CYP1A1) metabolize and detoxify carcinogens, drugs, environmental pollutants, and reactive oxygen species. Changes of GST expression in tissues and gene mutations have been reported in association with many neoplastic skin diseases and dermatoses. Widely used artificial food coloring additives (AFCAs) also reported to effect primarily behavioral and cognitive function and cause neoplastic diseases and several inflammatory skin diseases.

Background: Currently, it is accepted that risk assessment of clinical stage I (CS I) nonseminomatous germ cell tumors (NSGCT) patient is mainly dependent on the presence of lymphovascular invasion (LVI). Initial active surveillance, adjuvant chemotherapy and retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND) are acceptable treatment options for these patients, but there is no uniform consensus. The purpose of this study was to compare outcomes of active surveillance with adjuvant chemotherapy.

Pedobarographic and Radiological Analysis After Treating a Talus Neck Fracture.

J Foot Ankle Surg

July 2017

Professor, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Health Sciences, Marmara University, Istanbul, Turkey.

Misalignment of the talar neck after surgical repair can redistribute the load among the posterior, middle, and anterior facets of the subtalar joints, which can change the joint biomechanics, cause arthritis, and impair function. However, we found no studies analyzing the plantar pressures after treatment of talus neck fracture. We determined the dynamic plantar pedobarographic and radiographic characteristics and ankle range of motion, function, and pain among patients after surgical repair of talar neck fractures.
