Phloroglucinol and derived compounds comprise a huge class of secondary metabolites widely distributed in plants and brown algae. A vast array of biological activities, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and anticancer has been associated to this class of compounds. In this review, the available data on the antiviral and antibacterial capacity of phloroglucinols have been analyzed.

Antibiotic resistance in pathogenic bacteria to various types of antibiotics has resulted in the necessity of new effective strategies to get around this problem. In recent investigations, metal or metal oxide nanoparticles specifically silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been employed successfully to hinder antibiotic-resistant Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. However, AgNPs at high concentrations have cytotoxicity for eukaryotic cells which, application of other biocompatible materials particularly plant secondary metabolites of curcumin and quercetin to reduce cytotoxicity is a critical affair.

The present research work has been performed to evaluate the phenolic content, flavonoids content, and cytotoxicity of a multidimensional medicinal plant; Tinospora cordifolia and as well as to determine nutritive value by proximate analysis. The total phenolic and flavonoids contents of Tinospora cordifolia were found to be significantly greater in methanol extract as compared to corresponding hexane extract. Brine shrimp bioassay indicated Tinospora cordifolia is pharmacologically active.

The current study was designed to isolate, identify and characterize a Bacillus sp. capable of producing protease and exhibiting antifungal activity. Background: The pressed juice of Barley Grass (BG) has become very popular among people for various assumed benefits along with many testimonies of people who have been healed from various ailments such as anemia, cancer, GI problems by consuming BG. The aim of our research was to validate the claims of its medicinal values such as chemo-protective action, high anti-oxidants, RBC membrane stabilization activity, and toxicity level.

Based on its uses, the present study was designed to investigate the antinociceptive, antipyretic and anti-edematogenic activities from leaves' methanol extract (PBME) in Wister rats. The thermal (hot plate) and chemical (acetic acid-induced writhing and formalin test) models for antinociceptive effects, and the Brewer's yeast induced hyperthermia test for antipyretic action and rat paw edema by carrageenan for anti-edematogenic activity, were applied for PBME at different dose levels.

Eight selected wild vegetables from Nepal (, , , , , , and ) were investigated for their antioxidative potential using 2,2-dyphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging, hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), and ferric thiocyanate (FTC) methods. Among the selected plant extracts displayed the highest DPPH radical scavenging activity with an IC value 9.898 μg/mL, whereas had the maximum H₂O₂ scavenging activity with an IC value 16.

Aim: Dual coinfection of HCV and HBV in HIV-1-infected population is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. Also, they share routes of HIV transmission; however, it might be associated with an independent factor like injecting drug use for HCV and unsafe sex for HBV. This case report suggests that hepatitis virus coinfection may lead to late response of antiretroviral therapy (ART) in HIV-1 patients.
