Surgery in congenital lung malformations: the evolution from thoracotomy to VATS, 10-year experience in a single center.

Background: Congenital lung malformation is an umbrella term and consist of various kind of parenchymal and mediastinal pathologies. Surgical resection is often required for diagnosis and curative treatment. We aimed to review our experience in surgical treatment for congenital lung disease and present the role of minimally invasive surgery.

Complete anatomic lung resection remains the best curative option in patients with early-stage lung cancer. In some cases, extended lung resections are required to achieve R0 resection. Efficacy, Safety and Immunogenicity of MB02 (Bevacizumab Biosimilar) versus Reference Bevacizumab in Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Phase III Study (STELLA).

Background: MB02 (bevacizumab biosimilar) showed similar structural, functional, and pharmacokinetic properties to reference bevacizumab (Avastin; EU-bevacizumab).

Objectives: To confirm clinical similarity between MB02 and EU-bevacizumab, a comparability study was undertaken in the first-line treatment of stage IIIB/IV non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Patients And Methods: This multinational, double-blind, randomized, phase III study (STELLA) compared MB02 or EU-bevacizumab (15 mg/kg) administered with chemotherapy (paclitaxel 200 mg/m and carboplatin AUC6) on Day 1 of every 3-week cycle for 6 cycles (Week 18), followed by MB02/EU-bevacizumab in blinded monotherapy until disease progression, unacceptable toxicity, death, withdrawal of consent or end of study (Week 52).

The Relation Between the Emergence of Fluoroquinolone Resistance and Fluoroquinolone Exposure in New Cases of Active Pulmonary Tuberculosis.

Objective: This study aimed to determine the ratio of fluoroquinolone (FQ) exposure before the diagnosis of patients with a new case of active pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) and to investigate the correlation of this treatment with the emergence of FQ-resistant strains.

Material And Methods: In this retrospective comparative case series study, a total of 132 patients, who had been diagnosed with adult, culture-positive, active pulmonary TB were reviewed. The FQ group had 30 patients who had had ≥1 time and ≥7 days of FQ exposure within 1 year before the diagnoses.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the predictive power of the screening questionnaires including Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Berlin questionnaire (BQ) and STOP-Bang questionnaire (SBQ) to identify the high-risk patients for OSA in a sleep clinic setting considering age, gender and comorbidities.

Material And Methods: 1003 patients who admitted to our sleep center with the preliminary diagnosis of OSA between June 2016-May 2018 were included in the study. All patients underwent in-lab polysomnographic examination and filled out ESS, Berlin and STOP-Bang questionnaires.

Pleural complications in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19): how to safely apply and follow-up with a chest tube during the pandemic?

Objectives: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, a novel coronavirus, affects mainly the pulmonary parenchyma and produces significant morbidity and mortality. During the pandemic, several complications have been shown to be associated with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Our goal was to present a series of patients with COVID-19 who underwent chest tube placements due to the development of pleural complications and to make suggestions for the insertion and follow-up management of the chest tube.

Gender-related clinical and management differences in patients with chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.

Aim: Gender-related differences have been described in the clinical characteristics and management of patients with chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). However, published data are conflictive in this regard.

Methods: We investigated differences in clinical and management variables between male and female patients from the ATA study, a prospective, multicentre, observational study that included 1462 outpatients with chronic HFrEF between January and June 2019.

Characteristics of Patients with Large-Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Lung.

Laryngeal Botulinum Toxin Injection: Can It Be a Cause of Obstructive Sleep Apnea as an Adverse Effect?

Spasmodic dysphonia is a chronic voice disorder that is characterized by involuntary spasms of the laryngeal muscles during speech production. Botulinum toxin injection into to the laryngeal muscles is the most common and effective treatment of choice for symptoms of spasmodic dysphonia. We present a 44-year-old man with adductor spasmodic dysphonia who was diagnosed as having upper airway obstruction in a polysomnographic examination during sleep after a botulinum toxin injection.

Regional distribution of genetic mutation in lung cancer in Turkey (REDIGMA).

Introduction: The results of standard chemotherapy in lung cancer are not very satisfactory, so it is important to identify genetic mutations that provide targeted therapies. Recent reports have suggested influences of racial difference on the frequency of mutation in lung cancer. We aimed to determine the frequency and regional distribution of genetic mutations of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in Turkey.

Background/aim: This study was conducted to determine the critical partial oxygen pressure (pO2) value that would impair hearing function by evaluating the effects of hypoxia on hearing function in subjects diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (CPOD).

Materials And Methods: The study included 25 male and 5 female patients referred to our clinic who were diagnosed with COPD, according to spirometry and PaO2 values, and who did not show pathology upon autoscopic examination.
