Minimally Invasive Neuroendoscopic Surgery for Spontaneous Intracerebral Hemorrhage: A Review of the Rationale and Associated Complications.

Acta Neurochir Suppl

August 2023

Department of Neurosurgery, Dr. Soetomo General Hospital and Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University, Surabaya, Indonesia.

Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is associated with a poor prognosis. Its mortality rate exceeds 40%, and 10-15% of survivors remain fully dependent. Considering the limited number of effective therapeutic options in such cases, the possibilities for surgical interventions aimed at removal of a hematoma should always be borne in mind.

Introduction: Effective antiseptic use is essential in healthcare settings to prevent the spread of diseases, especially in areas with high patient traffic and exposure to various pathogens. One essential pathogenic germ is Acinetobacter baumannii. Octenidine and povidone-iodine have been demonstrated to be effective against A.

Introduction And Importance: Bile duct stones are a widespread condition that can pose a significant risk to life due to the occurrence of complications. In recent years, there has been a growing inclination toward the use of one-stage minimally invasive procedures for the treatment of this condition. However, it is important to note that in developing countries, such as Indonesia, where the National Healthcare Insurance System is established, the implementation of these procedures is still relatively uncommon due to limitations in healthcare facilities.

At present, RNA-based therapy which includes therapies using non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs), and aptamers are gaining widespread attention as possible ways to target genes in various cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), thereby serving as a promising therapeutic approach for CVDs and risk factors management. However, data are primarily in an early stage. A systematic review was carried out using literature from several databases (Pubmed, Cochrane, Scopus, and DOAJR) following the PRISMA guidelines.

Unlabelled: The preconditioning hypoxia for stem cells is a strategy to achieve effective conditions for cell therapy, indicate increased expression of regenerative genes in stem cell therapy, and enhance the secretion of bioactive factors and therapeutic potential of their cultured secretome.

Objectives: This study aims to explore the response of Schwann-like cells derived from adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (SLCs) and Schwann cells rat sciatic nerve-derived stem cells (SCs) with their secretomes under normoxic and hypoxic conditions .

Material And Methods: SLCs and SCs were isolated from the adipose tissue and the sciatic nerve of the adult white male rat strain Wistar.

Introduction: Arthrodesis is an expensive procedure that is less applicable in developing countries. In this case report we reported a case of diabetic charcot neuroartropathy (CN) with primary ankle arthrodesis technique with a fibular strut graft which is considered cheaper and has a higher union rate.

Case Description: A 47 years old female with complaints of pain in her right ankle after falling down the stairs with foot inverted one month before admission.

Background: Cytokines were beneficial for diagnosis and treatment, which in clinical situations introduced from the perspective of pro and anti-inflammatory effects. An inflammatory response is commonly associated with various severe traumatic insults that consequently recruit the immune cells into the target organs and causing systemic inflammatory response that can lead to sepsis. Immune-modulating nutrients, such as glutamine and arginine, are known as pathophysiological modulate in inflammation.

Background: Amniotic band syndrome (ABS) is a rare congenital disease characterized by a broad spectrum of congenital anomalies resulting from the strangulated developing organ(s) by the detached fibrous amniotic band. The prevalence of CNS involvement in ABS is rare, but the mortality rate in these cases is high, while morbidity among the surviving patients is inevitable.

Case Report: Three-month-old male, 9-month-old female, and newborn female babies were presented with head lump(s), severe facial cleft, syndactyly, and finger amputation.

Background: Children with Down syndrome (DS) are prone to developing autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD). Previous studies found lower selenium (Se) levels in children with AITD. Glutathione peroxidase-3 (GPx3) and selenoprotein-P (SePP) are widely used to measure Se levels.

A rare case of spontaneous thrombosis in saccular cerebral aneurysm in a patient with subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Radiol Case Rep

July 2023

Department Neurology, Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University, - Dr. Soetomo General Hospital, Surabaya 60286, East Java, Indonesia.

Cerebral aneurysm is a known cause of spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Furthermore, this condition is often asymptomatic, but the occurrence of a rupture can lead to fatal complications. The incidence of spontaneous thrombosis in saccular aneurysm is rare, with an incidence rate of 1%-2%.

A limb shaking TIA is a less common form of TIA that manifests as involuntary movement and is frequently confused with focal motor epilepsy. A 64-year-old female presented with a 7-month history of episodic involuntary shaking movements affecting her left arm and leg before admission. These attacks primarily occurred after she rose from a sitting or lying down position to a standing position, and were relieved by simply returning to a sitting or lying position.

Introduction: An arteriovenous malformation (AVM) consists of a tangled cluster of dilated blood vessels forming anomalous communication between arterial and venous systems without capillary bridging. The most likely manifestations of a ruptured AVM are intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), or intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH). Subdural hematoma (SDH) is exceptional in cases of ruptured brain arteriovenous malformation (BAVM).

Ankylosis of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is one of the most prevalent TMJ disorders in patients who have experienced trauma. Due to the high risk of recurrence, gap arthroplasty without interpositional material has been gradually discontinued as a treatment for TMJ ankylosis. After arthroplasty surgery, various interposition materials have been used to prevent a recurrence.

The authors reported two patients with a history of asymptomatic mild mitral valve prolapse, a male in his late 40s (Case 1, vaccinated) and a female in her late 20s (Case 2, unvaccinated), who developed worsening (severe) mitral prolapse and New York Heart Association symptoms class III-IV after exposure to coronavirus disease 2019 with evidence of myocarditis on MRI. Both patients received similar 6-month of heart failure therapy; however, the outcomes did not affect the severity of their symptoms or mitral regurgitation. Subsequently, both patients underwent mitral valve surgery.

Vaginal laxity, a symptom of pelvic floor dysfunction observed in women, has many negative biological and psychological impacts. Laser treatments and stem cell-based therapies are emerging therapeutic methods for treating this condition. This study aimed to determine changes in vaginal laxity in model rats using a combination therapy of erbium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet (Er:YAG) fractional lasers and topical treatment with amniotic membrane stem cell metabolite products (AMSC-MP).
