In developing countries, including Indonesia, there is a high mortality rate associated with the progression of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-associated chronic liver disease (CLD). The pathogenesis of HBV infection is influenced by viral and host factors. To determine potential associations between these factors, host single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on TNF-α, TGF-β1 and p53, HBV X gene mutation and HBV viral load were investigated in patients with HBV-associated CLD in Surabaya, Indonesia.

Introduction: Human amnion membrane mesenchymal stem cells (hAMSCs) and human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) are potential, non invasive sources of stem cells used for bone tissue engineering. Phenotyping characterization is an extremely important consideration in the choice of the appropriate passage in order to maximize its osteogenic differentiation potential.

Aim: To explore phenotype characteristics and compare osteogenic differentiation potential of hAMSCs and hUC-MSCs.

Article Synopsis
  • Previous research indicated that injecting adipose stem cells and stromal vascular fraction (SVF) prevented tunica albuginea (TA) fibrosis during the inflammatory phase of Peyronie's disease in rats.
  • The study aimed to determine if local SVF injections could reduce established fibrosis in chronic Peyronie's disease using a rat model with three groups: sham, PD without treatment, and PD treated with SVF.
  • Results showed that while erectile function was similar across groups, SVF injections effectively reversed fibrosis in the TA, demonstrating potential therapeutic benefits for chronic Peyronie's disease.
