Challenges and considerations for single-cell and spatially resolved transcriptomics sample collection during spaceflight.

Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and spatially resolved transcriptomics (SRT) have experienced rapid development in recent years. The findings of spaceflight-based scRNA-seq and SRT investigations are likely to improve our understanding of life in space and our comprehension of gene expression in various cell systems and tissue dynamics. However, compared to their Earth-based counterparts, gene expression experiments conducted in spaceflight have not experienced the same pace of development.

Bacteriophage therapy in infection after fracture fixation (IAFF) in orthopaedic surgery.

Infection after fracture fixation (IAFF) in orthopaedic surgery is a significant complication that can lead to disability due to chronic infection and/or relapsing disease, non-union necessitating revision surgery. Management of IAFF is a major challenge facing orthopaedic surgeons across the world due to two key pathogenic mechanisms of Biofilm formation and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) against traditional antibiotics. Advanced prophylactic and treatment strategies to help eradicate established infections and prevent the development of such infections are necessary.

Comparison of rapid tests (antigen vs. antibody) for the diagnosis of typhoid in the first and second weeks of fever.

Objectives: We conducted this study with an objective to compare the diagnostic accuracy of rapid antigen and antibody kits for early detection (<5 days of fever) and late detection (>5 days of fever) of S.Typhi and S.Paratyphi in relation to the Widal test.

Contraceptive awareness and practices in reproductive age couples: A study from urban slums of Punjab.

Introduction: Developing countries are characterised by high birth rates and explosive population growth. With a lower contraceptive usage rate among eligible couples and resistance towards family planning methods, the goal of population stabilisation looks distant. The present study was conceived to assess knowledge, attitude and practices regarding contraceptive usage and to identify the barriers in reproductive-age couples in an urban slum area.

Role of Preoperative Skin Stretching in Single-Stage Wound Closure.

 Mechanical skin stretching (SS) is now becoming one of the commonly sought after procedures for wound healing. This study was aimed to assess the efficacy of preoperative SS for the closure of large wounds and to evaluate various postoperative outcome parameters.  An observational study was conducted from December 2017 to May 2019 where a sample size of 30 patients was included with inclusion criteria being wounds of ≥5 cm width that require surgical management, presence of sufficient healthy skin edge of the wound/scar (at least one) for the stretching procedure, and age between 18 and 70 years.

Improving handwashing among parent-attendants visiting a newborn unit practising family participatory care.

In our newborn intensive care unit (NICU), we practise family participatory care, where the unit staff encourage parents and attendants of sick newborns to partner with them and be involved in care for their babies. There remains a concern that this practice may increase the risk of nosocomial infections being carried into the unit by parent-attendants. Staff observed that handwashing behaviours were suboptimal and inconsistent among parent-attendants.

VASOplegia is Predicted by Preoperative Platelet-LEucocyte conGlomerate Indices in Cardiac Surgery (VASOPLEGICS): A retrospective single-center study.

Background: Post-cardiotomy vasoplegia syndrome (VS) is often linked to an exaggerated inflammatory response to cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). At the same time, the prognostic role of platelet-leucocyte indices (PLIs) and leucocyte indices (LIs), (platelet-lymphocyte ratio [PLR], systemic immune-inflammation index [SII = platelet × neutrophil/lymphocyte], aggregate index of systemic inflammation [AISI = platelet × monocyte × neutrophil/lymphocyte], and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio [NLR], systemic inflammation response index [SIRI = monocyte × neutrophil/lymphocyte), respectively] has been recently described in diverse inflammatory settings.

Methods: The retrospective study was conducted to evaluate the VS predictive performance of PLIs and LIs in 1,045 adult patients undergoing elective cardiac surgery at a tertiary care center.

Introduction: In India, a national program for stroke (national programme for the control of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, and stroke) and stroke management guidelines exist. Its successful implementation would need an organized system of stroke care in practice. However, many challenges exist including lack of awareness, prehospital notification systems, stroke ready hospitals, infrastructural weaknesses, and rehabilitation.

The role of 12-lead electrocardiogram in the risk stratification of non-ST elevation acute coronary syndrome and the correlation with coronary angiography - The CINCHONa study - A prospective cohort study in Northern India.

Background: Clinical guidelines recommend risk stratification of non-ST elevation acute coronary syndrome (NST-ACS) using the GRACE risk score. However, the GRACE risk score is not followed widely in clinical practice due to various reasons. Our primary objectives of this study were to correlate the presenting electrocardiogram (ECG) of NST-ACS with coronary angiography (CAG) findings and to identify specific ECG changes that are suggestive of severe coronary artery disease (CAD) thus helping to triage all patients with NST-ACS.

Adjuvant therapy in neonatal sepsis to prevent mortality - A systematic review and network meta-analysis.

Background: Despite appropriate antibiotic therapy, the risk of mortality in neonatal sepsis still remains high. We conducted a systematic review to comprehensively evaluate different adjuvant therapies in neonatal sepsis in a network meta-analysis.

Methods: We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and quasi-RCTs that evaluated adjuvant therapies in neonatal sepsis.

Gastrosplenic Fistula: a Systematic Review.

Gastrosplenic fistula is an unusual complication of benign as well as malignant gastric and splenic pathologies. This pathology acquires an important clinical significance due to its rare association with life-threatening upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage. The aim of this article is to review the English-language literature in order to gain a better understanding of etiological factors, diagnostic evaluation, and management of gastrosplenic fistula.

Radiological review of rhinocerebral mucormycosis cases during the COVID-19 Pandemic: A single-center experience.

Mucormycosis is caused by the fungi belonging to the order and class The incidence of mucormycosis has increased with the onset of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infections leading to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. This rise is attributed to the use of immunosuppressive medication to treat COVID-19 infections. Authors have retrospectively collected data of our cases of mucormycosis diagnosed from April 2020 to April 2021 at our institute.

Kimura's disease: A short study of cytomorphologic features with its differential diagnosis and review of literature.

Kimura's disease (KD) is a chronic inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology, endemic in Asia. The typical clinical manifestations include a triad of painless unilateral cervical lymphadenopathy or subcutaneous masses predominantly in the head-and-neck region, blood and tissue eosinophilia, and elevated serum immunoglobulin (Ig) E levels. Many conditions including benign and malignant may mimic KD clinically.

Disability in Patients With Bipolar Disorder in Full or Partial Remission: A Cross-Sectional Study.

To evaluate the level of disability and identify an association between sociodemographic and clinical variables and disability in patients with bipolar disorder (BD). Comparing the Indian Autism Screening Questionnaire (IASQ) and the Indian Scale for Assessment of Autism (ISAA) with the Childhood Autism Rating Scale-Second Edition (CARS2) in Indian settings.

Unlabelled: The Indian Autism Screening Questionnaire (IASQ), derived from the Indian Scale for Assessment of Autism ISAA (the mandated tool for autism in India), is an autism screening instrument for use in the general population by minimally trained workers. While ISAA has 40 items with four anchor points, the IASQ is a 10-item questionnaire with yes/no answers. It was initially validated using the ISAA.
