Background: Recalcitrant dermatophyte infections are being reported from various parts of the world due to varied causes including strain variation, steroid misuse, SQLE mutations, and variable quality of itraconazole pellet formulations. The oral drug preferred in endemic areas is itraconazole, to which MIC levels remain low, and clinical failures to itraconazole reported defy a sound scientific explanation.

Objectives: The objective of the study was to conduct a proteomic and genomic analysis on isolates from therapeutically recalcitrant case with isolation of gene mutations and enzymatic abnormalities to explain azole failures.

Paediatric solid tumours account for about 30% of all the paediatric malignancies. They differ from adult tumours in various aspects like incidence, etiopathogenesis, biology, response rate and outcome. Immunohistochemical markers such as CD133, CD44, CD24, CD90, CD34, CD117, CD20 and ALDH 1 (aldehyde dehydrogenase-1) have been proposed to detect cancer stem cells in tumours.

The Liliequist membrane is a radiologically neglected structure, with routine evaluation only carried out in pre-operative and post-operative cases of third ventriculostomy. We report two cases of Chiari III malformation in two unrelated females with similar findings on magnetic resonance imaging study including occipital and low cervical encephalocele, hydrocephalus, and segmentation anomalies in cervical spine. Along with these findings, we report a flow void on T2-weighted images observed in both cases across the site of Liliequist membrane between interpeduncular and chiasmatic cistern.

Indian J Crit Care Med

February 2023

Department of Medicine, Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) Medical College, Pune, Maharashtra, India.

Background: Recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA) has revolutionized the management of acute ischemic stroke. Shorter door-to-imaging and door-to-needle (DTN) times are crucial for improving the outcomes in thrombolysed patients. Our observational study evaluated the door-to-imaging time (DIT) and DTN times for all thrombolysed patients.

Early Osteoarthritis Questionnaire (EOAQ): a tool to assess knee osteoarthritis at initial stage.

Ther Adv Musculoskelet Dis

February 2023

Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, 'Policlinico Tor Vergata' Foundation, Rome, Italy.

Background: Early stage of osteoarthritis (OA) is characterized by joint stiffness and pain as well as by subclinical structural changes that may affect cartilage, synovium, and bone. At the moment, the lack of a validated definition of early osteoarthritis (EOA) does not allow to make an early diagnosis and adopt a therapeutic strategy to slow disease progression. Also, no questionnaires are available to evaluate the early stage, and therefore this remains an unmet need.

Introduction: Suction cannula (SC) is an important instrument for a neurosurgeon. Currently used suction control valves, kept in the sterile field, are controlled by the surgeon, for which he needs to leave the surgical dissection or by assistant or by operation room personnel to adjust the pressure of the equipment (suction machine or central suction), which lies in the unsterile field. Authors studied relationships of the different diameters of SC and the thumb hole (TH) of the SC and present their findings.

Introduction: Post-operative seroma formation is one of the most common complications following modified radical mastectomy (MRM). Quilting is a technique where the mastectomy flaps are sutured to the underlying chest wall muscles with sutures, obliterating the dead space. The authors hypothesised that post-mastectomy dead space obliteration by intermittent mastectomy flap fixation leads to decreased drain output and seroma formation.

Aim: The 2015 recommendation of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation of no routine tracheal suctioning in non-vigorous neonates born through meconium-stained amniotic fluid (MSAF) was based on very low certainty of evidence (CoE) necessitating ongoing monitoring. The aim of this systematic review was to perform a meta-analysis of observational studies comparing the effect of implementing immediate resuscitation without routine tracheal suctioning versus with routine suctioning in neonates born through MSAF.

Methods: MEDLINE, Embase, CENTRAL, and Web of Science were searched.
