Background & Objectives: Uncorrected refractive error and cataract are the two most common causes of impairment of vision among elderly persons, and both are treatable. Treatment-seeking in patients is driven by symptom (decreased vision) rather than any anatomical or physiological measurement. The objective of this study was to evaluate the treatment-seeking behavior and barriers to treatment-seeking among elderly persons with impairment of vision in an urban resettlement colony of New Delhi, India.

Background: To highlight the clinical presentations and management outcomes of rhino-orbital mucormycosis during first wave of COVID-19 pandemic in North India.
Methods: A retrospective observational study. 15 patients with mucormycosis (orbital disease) who presented during short span of 3 months (October-December 2020) in a tertiary-care referral institution were analysed.

Objective: The objective of this study is to study the impact of temporary legislation implemented during Diwali on ocular firecracker injuries in Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) region.
Materials And Methods: In this retrospective study, records of the patients presenting with ocular firecracker injury during 10 days of Diwali (prediwali, Diwali and 8 days postdiwali) from 2014 to 2019 were retreived from the medical record section. Clinico-demographic profile, relevant history pertaining to the use of firecracker, and details of eye examination, namely presenting visual acuity (VA), laterality and classification of injury based on Birmingham Eye Trauma Terminology System were noted.

Aim: Levels of Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), a proangiogenic growth factor is elevated and dopamine downregulated in proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). This study aims to investigate whether IGF-1 with dopamine can together modulate vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) to prevent proliferative diabetic retinopathy while also attenuating angiogenic effects of IGF-1.
Methods: Effect of combination of levodopa L-Dopa with IGF-1 was tested on normal retinal pigment epithelium cells (ARPE-19) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC), followed by tube formation.

Background: In this trial, we evaluated the safety and efficacy of olanzapine in children receiving highly emetogenic chemotherapy.
Materials And Methods: In this study, patients aged 3 to 18 years were randomly assigned to either the olanzapine group or the placebo group. All patients received intravenous ondansetron and dexamethasone 30 minutes before highly emetogenic chemotherapy, followed by oral ondansetron for 48 hours.

Objective: Early aggressive therapy using biologicals is increasingly being used in JIA for early disease remission. Pulse steroids are used in induction regimes for rheumatic disorders such as SLE and systemic JIA; however, no controlled studies have demonstrated their use in non-systemic JIA. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of pulse dexamethasone therapy in children with treatment-naïve non-systemic JIA as early aggressive therapy in resource-limited settings.

Mycotic keratitis is common in warm, humid regions with a varying profile of pathogenic fungi according to geographical origin, socioeconomic status, and climatic condition. Clinical diagnosis can be challenging in difficult cases and those refractory to treatment. Fungal hyphae on microscopic examination and culture isolation have been the gold standard in the laboratory diagnosis of fungal keratitis.

The role of inflammation in diabetic retinopathy (DR) is well-established and dysregulation of a large number of inflammatory mediators is known. These include cytokines, chemokines, growth factors, mediators of proteogenesis, and pro-apoptotic molecules. This para-inflammation as a response is not directed to a particular pathogen or antigen but is rather directed toward the by-products of the diabetic milieu.

In early (EB) and late blind (LB) children, vision deprivation produces cross-modal plasticity in the visual cortex. The progression of structural- and tract-based spatial statistics changes in the visual cortex in EB and LB, as well as their impact on global cognition, have yet to be investigated. The purpose of this study was to determine the cortical thickness (CT), gyrification index (GI), and white matter (WM) integrity in EB and LB children, as well as their association to the duration of blindness and education.

RUNX1T1 has been found to be mutated in different cancers such as prostate, lung, colon, and breast cancer. A recent computational study involving the TCGA database of glioma patients found RUNX1T1 as one of the downregulated driver genes associated with poor overall survival of glioma patients. Hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF1α) is upregulated in glioma and has been associated with the severity and drug resistance of glioma.

Background And Aims: Accurate measurement of intraocular pressure (IOP) under anaesthesia is essential for diagnosis and further management of pediatric glaucoma patients. However, depth of anaesthesia and use of airway device like laryngeal mask airway (LMA) or endotracheal tube can influence IOP values measured. We planned this study to compare change of IOP with facemask or LMA.

There have been major changes in our understanding of choroidal diseases in the last decade owing to multiple retinal and choroidal imaging related advances. A major conceptual pivot is establishment of pachychoroid and its spectrum of clinical disorders: pachychoroid pigment epitheliopathy, central serous chorioretinopathy, pachychoroid neovasculopathy, polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy/aneurysmal type 1 neovascularization, peripapillary pachychoroid syndrome, and focal choroidal excavation. However, considerable overlaps in manifestations and therapeutics of these disorders make differentiation amongst them difficult.

Functional network changes associated with Braille reading are different in early blind (EB) and late blind (LB) participants. The objectives were to study the functional connectivity (of memory and language areas based on blood oxygen level-dependent [BOLD] mapping) and structural changes in EB and LB children and adolescents. A total of 110 participants (all right-handed) were recruited in two age groups of 6-12 years (children) and 13-19 years (adolescents) consisting of EB (n = 20), LB (n = 20), and sighted controls (SC, n = 15) in each group.

Purpose: To examine the association between near work, screen time including TV and outdoor time with myopia in children from the Sunflower Myopia Asian Eye Epidemiology Consortium (AEEC).
Methods: We analysed AEEC cross-sectional data (12 241 children) on risk factors (near work, screen time including TV and outdoor time) and myopia of six population-based studies (China, Hong Kong and Singapore). Cycloplegic refraction and axial length (AL) measurements were included.
