Corona virus disease (COVID-19) initially appeared to be an exclusively respiratory ailment. While that is true in a vast majority of the cases, its evolution and later evidence have shown that it can afflict virtually any organ system in the human body after first gaining entry through the respiratory tract. The COVID-19 vaccines were one of the turning points in the campaign to control the COVID-19 pandemic.

Introduction: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused significant global disruption, especially for chronic care like hemodialysis treatments. Approximately 10,000 end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) patients are receiving maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) at 174 dialysis centers in Greater Mumbai. Because of the fear of transmission of infection and inability to isolate patients in dialysis centers, chronic hemodialysis care was disrupted for COVID-19-infected patients.

Background: The Eclipse® (Eclipse® is a trademark of Arthrex, Naples, Florida) stemless shoulder prosthesis offers the surgeon the advantage of bone stock preservation and at the same time avoids the drawbacks of a resurfacing arthroplasty. Previous studies have shown radiographic changes on serial follow up of the Eclipse prosthesis. This study attempts to assess the significance of these radiographic changes and effect of cuff related pathology on the mid-term outcome of the Eclipse prosthesis.

Background: The management of irreparable posterosuperior rotator cuff tears (IPSRCTs) in young active individuals is still a challenge. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of sex, surgical technique, previous surgical procedures, tear genesis, and presence of a preoperative external rotation lag sign on the functional outcome after latissimus dorsi transfer (LDT) for IPSRCTs.
Methods: Retrospectively, all patients with IPSRCTs treated with LDT during a 10-year period were followed up.

Background & Objectives: Next generation transplantation medicine aims to develop stimulating cocktail for increased ex vivo expansion of primitive hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPC). The present study was done to evaluate the cocktail GF (Thrombopoietin + Stem Cell factor + Flt3-ligand) and homing-defining molecule Stromal cell-derived factor 1 (SDF1) for HSPC ex vivo expansion.
Methods: Peripheral blood stem cell (n=74) harvests were analysed for CD34hiCD45lo HSPC.

Background: To evaluate the midterm clinical outcome, functional outcome, associated complications, and survivorship of high-flexion posterior-stabilized rotating-platform total knee arthroplasty.
Methods: We prospectively analyzed 701 knees in 501 patients, who underwent total knee arthroplasty using high-flexion posterior-stabilized rotating-platform prosthesis. Patients were assessed preoperatively and postoperatively for their ability to kneel, do full squats, do half squats, and sit cross-legged by using a patient-administered questionnaire.

Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures currently performed by plastic surgeons around the world. It must be clear at the outset that liposuction is not primarily a modality for weight loss, it is meant to be a body contouring procedure and therefore the inherent limitations and safety issues related to this must always be respected if complications and unfavourable results are to be avoided as far as possible.

The phenomenon of tissue expansion is observed in nature all the time. The same properties of the human skin to stretch and expand and yield extra skin if placed under continuous stress over a prolonged period of time has been utilised for reconstructive purposes with the help of a silicon balloon inserted under the skin and progressively filled with saline. The technique of tissue expansion is now more than three decades old and has been a value addition to our armamentarium in reconstructive surgery in all parts of the body.

Background: An important source of debate in many orthopaedic practices is the choice of performing simultaneous or staged bilateral total knee arthroplasty.
Questions/purpose: The objective of this meta-analysis is to compare simultaneous bilateral with staged bilateral total knee arthroplasty for peri-operative complication rates, infection rates and mortality outcomes.
Methods: All relevant citations were retrieved from MEDLINE, EMBASE, COCHRANE databases and the unpublished literature.

High-flexion knee prosthesis was introduced with the aim of obtaining higher degree of flexion and good survivorship in patients with high functional demands or those requiring squatting, kneeling, etc., which is more common in Asians. Based on all the research and experience with this prosthesis, it was concluded that high flexion designs meet the need of deeper degrees of flexion in selected sets of patients only.

The use of tranexamic acid (TA) in total knee arthroplasty is well documented. However, there is limited evidence to suggest the use of TA in simultaneous bilateral computer assisted total knee arthroplasty (CATKA). We, therefore, studied the effect of TA, in simultaneous bilateral computer assisted total knee arthroplasty, in terms of blood transfusion, routes of administration and complications.

Introduction: Osteopoikilosis or osteopathia condensans disseminata is a rare hereditary autosomal dominant sclerosing bone dysplasia. Patients are usually asymptomatic and the diagnosis is usually made incidentally on radiographs which show presence of symmetric, multiple, well defined, small ovoid areas of increased radiodensity clustered in peri-articular osseous regions with propensity for epiphyseal and metaphyseal involvement. There are no increased risks of pathological fracture in a case of osteopoikilosis and traumatic fracture healing in a case of osteopoikilosis is similar to fracture occurring in other normal patients.

Although there is general consensus about the efficacy of total hip replacement (THR) in young patients, the most appropriate bearings in young patients remain highly debated. The three most popular bearings in use include metal-on-polyethylene (MOP), metal-on-metal (MOM) and ceramic-on-ceramic (COC). We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of literature to summarise the best available evidence on relative success of the three most popular bearings used in THR in young active patients.
